Chapter III. Truth Or Dare

"I could do something worse, like dare you to kiss me."

Betty didn't know where they were going. From the looks of it this place was not visited by many people, but Betty was not surprised. It did look like a place where a bad boy would hang out. The amount of crumbling bricks on the ground made her cautious. Betty stepped on the sandy ground and almost slipped.

"Careful," Jughead lifted his hand up for her to take it.

Rejecting it Betty smiled proudly, "I am perfectly fine."

"Whatever you say," he smirked watching her struggle through the piles of dirt and sand.

Jughead took her to the old cinema drive in, the only place in Riverdale that only animals dared visit, aside from the occasional Serpents gang. It was going to be brought down soon by the Andrews company to replace it with something else, perhaps a small town shopping center. Betty could clearly see that the place meant something to Jughead, but he tried very hard to conceal it. They got to the stage area where there would be movies on the big screen at night and couples from every corner of the town would come to steal kisses from each other and watch some old movies.

"I don't think I've ever been here," Betty looked around at the abandoned place.

Jughead looked at her, "seriously? Are your parents insane!? This is a classic place to take your kids to!"

"Or take a girl on a date night if you're a horny teenager," Betty sighed, "anything potentially dangerous my mother stays away from."

"Why are you so negative about love, isn't that my job? You're the perfect Betty Cooper, I thought you'd be a huge romantic." Jughead took a white covering off a red car that stood in the middle of the cinema parking lot.

Betty looked at him, "I'm not negative about love! I'm just kind of done with it."

"Oh poor Betty always has been in love with a boy who didn't give a single crap about her," he got mad for some reason.

"No one asked for your opinion!" Betty raised her voice, she didn't want to talk about her apparent love for Archie.

Jughead shook his head, "fine, I'll shut up, get in." He opened the car door and held it for her. She was skeptical, but got in after a few seconds of staring at him.

"What are we doing here?" Betty asked as she watched him cross over to the other side and get into the drivers seat.

Jughead smirked, "we're going to play truth or dare." Oh great, Betty thought, a game that her mother would never permit her to play with anyone let alone a boy with tattoos and a bad attitude.

Mrs. Cooper was worried. It was already 4 o'clock and Betty was still not home. School ended at 3 and Mrs. Cooper calculated exactly how much time it would take for Betty to talk to the coach and get on the bus. As her husband walked through the door she rushed to his side.

"She's gone. Betty is late. We need to call the police," taking her phone from her pocket she proceeded to unlock it.

Grabbing his wife by the hands Mr. Cooper laughed out, "honey relax, she's just a little bit late. Betty is a good girl and she will come back home as soon as she can. You know that. We raised her that way." Mr. Cooper was a bit worried himself, he didn't want anything bad to happen to his perfect little girl.

Hal Cooper was the co-owner of the Andrews company that was involved in building new places in their small town. He was usually in charge of the financials while Mr. Andrews was doing the labor part of the work. Hal decided to change his direction and ran for Mayor, Mr. Andrews supported his decision all the way. The Andrews and Coopers have been close ever since their high school years. Their children were destined to be together even before they were born. The Coopers were planning to make Betty marry Archie when the time came to it, and the Andrews seemed on board with it as well. Nothing was going to change their minds.

Alice Cooper was in charge of the family and her daughter's life. It meant that Betty didn't talk much to any other boys aside from Archie. Even Betty herself wondered if she liked him because of him or because she was expected to like him.

"What if she's seeing another boy Hal! What if she ran off with him?" Her mother was testing every theory, "or what if she got kidnapped again!?"

Hal smiled, "Alice, you know that Betty barely talks to anyone, her social media is limited and we check her facebook every day for any new friends. And about the kidnapping, let us never talk about it again."

"I will check her room, maybe she left some evidence of where she might be!" Alice rushed up the stairs into Betty's room. Perhaps she was too controlling, but she didn't want anything to ruin Betty's life.

Taking out every single notebook that belonged to her daughter, Alice ran her eyes through the notes. Nothing but history notes and English notes were found. Putting the notebooks down Alice looked at herself in the mirror. How did she become so worried about every single little thing? Nodding her head she went back downstairs to rejoin her husband who was already watching a football game on the TV.

"You're right. She's probably doing something important, it's going to be alright," Alice went to the kitchen and started packing up the dinner plates since she refused to have dinner without her daughter.

Betty laughed, now she knew an embarrassing story about Jughead Jones, the schools most hated boy. He wasn't bad at all, in fact he was quite entertaining. Betty felt like she could talk about anything with him and it didn't have to involve his or her family status in any way. And to think she had only known him for a couple of hours.

He waited for her to stop laughing at his story of when he fell down from a swing when he was five. Feeling guilty for laughing at such a tragic story Betty bit her lip.

"I'm sorry, it just sounds very funny and I keep imagining you and your grumpy little face-" she started laughing again. It was like Betty was his oldest friend, that's how easy it was for him to get along with her.

Jughead shook his head and smiled, "come on, I'll walk you home."

They both got out of the car and Betty noticed that it was dark outside. She heard the howl of a few local dogs and jumped closer to Jughead. She subconsciously grabbed his hand and pulled at his arm. Amused by her behavior he looked at her. Realizing that he was conscious of her holding his hand, she let go.

"Afraid of dogs?" Jughead asked.

Betty straightened her pink skirt, "no I'm just startled by them."

"Oh, alright then," Jughead turned around, but then quickly turned back, "boo!"

Betty jumped and slapped his arm, "stop it!"

They were almost out of the cinema parking lot and Jughead continued to play truth or dare with her. She dared him to jump off an unstable looking piece of wood that was hanging by its last piece of bark onto a tree. After finishing his dare with success Jughead did a little happy dance, as if his dare wasn't even that hard.

"So you have a hopeless crush on Archie Andrews right?" He asked, fiddling around in his pocket trying to grab onto something, but finding nothing, he tried to cover his disinterest too much.

Betty sighed, "yeah."

"Okay, I dare you to tell him!" Jughead smiled mischievously.

Shaking her head in refusal and fear Betty stuttered, "n-no! I couldn't. Besides he doesn't like me and it's obvious. I have already done so much to show him how I feel."

Jughead half smiled seeing how worried she was, "relax. I could do something worse, like dare you to kiss me."

Betty knew that the first step to change was to drop her good girl ways. What better opportunity was there than to kiss a bad boy. Looking at him for a moment her eyes flicked to his red lips and she found herself pulling his face closer to hers and kissing his lips. They were soft, though she expected them to be rough. Not even thinking how this was her first kiss ever, Betty let Jughead go and looked into his eyes. It didn't mean anything, she felt partially guilty in using him as her tool to explore a more dangerous side of her. Or at least that was what she desperately repeated in her head over and over again. How could she kiss someone she barely knows. Her mother would be disappointed.

A small smile started to form from his lips and grew bigger until his dimples started to show. Those tiny imperfections of the human body were the most attractive part of his features to her. Catching herself thinking that Betty quickly retraced her steps.

He was silent, although he did kiss her back, to him it was more of an instinctual thing. Jughead didn't know why she took a sudden interest in him, he hoped that it wasn't some sick joke that his classmates were playing on him. If it were another girl, he wouldn't be so kind or even let her kiss him, but this was Betty Cooper.

Betty didn't know how to respond, her cheeks were hot and red, "I need to go! I'm really sorry." She skipped down the pathway to her house and prayed to God that her mother will not ask where she was. Perhaps Jughead wouldn't think much of it, he shouldn't, he's a bad boy. Betty hated to be the one to stereotype, but bad boys pretend like they have no feelings and she was going to rely on that aspect of him.
