Frozen Diary II
Britney laid on her bed, the cold air flowing through the slightly open window. Her face sore and her eyes swollen up and nose running. Her sigh trembles and she tried not cry again. She climbs off the bed and takes the diary out of under the bed. Takes the pen and starts to write again, “Dear Diary it’s been a few hours later, mother is now out on the living room couch after father told her he wanted a divorce, Jacob has a choke mark around his neck and Caleb tried to stop his nose bleed. I threw mothers five hundred-thousand-dollar wine on the floor after she tried to choke Jacob to death and threw her pills over the room. Then mother slapped making me fall into the wine with glass pieces. I’ve cut myself on my arm and my face hurts, its going to leave some mark tomorrow. I feel horrible like tonight I can’t see a thing outside, but I just want to say.” Just before Britney could write the final words on the paper, she hears something from outside the snow is crunching.
She stands up from the bed and looks out the window although she couldn’t see, she knew that the sensor light would go off any minute. Another step was taken, and the light went off revealing Jacob and Caleb trying to sneak out. Britney screams, “what are you doing?”
Caleb responds, “We are done sis, we are running away. Me and Jacob are done. Life doesn’t allow us to go back and fix what we have done wrong in the past, but it does allow for us to live each day better than our last.”
And just like that was her brothers’ final words when the tragedy happened. Caleb smiles and a tear form in his eyes. He and Jacob turns around and steps on the frozen lake and starts to walk off. Until the ice cracks and the two boys falls in the frozen lake with all their luggage on their backs. Britney is in shock and runs out of her room and into her father’s room, she wakes him and tries to tell him about the two boys, but Teagan was still asleep, until Britney starts to shake Teagan to wake him up.
Finally, he wakes up and listens to Britney about the boys, “They… They fell into the lake.”
Teagan climbs out of the bed, and through the house he runs, opens the sliding door leading to the outside balcony. He runs down the stairs and towards the frozen lake. Britney stands on the balcony and watches as Teagan dives into the lake, “What is going on?” Mia asks confused
Bubbles flowing up to the surface, Teagan sees the two boys, he grabs them both and swims towards the surface where the ice broke. When he comes up the surface, he takes a deep breath and pulls the two on the ground full of snow, Teagan didn’t care if he catches hyperthymia, he cared for his son’s health and wanted them to survive, doing CPR and moth to mouth trying to put their breath back and still nothing. Britney clenches the wood railing and prays the two makes it.
A few minutes of trying to save the two, Teagan feels for a pulse on both bodies. Britney sees his head going down slowly. She runs towards her father leaving her mother behind. Mia inhales and exhales but it trembles. She walks inside the house and feels tears rolling off her face, she tries to stop it, but nothing worked, it has been hours since her last dosage of wine and drugs. She falls on the soft carpet against the wooden wall and cries her heart out she never felt this way in ever.
Teagan pleads and prays for the two to come back to life. Britney stands behind Teagan and hugs him comforting him. He screams both tears falling on the frozen ground. That day none of them will forget. Teagan feels like a failure and his guilt starts to rise, Britney couldn’t control her breathing and just cried it out, her father comforting her.
3 Weeks Later
Outside in a beautiful graveyard a priest says, “If our last member of the family could share their eulogy .”
Britney steps up, takes a folded paper out of her pocket and fold it open.
She then starts reading, “The day we all will never forget; it’s been a week and the family broke. The death of Jacob and Caleb will never be forgotten ever. We will never forget their funny humor, fun times with friends and sometimes family, we will never feel the same without them. They came into this world full of laughter and joy and they left this world by a smile and tears. Our family will never be perfect especially without them. We will never see take a photo of their first prom, we won’t be at their weddings, and we will never see them as parents. Jacob and Caleb were not perfect like the rest of us, but we always valued and appreciate them. Then the final words are: Life doesn’t allow us to go back and fix what we have done wrong in the past, but it does allow for us to live each day better than our last. That was Caleb’s final words.”
