Chapter 22: The Duelists Collide

Addie- Hidden lightning in Sight

Nothing eventful. Other than Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet, we haven't teamed up with anyone we know. Maybe I should have asked Alhaitham and Maya. Maybe I should have asked Chloe. Maybe I should have asked Clorinde...maybe she wouldn't have died If I just...asked her. I still remember the day I met her.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Running. Running. Running. Trip.

I trip over a crack as I crash into the concrete of the sidewalk, my face wet with the falling rain. I look up to see a cloaked figure looking down at me.

"Oh...you poor thing." The lady said. "Here...let me help you stand."

The kind lady helped me to my feet and introduced herself as Petronilla. She walked me back to where she lives and that's when I met Clorinde. Her dark purple hair covering her face as she stares into the fire.

"Clorinde dear...I've brought someone home." Petronilla says as she motions to me. "Why don't you come and say hello."

"Hello...." the girl named Clorinde says. "There...I said it."

"Seems as if it's been a long night for the both of you." Petronilla says while smiling. "Why don't you two get some rest....you might feel better in the morning."

Me and Clorinde walk upstairs and go into our own separate rooms.

"Well...goodnight then...um....what was your name again?" Clorinde asks me, the tone in her voice indicating shyness.

I smile.

"My name is Addie."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clang! Or swords clash as we fight for training.

"Come on...come on..." I mutter as me and Clorinde continue to fight with the fake swords.

We use fencing swords and gear to train so that me and Clorinde don't end up accidentally killing each other.

Finally after what feels like an eternity, probably the archon of eternity's doing, I finally win the battle.

"Yes!" I scream in victory while Clorinde sits on the floor, her eyes closed in defeat.

"I have to admit you are a worthy opponent, Addie." She says with a smile on her face.

"Thanks!" I told her. "You're a worthy opponent too!"

Over the years, me and Clorinde got to know each other pretty well and we even became really good friends. Petronilla helped train us to become excellent duelists. Today was the day that we were going to test and see who would become the champion duelist of fontaine.

"Are you guys ready?" Petronilla asks us as we are getting ready for the duel.

"Ready as always!" I chirp.

"Don't be too overconfident," Clorinde says. "You never know how the tides can turn."

"Just you wait." I told her.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"And now!" The announcer says. "Please welcome our finalists, Clorinde and Addie to the stage!"

Me and Clorinde take our places on the stage, waving to the crowd as we get on.

"Well, well, well." says Clorinde while smirking. "I guess we did make it to the finals after all.

"You're just too good, you know." I told her.

"Well then, let this battle begin."

The battle was brutal and bloody. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention we had to use real swords in this battle? Yeah...probably should have said that.

The battle lasted for 10 minutes, and eventually Clorinde was so wounded that she couldn't fight any longer. That win made me the champion duelist of Fontaine.

I look at Clorinde and extend my hand out to her to help her up. She just bats my hand away and stands up on her own, a look of anger in her eyes.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here I am, two years after that battle, still the champion duelist of Fontaine. Still winning every duel that the court has. One day however, changed everything.
I was in the opera house court after a trial happened, no duels had happened today. Clorinde, me, and Chief Iudex, Neuvillette, were the only ones left in the opera house.

Clorinde, at this time, was fed up with how many duels I had won. So she got up, went on to the stage, and stood in front of me before saying.

"I challenge you to a duel Addie, to become the new champion duelist of Fontaine."

Okay, I had to admit, I didn't see that coming.

"Very well then." I told her. "Let the duel commence."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We took our positions  a few moments later, waiting for Neuvillette to signal for us to begin.

"I'm telling you now that you don't wanna do this." I told Clorinde.
"Oh, but I do." She says coldly before drawing her sword.

"You may begin when you wish." Neuvillette says.

At that moment Clorinde lunges at me but I manage to dodge her and scrape her arm with my sword. Then she raises her sword and uses her vision to injure me.

"It's over Addie." She says.

I sit there on the floor, bleeding from the back of my head and a deep gash runs across my right arm. Then I see a book lying on the floor nearby and I pick it up out of curiosity. All of a sudden, the gash in my arm started to disappear and the bleeding in my head stopped.

At that moment lightning surrounded me.

"I'm sorry." I told her.

I raise my arms and a bird made of lightning. As soon as it hits Clorinde, it makes a bright light which makes me cover my eyes.

When I opened my eyes, I saw Clorinde on the floor, her face filled with anger.

"Clorinde I-" I start to say but she cuts me off.

"Forget it." She says while standing up. "You can stay alive, and keep that stupid title of yours."

Then she gets up and leaves. I don't try to stop her as she opens the door and exits the Opera Epiclese.

"It appears we have a winner." Neuvillette says.

I sigh.

"I have to go." I tell him as I leave the Opera Epiclepse.

It's raining outside when I get out there. I walk home in the rain and then I hear a voice.

"Addie?"

I turn around pointing my sword at the figure.

"Stay back!" I told him. "Put your hands up, remove your hood!"

"I see you're still like this huh." The guy removes his hood and it ends up being...Kaveh?

"Kaveh..." I say while sighing. What are you doing here?"

"Well I was in Fontaine and when Ame heard I was going, she told me to tell you that there's a sleepover party on new years eve at her house."

"New.....Years.....Eve?" I ask.

"Yeah...Ame thought that maybe we should have a sleepover." Kaveh replies. "It's been a while since we have had one of those."

"Well." I sigh. "Tell her that I'll be there."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finally it's December 31st. Today is the sleepover party at Ame's house. Chloe, Maya, Alhaitham, and Kaveh will also be there. A few days ago, I took a break from being a champion duelist and now Clorinde is the champion duelist of Fontaine. Just like it should have been.

I arrive at Ame's house and knock on the door. Almost instantly, I hear a big thump on the other side of the door before Maya opens the door.

"Addie!" Maya screams, throwing her arms around her friend.

"Nice to see you too." I say while laughing.

I can already tell that this will be a fun sleepover party. Finally something that will take my mind off of everything. Off of the duel,

Mainly off of Clorinde.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Addie?" A voice interrupts me from my thoughts.

"Oh Navia." I say

"You spaced out...are you alright?" Navia asks.

"I'm fine..." I say. "Just thinking about the day I met Clorinde."

"Addie! Navia! Guys!" Freminet shouts at us, much to my surprise. "We're being attacked!
