Chapter 12 - Gabe
I finally made it to the human camp.
Bar was nowhere in sight. That stupid angel always pushed himself to work harder and harder. To me it seemed like he was wasting perfectly good earth time. I, on the other hand, didn't mind taking it slow.
When I landed, the place around me seemed to be in chaos. A guard approached me timidly. He could barely look me in the eye. I didn't have time for this. "Where are my new recruits?" I asked, my patience running low.
He jumped at the sound of my voice. "There... there was an... incident." His words trembled out of his mouth.
I rolled my eyes. I could be enjoying a warm cup of tea right about now, instead of having to deal with him. "What incident?"
Before he could answer me another guard approached him. He gave me a quick look with his big blue eyes. A saying I heard came to mind. If looks could kill...
"Reegan and Grayson are gone, and they took Zoe and Tommy with them," he whispered to the first guard. Surely he didn't mean for me to hear him.
The first guard looked petrified as he turned his gaze toward me. "Just give me my new recruits." When he didn't move I slowly placed my hand on top of the hilt of my sword and added, "I will get them either way, human."
The other guard came forward. "What are you going to do, angel?" He spat out the last word. If Bar were here he would probably find this scene very interesting and entertaining but it only made the itch behind my eyes grow and made me even more irritated.
"Stefan!" the first guard gasped. "What are you doing?"
The human in front of me, Stefan –I hated learning human names, I seemed to never be able to forget them- didn't move. "I want my recruits," I said steadily drawing my sword just an inch.
"And you will have them. But," the first guard muttered still not looking at me. He actually looked anywhere else but at me. I started thinking that maybe he was looking for something.
"But, what? Don't tell me they ran away," I commented dryly.
"Well..."
I jumped over both of them and studied my surroundings around me. I was immediately drawn to the new recruits of their camp. As I neared them I realized that all the new recruits of Bar where still here. What has he got himself into, again?
I neared my recruits and I suddenly realized that I was missing two. I spat at the ground. Why did people think they could run away from their destiny, away from me?
As I was about to search for them and let this whole night be over, Stefan came near me. "There are two others with them. They still haven't changed," he said like he knew I already realized of the two missing recruits.
I eyed him expectantly. "And?"
"You can't hurt them," he said but it seemed like his brave facade had finally dropped. I wasn't about to explain to him that I didn't bother with anyone that was not of importance to my side, since he was also of none importance.
I turned away from him and mentally reached for the two missing recruits when I barely heard his words. "Please." It was only a whisper but it seemed like it was more important than anything he had said so far. I always wondered how humans managed to make such small, weak words sound so grave.
I ignored him and searched for the two recruits, ready to stop wasting my time. "There they..." I trailed off as their presence suddenly disappeared and I couldn't feel them anymore. That shouldn't have bothered me. There were some occasions where humans will kill themselves after changing. But something didn't add up.
I looked around. Bar's recruits where still here even though he was ahead of me and the guard had said something about two more humans leaving with my new recruits. Something didn't add up at all. What did that damned angel get himself into?
