81 ~ January

"Alright!" Becky exclaims, holding up her glass of champagne. "Cheers!" She squeals and we all follow suit, grabbing our glasses and holding them up, clinking them together in the middle.

"You have no idea how much I needed a night out with you girls!" I exclaim, moaning slightly after I take a drink, placing my glass back down on the table.

"Still having trouble at work?" Zara asks, raising the glass to her lips.

"Yep." I confirm, pulling a face at her.

"You gotta leave that place S!" Elena exclaims.

"I know." I mutter, "Just got to figure out what I want to do with the rest of my life first."

"You'll manage it." Zara grins, reaching over and squeezing my hand, "I'm sure of it." She finishes and I grin, squeezing her hand in return.

"Thanks Za!" I smile.

"How's Missy?" Becky asks Zara, grinning as she leans forward on the table. The cocktail bar is filled to the brim with people tonight, everyone desperate to find a cure for those late January blues. It sure is working for me, having my girls back with me after a stressful few weeks at work.

"She's good." Zara replies, smiling slightly at the thought of her girlfriend, "Went to visit her parents this weekend."

"I wondered why she wasn't here tonight." Becky groans, pouting as she leans her hands on the table.

"Only because she can drink as much as you!" Elena scoffs, chuckling.

"That's true." Becky smirks, "She really is gifted. You have to keep her."

"Keep her?" Zara laughs and I shake my head in amusement at Becky's terminology. She seems to think that all a relationship means is that you're trapped, someone's property for the rest of your life.

"Are you seeing anyone Becky?" Elena asks before taking a gulp out of her glass.

"Of course." Becky retorts, "Every three nights I see a new guy." She shrugs.

"Of course." Zara giggles.

"It's always good that you can rely on Becky to not change." Elena chuckles.

"I'm happy the way I am!" Becky shrugs, grinning.

"One day you'll meet someone!" Zara teases, laughing as Becky picks up her glass and finishes the drink.

"Hell no!" Becky objects.

"What about you Elena?" I ask, "Seeing anyone?"

"No." She grimaces. "Sadly Tinder did not help." She continues, "In fact, I saw Pete on there."

"Pete from college?" I exclaim, a slight smirk on my lips.

"Yep." She nods, "He has a baby now."

"He does?"

"Apparently it's the main reason girls should date him. According to his profile." She announces, giggling slightly.

"Wow!" Becky smirks.

"What about you Sav?" Zara asks, "What's the lowdown? Still with Oliver?"

"Umm..."

"They had a misunderstanding." Becky interrupts, smirking and I shoot her a death glare.

"Oh?" Zara asks.

"It just didn't work out." I mutter. "He... wasn't compatible in the bedroom."

"I'll say." Becky snorts, nearly choking on her cocktail as she laughs.

"Wow." Elena exclaims, wide eyed. "So you guys...?"

"No!" I shake my head, "We never got that far."

"Well, now you've got to explain." Zara chuckles, "You can't just leave us with 'not compatible'."

"Tell them." Becky stutters out, already in slight hysterics. Just great.

"I..." I trail off. Come on Savannah, these are your girls! They'll be understanding. "I said someone else's name when we were about to... you know."

"Oh S!" Elena squeals, covering her face with her hands.

"That is not the way to a man's bed!" Zara giggles.

"Tell me about it." I can't help but giggle along with them, "He pretty much ran out of our apartment."

"I'm intrigued." Elena grins, sitting forward, "Who's name?"

"Oh I don't know..."

"Really?" Becky cuts me off and I roll my eyes, picking up my glass and downing the rest of my champagne.

"Brett." I announce, slamming the glass back down. There is silence for all of five seconds as they both look at me wide eyed, Becky chuckling a little.

"Holy shit!" Elena eventually chuckles, Zara following close behind. Grabbing hold of the next drink, because yes, of course I am double parked, it's been a long week, I take a sip before giggling along with my friends.

"Girls it gets worse!" I chuckle, too caught up in the moment now, all secrets erupting out of my mouth to my trustworthy best friends.

"What?" Elena sits forward, her eyes wide in anticipation.

"I slept with Brett."

"Hold up, what?" Elena's eyes nearly fall out of her head.

"The same Brett from high school?" Zara hisses, leaning across the table.

"The same Brett from high school and college." Becky confirms, lifting her glass up in a 'cheers' before taking a drink.

"Yep." I nod, glancing down at my glass.

"When?"

"Over Christmas" I explain, my face flushed with embarrassment. "He was in Alaska too."

"So when I asked if you had a good Christmas and you told me that the fire made everything really hot, you weren't lying!" Elena giggles and I roll my eyes.

"It was... actually in a cabin away from the resort." I add.

"Excuse me!" Becky calls to the bartender behind her, grinning. "Hello! I was wondering if we could please get eight more cocktails for the table?" She asks and he nods before making his way over to the spirits. "Thank you so much!"

"We still have one each?" Zara exclaims, gesturing to the glasses on the table.

"So? This is about to get juicy." Becky smirks, sitting back and grinning at me. I lightly shove her on the shoulder as she laughs. "Come on Sav, what positions did you do?" She asks and I laugh.

"Bec!" Zara squeals and Elena giggles.

This will be fun.

*~*~*

"I'm telling you, Sav is eating way more since we moved in together!" Becky exclaims.

"I don't believe you!" Zara scoffs and I nod my head in agreement.

"Me neither! It's not possible!" Elena giggles.

"I am standing right here!" I retort, letting the door shut behind us as we walk out onto the street, all of us slightly more than tipsy, none of us able to afford any more cocktails. We'll go home and start our own party there.

"How do you not put on weight?" Elena glares at me as we begin to walk down the street towards mine and Becky's apartment.

"I have to run a hell of a lot to keep this figure you know!" I retort, grimacing at the thought. Sadly in the battle between whether I hate exercise as much as I love food, dislike for exercise lost and I find myself attempting to run every few days to keep myself in as good a shape as possible considering the amount of junk food I cram into my body.

"Oh hell no!" Becky suddenly exclaims and I raise my eyebrows at her outburst. What's up with her?

"What?" Elena squeals, glancing around.

"This is almost too good." Becky laughs and points down the road towards the two men heading our way.

"Who is that... Oh!" Zara stops herself as they come into focus, both incredibly attractive, the one on the left running a hand through his brown hair as he spots us, a fitted navy shirt rolled up to display a tattoo that I know runs up and along his shoulder, having only looked over it four weeks before. The one on the right grins as he sees us, almost unrecognizable since high school, a short beard now covering his chin.

"No way!" Ben exclaims, grinning as they stop in front of us.

"Hey!" Zara replies, grinning as I stumble slightly in my heels. Damn Becky for encouraging me to go for these stiletto death traps whilst drinking.

"I never thought we'd run into you girls ever again." Ben continues and I finally force myself to glance up at Brett, his eyes pinned onto me, raking up and down my mini dress clad body. I shiver slightly under his gaze, my alcohol induced brain loving it.

"Never thought we'd see you either!" Becky scoffs, "You look good Ben." She grins, "Brett, you look alright." She shrugs and Brett finally tears his eyes away from me, laughing slightly.

"Always a pleasure Becky." Brett replies, his voice low. "It's good to see you Zara. How was Italy?"

"Oh!" Zara is clearly surprised. "It was amazing thank you! Glad to be home though, it's hard being away from the people you care about for so long."

"I understand." He smiles in return.

"How was Seattle Ben?" I pipe up.

"Great. A lot colder though." He laughs.

"You came back to California?" I ask.

"No." He shakes his head, "I'm only visiting Brett for the week."

"Ah, that's cute." Elena exclaims, smiling slightly.

"Best mates forever us, ay!" Ben lightly nudges Brett's shoulder and Brett smirks, nodding slightly. "You girls want to join us for a drink?"

"Umm..."

"Sorry." I cut Zara off, "We're really tired. I absolutely cannot walk one step further in these stilettos."

"Do you want a ride home? I haven't drunk anything..." Brett offers.

"Oh no!" I exclaim quickly. "That's okay. We're just... gonna walk. Now." I finish. Smooth Savannah.

"Alright then." Becky says, an amused glint in her eye, "Lovely to see you Ben. Brett, I hope our paths never cross again." She smirks before making her way around them.

"Umm... See you soon." I manage to stutter out, tearing my eyes away from them and following after Becky as fast as I possibly can. Wow, could I have embarrassed myself any more?

"Well, that was awkward!" Elena exclaims quietly as we walk away. "Especially seeing as you.. you know..."

"What?" I mutter, turning back to her with furrowed eyebrows.

"You fucked him a month back." Becky fills in and I reach other, shoving her slightly, her tipsy self flying into the brick wall beside her. "Bitch!" She exclaims as I descend into giggles.

*~*~*

"Here we go!" I exclaim, pouring the incredibly strong cocktail that I've just made into the only four glasses I seem to be able to find in our apartment.

"That is poison!" Elena grimaces after taking a sip.

"Are you insulting my cooking?" I retort and Elena nods her head.

"I really am!" She grimaces, "Don't you have any wine?"

"Of course!" Becky grabs hold of the bottle behind her and passes it over to Elena who places the glass of my homemade cocktail down in front of me.

"Sorry!" She exclaims, turning her attention to the wine.

"That's fine!" I retort, picking my own glass up and downing the lot. "That's disgusting!" I squeal out, whacking the glass back down on the side in disgust, my throat still burning.

"I told you!" Elena giggles, lifting the wine bottle to her lips and downing some.

"Please!" I beg, gesturing for the bottle, my tongue on fire. Elena laughs as she passes it over and I immediately gulp it down, attempting to get rid of the taste.

"I like it!" Becky exclaims, sipping the grotesque drink and grinning.

"You're weird!" I mutter, before wiping my lips and passing the wine back to Elena.

"Should we put some music on?" Zara exclaims from the other side of the room.

"Yes!" Becky grins and immediately grabs her phone, linking it to the speakers. Within seconds the music is blaring through the apartment, my drunk friends giggling as they begin dancing. I grin at the sight, remembering how it was in college and high school, every single party we'd end up dancing with each other, screaming along to the classics. They were the best times, before adult life and responsibilities got in the way. I miss it.

I remember how we'd end up with our arms around each other as we laughed, all alone in our bubble, no-one else mattering. It was us girls against the world as we danced the night away, no cares as to how we looked.

Brett would always laugh as he watched us, grabbing my attention with his devilishly seductive deep laugh. I always liked it when I knew he was watching and after we broke up there was always something missing from all those parties. I never saw him after that, as far as I know he did what his parents wanted and moved to New York. He kept playing in the college football team, which I never went to see play ever again.

"Come on Sav!" Zara yells from the living room, tearing me out of my disgrace of a memory lane. I'm here, drunk with my girls, and I can't stop thinking about Brett. What the fuck is wrong with me?

Grimacing, I grab hold of Elena's abandoned cocktail, quickly tipping it up and emptying it into my mouth. I curse at the burn in my throat before grabbing a new wine bottle and unscrewing it, greedily gulping it down.

It's time to forget.

*~*~*

Lifting up the toilet seat I throw myself down onto my knees just in time to empty my stomach into the bowl, groaning.

"Sav?" Becky calls from the doorway and I shake my head in response.

"That was one drink too many." I groan and she laughs, walking over and collecting my hair into a pile on the top of my head.

"You really did knock them back once we got home." She mutters as she sits beside me.

"I wanted to forget about that awkward run in." I pout and she smiles, grabbing some toilet paper and wiping around my mouth with it.

"That's understandable." She nods, grimacing. "Well, I've always been sick at the sight of Brett, so now you know how I feel." She smirks.

"I beg to differ." I snort, "I believe you once called him a wet dream!"

"No!" She objects, "I would never..."

I cut her off by throwing my head back in the toilet bowl and throwing up the rest of my cocktails.

Why did I do this to myself?
