Mama, I killed a man-creature-thing

I am holding my sword very tightly in my hand while fear is rushing through my body.

Luckily it is dark so the boys don't see me tremble.

But as always – if he can sense it in some way – Aragorn's hand is on my own, comforting me again. His face lights up in Gandalf's spooky light, a smile can be seen by the corner of his mouth. 'Quietly, now. It's a four day journey to the other side. Let us hope that our presence will go unnoticed' Gandalf says in a hushed tone and starts to walk. We walk timidly after the wizard, the light of his staff guiding us. We cross a precarious bridge above deep mine workings.

This place is magnificent!

We follow Gandalf into a chamber with old ropes and ancient looking ladders. 'What is this?' I ask in no one in particular. Gandalf smiles while touching a shining substance on the wall. 'This Sara is Mithril. The wealth of Moria was not in gold or jewels but mithril' Gandalf says and holds his staff over the expansive drop beside us. I look down. All I see is an endless depth of the mine and a faint blue glow issues from the depths. 'Mithril is stronger than steel. Nothing can break through it' Gandalf explains me and starts walking again. 'Bilbo had a shirt of mithril rings that Thorin gave him'

'Oh, that was a kingly gift' Gimli says in wonder. Gandalf laughs and it echoes through the chamber. 'Yes. I never told him, but it's worth was greater than the value of the Shire'

Is that a lot?

We continue to walk up a steep stair while we pass through a dwarf cemetery. It looks creepy and I move closer towards Legolas, who walks next to me. 'Calm Sara, nothing is going to happen' He assures me.

I know that, but still. Walking through a graveyard in a dark spooky place is not the things I normally do. After more than a hour walking or so, Gandalf stops in front of a tunnel, that splits into three passages. 'I have no memory of this place' Gandalf mumbles.

'Why can't he use magic to get us out of here?' I grumble annoyed. We are waiting for a very long time now. And because there are no mobiles or even watches around here, I do not know which time it is!

My attention is caught by Aragorn, who is running a hand through his hair.

Seriously, he is his handsome!

I look back at the wizard, so Aragorn can't catch me staring at him. But Legolas does, he smirks at me and I roll my eyes.

Stupid elf guy.

Gandalf sits in front of the tunnel, staring intently at it. He looks like he is lost in his own world. A rock falls down on the ground and I jump a bit. This place is getting on my nerves. Pippin, who is sitting at the left of me, is nervously moving around. 'Are we lost?' He speaks up, clearly tired of the waiting. The men around me tense up at his question, the nervous silence around us gone. 'No. I don't think we are. Shhh, Gandalf's thinking' Merry answers him quietly. 'Merry!' Pippin says a bit too loud. 'What?' Merry answers annoyed. I chuckle. O boy, I love these two. Always bickering about things. 'I'm hungry' Is Pippins answers and I can't help it but laugh. In the corner of my eye, I see Frodo walking towards Gandalf and they talk in a hushed tone. A sudden brightness lets us all stand. 'Ah! It's that way' Gandalf exclaims happily and stands up, pointing to the right tunnel. 'He's remembered!' Merry says relieved. Gandalf turns to the boy. 'No. But the air doesn't smell so foul down here. If in doubt, Meriadoc, always follow your nose!' The wizard laughs.

That is a thing to remember...

We follow Gandalf through the tunnel, until we pass under an arched doorway into a black and empty space. Gandalf stops. 'Let me risk a little more light' He mumbles and taps his staff. A flash of lightning appears and the whole chamber is for a second bathed in light. 'Behold! The great realm and Dwarf-city of Dwarrowdelf!' Gandalf announces. My breath escapes me. because the sight I see. A whole city carved out of the rocks. 'Well, there's an eye opener and no mistake!' Sam says in wonder. I nod in agreement. This place is beautiful!

Suddenly Gimli rushes ahead of us. He runs towards a wooden door that is embedded with black arrows. 'Gimli!' Gandalf shouts but the Dwarf doesn't listen. I rush after Gimli, I mean someone has to stop him but soon the others follow. I follow him into another chamber where I see Gimli, sitting on his knees before what looks like a tomb. 'No...no!' He cries. A little ray of sunlight comes through a small hole near the roof and it hits the tomb right in the middle. Everywhere in the room are skeletons scattered across the floor. '"Here lies Balin, son of Fundin, Lord of Moria." He is dead, then. It's as I feared'' Gandalf speaks up. I jump a little at his sudden voice. He stands before the tomb, carefully lifting a rotten book of the slab. I walk towards Gimli and put a hand on his shoulder. 'Kilmin malur ni zaram kalil ra narag. Kheled-zâram ... Balin Tazlifi' Gimli chants in a foreign language. 'It's okay Gimli' I whisper to him. But he cries out again and then looks at me. 'Thankyou Lassie' He says with a sad smile. 'That is what friends are for'

'Thankyou' He says again and stands up from the floor. '"They have taken the Bridge and the second hall: we have barred the gates ... but cannot hold them for long ... the ground shakes ... drums drums in the deep ... we cannot get out. A shadow moves in the dark. Will no-one save us? They are coming." Gandalf reads aloud. The shivers run across my spine. 'Who has written this?'

Gimli turns to me to answer but a loud clattering makes me freeze. Pippin and Merry are standing by a well, looking like a dear caught in the spotlights. Pippin backs off, looking with regret at Gandalf. 'Fool of a Took! Throw yourself in next time, and rid us of your stupidity!' Gandalf says in angry at Pippin. With the silence that follows, I can hear a low rolling boom rises from below. It grows louder and an horn blast nearby. Next running feet can be heard. And those feet are making harsh cries.

'Mister Frodo!' Sam calls out and we all look to Frodo. He holds his sword, what is turned blue.

Why is it blue!?

'Orcs!' Legolas yells alarmed. 'Get back! Stay close to Gandalf!' Aragorn orders the Hobbits, who quickly run towards Gandalf. He and Boromir run to the door and slam it closed. 'They have a cave-troll!' Boromir yells in shock.

What is that?

'Let them come! There is one Dwarf yet in Moria who still draws breath!' Gimli yells, standing on top of the tomb, holding to axes. 'Sara? Are you ready?' Legolas is standing next to me, looking worried. 'For what? To be killed. Yeah I think I am' I try to sound sarcastic. But fear is taking me over. 'Remember what we taught you. Remember what you said to Gimli. We are your friends and they protect each other' I smile at him. 'Thankyou' And with that the door burst open and more than twenty ugly looking creatures charge at us, followed by what seems to be a cave troll. In a second everyone is fighting. I duck and try to stab the ugly creatures. But they are fast, and they dodge away from my blows. I turn and dodge to the ground, sticking my sword in a creatures belly. 'I got one!' I yell exited. 'Good!' Boromir yells from somewhere. 'Now keep going!'

I want to turn around and kill another one of those ugly thingy's but I have stabbed my sword too deep in its stomach. I set my foot on his lower stomach and try to pull my sword out of it. I pull hard and with a thud it comes free.

Covered in blood.

A stinging pain rises from my thigh and when I look down, blood drips down on the ground. The creature who tried to stab me, is still standing before me. 'Rude!' I shout at him and move to the right. He lunges at me and I dodge it. Only to feel another heat of pain rise from my upper arm. A dagger has imbedded itself in my arm and it doesn't looks great. 'Are you gonna want this back or can I keep it?' I smirk at him and drive my sword into his chest. He falls down, dead.

Two down!

I look around and see that all of the creatures are dead. Legolas shoots his arrow at the cave-troll, who also falls dead. 'Frodo!' Aragorn yells in shock as he runs towards the boy. Frodo? I run also towards him, he is laying on the floor.

Don't be dead. Please don't be dead. I fall on my knees besides him and grab his shoulders. 'Frodo?'

I feel Aragorn eyes gaze at me, but I ignore him. I let my breath escape as Frodo coughs and takes a huge breath. 'He is alive' Sam signs relieved. 'I'm all right. I'm not hurt' Frodo says with a smile when I help him sit up. 'You should be dead. That spear would have skewered a wild boar' Aragorn says in wonder. 'I think there's more to this Hobbit than meets the eye' Gandalf remarks. Frodo opens his shirt and my eyes grow wide. He is wearing the mithril thing what Gandalf told us about. The shirt-that-is-more-worth-than-the-Shire shirt.

I have one of these.

'Mithril! You are full of surprises, Master Baggins!' Gimli says happily. 'Why are you covered in blood?' Aragorn suddenly asks. I shrug. 'Oh I got stabbed'

'What? When?' He cries out and takes my arm, so he can look at the wound. 'Also a gash in my leg'

'I don't know when. Ask the person who stabbed me!' Aragorn looks at me. 'This is not funny Sara, you are hurt'

'Only a little bit but-' My voice is replaced by the sound of drums ringing out again. Heavier than before. Gandalf turns to us, he looks worried. 'There is no time to help her here Aragorn! To the bridge of Khazad-Dûm!'

Which bridge?
