Lyney- Spectacle of Phantasmagoria

Isn't this just lovely? The stars look very beautiful tonight. I'm sitting on my own outside, not too far away from the camp, watching the stars. I see different constellations forming in the sky. Lapis Dei, Vultur Volans, Carassius Auratus, Princeps Cretaceus, Felis Alba, and lots more.

A few moments later, I'm joined by Addie.

"Hey." She said as she sat beside me.

"Hey." I whispered back. "What are you doing here?"

"Just looking at the stars...I...really like space."

"Oh."

We just sit there, watching the stars, listening to the sound of the wind against the trees. I watch how the moonlight is perfectly framing Addie's face. Agh...not this...not again. I don't know what's wrong with me. Why am I so in love with her in the first place.

"Is there any reason that you're here?" Addie eventually asks me. "You've been out here for a while."

"No...there's no reason I'm out here."

That was a lie. Plain and simple. I was out here, looking at the stars, but I'm also out here wondering what I'm gonna do. About the hunger games, about Addie, about my siblings.

"That's a lie." Addie says, breaking my thoughts. "So I'll ask again, why are you here?"

"Addie, the moon is so beautiful tonight isn't it?"

Addie turns to look at me.

"Wh-what did you just say?"

"I said the moon is so beautiful tonight, isn't it?"

Addie's face goes pale.

"Lyney I..." Addie trails off mid sentence.

For a while we just sat there, nothing to be said between us.

"I'm sorry Lyney...I can't...I'm sorry...I hope you can understand."

"I do...I do understand..."

That's it then. I guess I have my answer. It's a no.

The answer to my confession, to the thing I've been wanting to say to her for years.

Is no.

Eventually we fall asleep. And we spent the night under the stars.
