32 ~ August
I'm throwing the trash into the bin when a loud roar from the end of the street startles me. I look up towards sound to see the dark figure coming towards me atop a sparkling motorbike. He stops beside me, my mouth dropping open as he pulls the helmet off.
"What?" I manage. "What is this?"
"You said it was sexy." Brett grins and I shake my head, laughing.
"I mean... you do look..."
"Come on." He gestures, "Let's go for a ride."
"Do you know how to drive it?" I retort and he smirks.
"I think I've got it figured."
"Elle would not be happy with this." I shake my head, crossing my arms.
"Is Elle home?"
"Yes."
"You better get on quickly then."
"Brett!" I exclaim as he grins at me. I look him over, leaning up against his bike, his arms crossed, a leather jacket. He's like Danny from Grease except he has far nicer hair. And his body is more muscular, more attractive. I tear my eyes away from him as he smirks and can't help the smile that appears on my face.
"Fine."
*~*~*
He turns off the engine and I carefully retract my hands from around his waist, my heart beating ridiculously fast. That was terrifying but also the most exhilarating thing I have ever done. I jump off, stumbling slightly as he follows suit.
"Wow!" I exclaim, taking the helmet off. "Why do you never drive it?" He takes his helmet off too, running his hand through his hair to rearrange it.
"I prefer the car." He explains as I look around at the wooded area, glancing back at him curiously.
"Where are we?"
"Come and see." He replies, holding his hand out to me. I hesitate slightly before I take it and he rolls his eyes. "Still Stubborn Savannah I see."
He leads me through the trees, along the well trodden path and away from the bike. After a couple of minutes he turns off of the trail, reaching up and helping me down the hill. I gratefully accept his aid, smiling as I follow him through the undergrowth, the trees blowing softly in the breeze. As the trees break he stops and I peer round him, surprised by the lake that's in front of me.
"This is pretty." I muse, taking a step around him. "How do you find all these places?"
"You just have to know where to look."
"And how do you know that?"
"Go where no-one else goes." He shrugs.
"That could also lead to you getting murdered." I point out.
"I suppose so." He smirks, "But hopefully no-one else is around."
"We'll just have to hope." I grin, reaching up and kissing him hard. He seems surprised by my forwardness, taking a few seconds to respond before resting his hand on my hips and moving his lips in sync with my own.
He steps back, smiling slightly before sitting down on the ground, pulling me with him. I collapse beside him, falling slightly into his chest. Looking out over the peaceful lake I can't help but think how content I am, how happy I've been this Summer. Brett continues to surprise me, to make my life an adventure.
"Did you hear from the police?" He asks, gently running his hand along my arm.
"Yeah." I shrug, looking down at my shoes. "He was in debt to a drug dealer."
"Dickhead." Brett curses under his breath. "Are they charging him?"
"I think so." I reply, looking down at the sleeve of my dress, playing with the loose thread. "The Diner isn't that bothered but I think he'll still go down for a few months for attacking me."
"The Diner isn't bothered?" He repeats and I bite my lip.
"No."
"Fuck sake." He curses softly, "I wish you didn't work for them."
"I know." I acknowledge, "Anyway... let's talk about something else." I add, "Becky said your parents are back."
"Becky?"
"She saw you out with them on Tuesday night." I explain.
"Do you send her to spy on me?" He teases and I smirk.
"Maybe."
"They're back for the week. Have an important business meeting in Sacramento." He replies, his tone bitter.
"Why did they move here?" I ask, turning around to look at him. "When all their business is elsewhere?"
"I think they wanted Alice and I to grow up away from the city." He answers, "But because of that they never spend any time with us."
"But they took you for dinner!" I try to point out.
"I had to eat five courses." He snorts.
"Oh the horror!" I mock, laughing slightly.
"I was still hungry at the end! Do you know how small the portion sizes are?" He grimaces and I laugh, wrapping my arms around his neck and scooting closer to him.
"You poor boy." I taunt and he growls, making me laugh harder. I lean in, unable to help myself as I meet his lips with mine once more. He's addictive to me, my own personal drug, and I can't help myself. I have no idea why I haven't been out there kissing boys my whole life.
Pulling back hesitantly he grins cheekily at me before jumping up, holding his hand out to me.
"Come on!" He exclaims. I stare at his hand, before curiously looking up at his mischievous grin.
"What?" I ask, hesitantly taking his hand. He pulls me up, holding onto my hand tightly.
"Let's swim."
"Swim? I haven't got a swimsuit!" I retort, eyes wide.
"Come on Hurst. I've seen most of it before." He smirks and I reach up, punching him in the shoulder. "Hey!" He exclaims and I scowl at him. He reaches down, pulling his shoes and socks off, before unbuttoning his jeans.
"What are you doing?" I exclaim, covering my eyes as he pulls them off, his laugh echoing around the vast woodland. I can't help but peek through my eyes, watching as he pulls his top off. He's as gorgeous as I remember, his chest sculpted by the Gods.
"Come on!" He exclaims as I drop my hands away from my face. He runs away, towards the water, splashing it everywhere as he dives in. He emerges from the water, slicking his hair back from his face as he grins at me. "Come on Savvie!" He taunts.
"Don't call me that!" I yell back, contemplating what to do. It's cold and I don't have a swimsuit. Should I really be swimming in dirty lake water? I mean, who knows what germs there are in there.
Oh come on Savannah. People swim in lakes all the time. Plus, only two weeks ago you were pinned up against a wall, your life draining out of you, regretting that you hadn't lived your life to the full.
"Fine." I exclaim and he cheers, making me laugh. I slowly pull my shoes off before quickly pulling the red summer dress over my head, piling it next to the mess that is Brett's discarded clothing.
"I'm getting old here!" He exclaims and I roll my eyes before turning towards the lake, my arms crossed across my front, trying to hide my bra from his sights. I squeal as I run into the water, the liquid far colder than I imagined. I throw myself in, desperate to sink into the water and hide my body as soon as possible. He laughs at my squeals, grabbing me around the waist and throwing me in deeper, away from him. I send a surge of water back, splashing him in his face and laughing.
We lose ourselves in the lake, swimming and laughing as the minutes pass. He wins the breath holding competition, no doubt due to his level of fitness being eighty times better than mine.
Eventually I find myself latched onto his neck, my legs wrapped around him as we make out. He pulls back, smiling down at me, his eyes sparkling.
"Are you happy?" He asks, softly. I smile in return, shifting myself closer to him.
"Very." I assure. He smiles before moving his hand away from my waist and bringing it up the contours of my body. I shiver in anticipation as it rests just below my breasts. His smile widens suddenly, his hand leaving my body before a wall of water hits my face, causing me to let go and fall back into the lake.
"No!" I squeal as he laughs, "Brett!" I yell, outraged as he begins to swim away from me, "I'll get you!" I warn.
"I'd like to see you try!" He retorts, grinning as I dive into the water, heading straight for him.
*~*~*
"You read my mind." I smile up at Brett and he grins, parking the bike outside the pizza restaurant and effortlessly getting off. He holds his hand out to help me off and I can't help the smile that dominates my face at his gentlemanly gesture. We walk over to the restaurant and he drops my hand, reaching for the door and opening it for me. I smile in thanks as I walk in, him following.
"It smells good in here." I comment as he leads me over to a booth.
"It does." He agrees as we sit down. He reaches over to the table behind us, grabbing a menu and chucking it at me. I quickly grab it before it hits me in the face before shooting him a scowl. "Which pizza are you going to get?"
"Extra cheese." I reply, just moments after picking up the menu. My favorite.
"Just cheese?" He raises an eyebrow at me.
"Don't 'just cheese' me!" I retort, chucking the menu over at him. "Cheese is incredible, and extra cheese is amazing."
"Okay!" He smirks before turning to the waitress who has quickly appeared at our table, her wide eyes fixed on him. He barely glances at her and I can't help the smugness that seeps through me. "Two extra cheese pizzas please."
"You're going for that too?" I am surprised. The waitress nods, looking slightly disheartened as she turns away.
"I trust you." He shrugs, reaching over and grabbing hold of my hand on top of the table. Public displays of affection with Brett Winters. Who would have known.
"Alright." I grin, "Prepare to be amazed."
"How are you?" He asks softly, changing the subject. My smile immediately drops a little.
"I'm fine."
"Sav..."
"What?"
"I'm serious." He tries, "How are you after what happened?"
"I... I'll be okay." I insist, "I had a nightmare last night." I admit and he squeezes my hand. "But that's bound to happen."
"Sav..."
"Brett." I cut him off, desperate not to think about it. "I appreciate everything you've done." I smile, "I'll be okay. He's locked up."
"It's okay to admit that you aren't okay." He replies softly, eyes filled with concern. I smile, squeezing his hand in reassurance. Who knew Brett had a heart?
"You are so thoughtful." I smile, "You being here is enough." I assure him, "I'm okay when I'm with you." I finish, feeling a slight blush flood my cheeks at the admission.
"Guess I'll have to come back to yours and sleep with you tonight then!" He grins, sitting back in his chair.
"Don't push your luck Winters!" I narrow my eyebrows at him. "I don't think Elle would let you in!"
We continue to chat, the conversation drifting to movies that we've recently watched, his admission of enjoying Harry Potter pleasing me greatly. The waitress eventually brings over our food, placing the two pizzas in front of us.
"Thank you!" I smile up at her and she nods before walking off. Brett looks down at the pizza, smiling as he picks up the cutlery beside him.
"What are you doing?"
"What?" He asks, looking up, eyes wide.
"No!" I exclaim, a smirk appearing on my face. "You really are a rich boy!" I giggle, "Were you about to eat that pizza with a knife and fork?"
"Well we're in a restaurant..."
"I can't believe this!" I chuckle, clapping my hands together in glee.
"Okay okay!" He places the cutlery back down on the table before raising his hands in a surrender. "I use my hands most of the time..."
"Whatever you say!" I smirk, picking up a slice of my pizza and taking a bite. I watch as he bites into his slice, his mouthful twice the size of mine. "How is it?"
"It's good!" He admits, nodding as he takes another bite.
"I told you!"
"I don't know whether it's quite as good as pepperoni but..."
"You're wrong!" I cut him off and he raises his eyebrows.
"I'm wrong?"
"Yes!" I declare, narrowing my eyes at him.
"How is everything for you?" The waitress cuts in, smiling as she looks at both of us.
"Ask him!" I exclaim, gesturing to the idiot across the table. He almost chokes on his pizza as he looks up at her.
"I... It's great thanks."
"You're welcome." She smiles at him cautiously before leaving. I smirk as he glares over at me.
"Trying to get me in trouble?" He asks and I shrug.
"Always."
"Where did you come from Savannah Hurst?" He grins, wiping his hands on the napkin.
"Apartment 7 of Grogtale..."
"No." He cuts me off, shaking his head with amusement laced into his smile. "I mean WHERE did you come from? How did it take so long for me to get to know you?"
"Because you had your attention on Ashley Farrier. And any other girl who was popular." I point out, taking another bite out of my pizza. If you had told me I'd be eating pizza, willingly, with Brett Winters a year ago I would have laughed and declared it more likely I'd have been friends with Ashley.
"I like to say I knew all the girls at Edgewater High." Brett winks, teasing me, and I glare back.
"You didn't get to know me because I didn't look like the sort of girl who would drop her pants for you."
"I think you would." He grins, leaning across the table.
"Shut up!" I snap, before lowering my voice. "Not back then I wouldn't!"
"So you're saying you would now?"
"What?" I splutter, "No! I don't..." I trail off before scowling at him. "Leave me alone!"
