Alhaitham-Admonishing Instruction

I love my life. The weather in Sumeru has been so nice lately. Perfect weather for reading outside. I would have loved to be sitting under a tree reading right now, but my best friend, Maya, told me to get a breath of fresh air in a form that's not reading. So that's what I'm doing right now.

My name is Alhaitham. I am the current acting grand sage of the sumeru academia.

I have to admit taking a walk with Maya in beautiful weather is always lovely, especially since the trees are starting to turn into their fall colors.

"You ok?" Maya asked me, interrupting my thought.

"Hm? Oh yeah, I'm fine, just enjoying the scenery" I replied.

We walked for quite a while, chatting comfortably until Itto came from behind a tree, running straight towards us.

"Ah! Itto, what's the matter!!??" Maya asked worriedly.

Typical Maya.

"Phew. I know this is sudden but you guys are gonna be in the hunger games whether you like it or not, the prize is one million mora." Itto said.

Did I just hear that right? One. Million. Mora. I've studied the hunger games in the Academia. It's a brutal game of killing until there's only one left. Me and Maya exchange a glance as if we were thinking the same thing. Only one person will remain standing. Which means....

Without thinking, I give Maya a super tight hug. To my surprise, she hugs me back. Then she asks something unexpected

"Until the end, you wanna make an alliance?"

I'm quite surprised she asks this, but knowing that one or both of us will end up dying, I say yes. It'll be my last chance to be with her before that happens.

"I'll see you in a few days right?" Maya asks.

"Of course, see you in a few days, " I replied.

We parted ways for now. The next time we meet, we'll both be struggling to survive. But at least we'll be doing it together. I walk away and now all that's in my mind are the words only one person will remain standing.
