45 ~ November

"You have no idea how much I've missed you!" Becky squeals, pulling me into her arms, "I mean I definitely miss you way more than Haydon does."

"Hey now!" I exclaim, "There's no competition between best friends and boyfriends."

"How is everything between you two?"

"I don't know." I sigh, grabbing hold of one of Becky's bags and opening the door to the dorm building. "He says he forgives me but every time we talk he seems eager to get off the phone from me."

"He's just sensitive." Becky scoffs, following me in. "When we were five I told him I didn't flush his Batman down the toilet." She shrugs, "When he found out that I did he locked himself in his room for a whole day."

"Thanks for that." I retort, grinning as I open the door to my room.

"This room is a lot bigger than mine." She observes, "My parents paid extra so I'd get my own room with en-suite." She rolls her eyes, "But now I have a tiny room. There's not enough room for my clothes."

"Well that's not hard." I scoff, rolling my eyes at her as she begins opening my drawers. "Becky, your clothes fill up your entire walk in wardrobe at home." I remind her, "And that room is bigger than my bedroom back home."

"I'd be offended if it weren't true." She smirks, turning back to face me. "Have you spoken to Zara?"

"A couple of times." I reply, falling back onto my bed "It's so hard with her being in different time zones."

"I still can't believe she went to Italy to study Art." Becky exclaims, plopping down beside me. "I wish I had that kind of ambition."

"Hey, you're doing well too!" I protest.

"I'm studying fashion but I'm not in Milan." She retorts and I shake my head at her defeatist attitude.

"You'll get there."

"I like your positive encouragement." She grins, "What are the guys like at this university? Any I can sink my teeth into?"

"Absolutely not! You're staying in my room, with me!"

"I can always go back to theirs for a quickie." She shrugs.

"It's nice to see that university hasn't changed you." I tease, smirking at her.

"Thank you!"

"Have you made many friends?" I ask, aware of the fact that I have barely heard about how her college experience is going.

"Uhh..."

"Becky?"

"They all seem to think I want to sleep with their boyfriends." She moans, sloping down onto the bed beside me. "They look at me like Georgia used to." She shrugs.

"Georgia didn't know who she was messing with." I remind her, nudging her shoulder. "And nor do those girls." I continue, "It's their loss if they won't give you a chance."

"It was fun when I made out with Dean wasn't it?" Becky smirks, looking off across to the other side of the room, deep in thought. "I still wish you'd seen the look on Georgia's face when she walked in."

"They weren't even together." I point out.

"They were as together as you and Brett were." She scoffs before grinning, "I enjoyed it."

"You're crazy."

"Only because you made me that way." She counters and I shake my head.

"I beg to differ, I think you were crazy before you made friends with me!"

"Ah yes. My hero, standing up to Ashley like that." She snorts, "You were like the only group of girls who wanted to be my friend in that school."

"I'm still trying to decide whether I want to be your friend."

"Hey!" Becky squeals, picking up my pillow from beside her and chucking it, aiming straight for my head.

"Hello?" Elena says, the door opening slowly.

"You must be Elena!" Becky exclaims, jumping up and standing in front of my small wide eyed roommate. "I'm..."

"Becky!" Elena interrupts, smiling back. "Good to meet you."

"You too." Becky grins before turning and sitting down in my desk chair as Elena opens her closet.

"So my parents have decided that they're going to come up and see me this weekend." Elena groans and I raise an eyebrow. "That's four screaming children and two out of control adults." She retorts.

"Sounds great." Becky replies sarcastically.

"I'm going to need a drink to get through it."

"Or five." Becky adds, "Want to join us tonight?"

"Are you sure? It's your catch up. You haven't seen each other in two months."

"Don't I know it." Becky grimaces, "Let's never let it be that long again." Becky leans over, wrapping her arm around me, "But sure. Why not? Join us!"

"What's your plan?" Elena asks.

"We're going to a bar."

"How?"

"We can try and order alcohol." Becky retorts, "They'll let us in, they just might not let us drink. At which point, we'll go somewhere else." She shrugs, "Sav, I can lend you a dress."

"I have my own clothes." I object.

"I bet you don't have one short dress in that closet!" Becky snorts before striding over and wrenching the door open.

"I have some." I protest, grabbing hold of my blanket and curling it around me. I mean give me a break, without my sister or Becky around, I'm pretty much a hopeless cause. I have to stick to what I know and that certainly isn't short dresses.

"Really?" Becky smirks, pulling a long, plain black dress out, "Is this for funerals?"

"I have to agree." Elena states and I roll my eyes. Granted, it's not the nicest dress. I bought it in the sale at Target. Seven dollars. You literally can't go wrong with that kind of bargain.

Although, apparently, you can.

"I've changed my mind. I don't think we should all hang out together." I exclaim before covering my face with my hands as they laugh at me.

*~*~*

"Well, we're in." Elena mutters as we glance around at the bar. I nod as Becky smirks before beginning to make her way towards the bartender. Quickly grabbing hold of her, I yank her back.

"What do you think you're doing?" I hiss and she shrugs.

"Getting us some drinks." She mutters, pulling out the fake ID and winking at me.

"That's hardly going to work." I scoff. "Let me try."

"With what?" Becky retorts, crossing her arms.

"With this." I smirk, whacking the drivers licence out of my bag.

"Is that real?" Becky's eyes widen.

"Elle applied for a new one because she lost hers." I smirk, "We found it a couple of days later."

"Wow." Elena breathes out. "The only big difference is your hair color."

"It's dark in here. He won't be able to tell." I shrug, glancing down at Elle Hurst's old drivers licence. "Just got to hope they don't scan them in here." I mutter. Becky grins at me.

"College changed you." She smirks before grabbing hold of Elena and dragging her off to a table in the corner. I take a deep breath and turn towards the bartender, plastering a fake smile on my face as I stride towards him.

*~*~*

"God that feels so good!" Becky exclaims as she downs a shot and I grimace at her enthusiasm. "You didn't enjoy that?" She asks Elena. I'd stuck to the cocktails.

"No." Elena exclaims, her eyes wide as she stares with hatred at the empty glass.

"I love sambuca." Becky grins, slamming her glass down on the side. We've been here all of ten minutes and Becky has already slammed two shots down her throat. God, I missed her.

"That's my first time having it." Elena announces, still looking horrified.

"It's Becky's favorite drink." I explain before shaking my head at my grinning drunkard of a best friend.

"I can't see why." Elena comments, frowning at her.

"What cocktails did you get us?" Becky exclaims, glancing down at the glasses on the tray beside us, grinning as she sits up straighter. She looks absolutely sensational tonight, her black hair pulled back into a ponytail, a black low cut bodysuit and black leather jeans highlighting her incredible curves.

She's managed to get me into a short navy blue mini-dress which, surprisingly, I don't hate. It hugs my figure in all the right places, which, according to Elena, made me look incredible. Becky agreed, a cheeky grin pinned to her face as she grabbed hold of my blonde hair, straightening it to within an inch of its life. I like it. I just can't seem to do it for myself. I need guidance when it comes to clothes, hair and make-up, especially for a special occasion.

"I got you a Cucumber mule." I mutter, gesturing to it.

"You know me so well." Becky grins, grabbing hold of it.

"What is that?" Elena mutters and Becky hands it over, letting her take a sip.

"Urgh!" She exclaims, "Is that ginger beer in there?"

"Sure is." Becky grins, taking a large gulp.

"I got you a Pina Colada." I say to Elena and she grins, grabbing the glass beside me.

"Gross." Becky rolls her eyes and I smirk as I sip my own Pornstar Martini.

"Becky." A deep voice calls out in surprise and I shut my eyes quickly, gulping the liquid down and feeling it burn. I don't even want to face him tonight, I don't want to see the showdown between Becky and Brett. This is not what I signed up for. Opening my eyes I see Becky purse her lips into a thin lip before whirling around without a second thought.

"Brett." She snaps as her eyes fall on his form, Liam and Laura stood beside him, drinks in hand. Seriously, since when did fake ID's start working? "I'd say it's a pleasure but that would be a lie." She snaps before shooting a smile towards Liam. "Liam, lovely to see you!"

"You too." Liam replies.

"I wouldn't expect anything else." Brett shrugs, before glancing over towards me and sending me a small, slightly embarrassed smile.

"Can you go somewhere else?" Becky scoffs, "Away from us."

"Yeah." Brett replies before turning, "Good seeing you Becky." He calls over his shoulder, masking his emotions with his signature smirk.

"Go fuck yourself Winters!" She snaps before they round the corner, out of sight.

"Are you okay?" Elena asks, eyes wide as she glances at Becky.

"Yeah." Becky replies, "I just hate him."

"Don't we all?" Elena retorts, crossing her arms.

"Yeah." I agree, uncertainty leaking into my voice. Becky shoots me a knowing look and I glance away, biting my lip.

"Let's forget about him." Elena suggests, smiling slightly. "This is alright." She decides, glancing down at her drink.

"What's your usual drink of choice Elena?" Becky asks.

"I haven't quite decided. Maybe rum?" Elena replies to Becky as she furrows her eyebrows in thought.

"Disgusting." Becky replies, outraged. I smirk at the memory before leaning closer to Elena.

"When we were in high school Becky drank rum one night and spent the evening making out with a boy called Chris." I explain, "He followed her around for months after, hoping for more."

"Oh God, I wonder whether he's had any luck at college!" Becky wonders, grimacing as she glances back down at her cocktail.

"He was cute!" I laugh as she scoffs, lifting the glass back up to her lips. "I always wonder what they're up to. Ellis, Ben..."

"Well don't." Becky cuts me off, "Chances are they forgot about you as soon as they left." She scoffs, "Ellis is probably balls deep in some girl as we speak."

"Whoa!" Elena exclaims, eyes wide.

"Becky and Ellis wanted each other." I explain to Elena, smirking.

"That is ridiculous." Becky snaps, "I'm gonna shut you up!"

"I'd like to see you try!"

"Girls!" Elena squeals, throwing her hand into the middle, between us. "Let's get another drink."

"Good idea!" Becky replies, shooting me a glare before turning to the menu.

"So Becky liked Ellis. Got it!" Elena mutters to me and I laugh as Becky's head flies up, shooting me a dirty look.

"Excuse me girls." A deep voice booms and we turn to look at the tall, intimidating security man, dressed in black. "Could I see some ID please?"

Well, shit.

*~*~*

Lying in bed, I stare up at the ceiling, the moon slightly illuminating the footprint on the ceiling. It's times like this I wonder if the mystery person who imprinted it there was having a better time than me at college.

Don't get me wrong, I love my course, and I've made incredible friends, namely Elena and Polly, but Brett being here is always a constant reminder of my past, a reminder of the negative areas of my life.

But maybe I'm thinking of it all wrong. Sure, he humiliated me and cut my heart into pieces, but it was by far my favorite Summer, the most fun I've ever had. He gave me a trip to Stanford, he saved my life, he made me feel like I was completely out of control, but also strangely, still in control of the wild, carefree aspect of my life.

I need to give him credit for that. I need to give myself credit for that.

I enjoyed what I was like that Summer, letting go, not caring. I was purely down for having fun, fuck the consequences. And he brought that out of me.

I don't forgive him. I don't know whether I ever will. But at least he showed me a different side to myself.

"Sav?" Becky's voice whispers from beside me.

"Yeah?"

"Are you really okay with Brett being here?" She asks quietly and I shut my eyes at the question, grateful for the darkness that hides the expression on my face.

"Becky I'm with Haydon now." I remind her, "He's the only boy on my mind."

"Whatever you say..." She replies, "Just know I'm here for you."

"I know Bec." I can't help but smile, even though she can't see, "I love you."

"Love you too."

"I'm sorry we got kicked out of that bar." I cringe at the thought and hear Becky giggle.

"Sorry?" She retorts, "That was some wild stuff Sav. I loved it." Of course she did. Me, I feel like I won't be able to get over that humiliation for a long time, Brett, Laura and Liam wide eyed as they watched us being carted out.

"Bec?"

"Yeah?"

"Do you think Haydon would like to go to a film festival?" I ask quietly, "It's in a few weeks and I just thought because he loves films..."

"I think it's an amazing idea Sav." She cuts me off, "I'll make sure he keeps the date free."

"I'm trying." I mutter, my voice full of desperation. She reaches up, grabbing hold of my hand and giving it a reassuring squeeze.
