Coming Clean

-Jack Frost POV-

I flew around free as the wind. It was the last day of my break to bring the final snow to the world, so I may as well make the most of it.

I thought about the events that transpired over that time. I now had a handful of Muggle children who believed in me, I was accepted as a guardian, and I have friends like me. Immortal. Things were definitely looking up.

I decided to pay one last visit to the pole before going back to Hogwarts. I wasn't going to tell them about my job in the wizarding world. Not yet. But I better go see at least North before going back. He'd become like a father to me.

I flew in the window and saw North immediately, giving orders to a group of Yetis.

"Hey Kringle!" I said to him, dropping down.

He turned and smiled, "Ha! Jack ma boy! What brings you here?"

I shrugged, "Just saying hi as winter comes to a close. How's your part going?"

"Far ahead of schedule despite the setback with Pitch. We will be working hard to keep it that way."

I smiled as we continued to talk. I'll tell them eventually. Now just wasn't the time.

I flew in the window of my room at Hogwarts that night after sundown. I knew I'd need to tell Professor Dumbledore what happened over the break, but we wouldn't need to worry since the wise old man would be asleep.

I put my, what most would call, normal attire in the closet, and pulled silk Japanese sleep clothing from it, slipping it over myself. I found myself more comfortable in the Japanese attire that Dumbledore had given me for an odd reason. My closet contained mostly kimonos for for both men and female depending on my mood. The rest was a traditional black, dark blue, blue, and sky blue wizarding robes.

Sleep wasn't necessary for me unless exposed to heat for too long, but I still slept a similar pattern to the others in the school when I can get away with it. It provided me a sense of connection to the students beyond what I already had.

Smiling, I fell asleep. Ready to tell Professor Dumbledore all about my spring break and begin to teach my classes once again.

-Three and ½ months later-

North and Tooth were having a casual discussion when the subject turned to Jack.

"Have you noticed how he never shows up unless summoned or for a meeting?" Tooth asked curiously.

North nodded, "It does seem odd. Especially since when he does come, he tends to have ink on his hands. What would he be writing about?"

"And he's also been mumbling to himself in a different language."

"Japanese," North confirmed. "I don't know how he knows it. He also seems to be just a tad uncomfortable."

"We need to talk to him," Tooth said, earning an agreement from North.

"All we need is an excuse to call everyone so we won't upset him by pulling him from whatever he's working on."

One week after that conversation, it was time for the monthly report from all the Guardians. Jack knew this, of course, but still tried to get as much on his lesson plan done as possible before going. He also really didn't want to change into that hoodie and pants. His kimonos were so much more comfortable.

Jack sighed as he felt that familiar feeling within him and looked out the window to see the green Northern lights shining in the distance.

He sighed once more and put the blue sign on his door. Blue meant he was off on scheduled business with the Guardians, Green meant unscheduled and might take who knows how long. White means giving snow somewhere. That was the first made. The other two were recent additions since becoming a guardian.

He grabbed the staff he laid on the bed and flew out the window. 10 minutes later, he arrived at the pole.

The meeting commenced and they each gave a report. When it came to Jack as the last person, he just shrugged, "Yellowstone seemed to like their yearly summer snowman building contest."

North then got more serious. "Jack, we've been worried about you. We never see you when not in meetings, you space out a lot, mumble in Japanese, and always come with ink on your hands. Even now you have black all over your fingers."

Jack froze and looked at the faces of the other guardians. After a long silence, he sighed and stood, "It's time we had a talk. Let's go to the fire place." With that, he walked out of the room.

The others exchanged glances before following. They found him leaning against the mantel, almost glaring at the dancing flames. The group sat down.

"What is it Jack?" Tooth asked.

He took a deep breath, "Well, I haven't been completely alone for all of my life after I was chosen. I was surrounded by people who could see me and love me." He looked at the group. "I've been teaching at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry."

It was silent before Bunny burst out laughing. "Alright Mate, good one, but what are you actually doing?"

"I'm serious," he said, no hesitation in his voice whatsoever. "I was in Japan before I was turned into Jack Frost. I'm hired to teach forin magic to the students as an extracurricular class for third year up. I even conduct a few after school activities."

Bunny realized he wasn't joking around and calmed down, "How?"

Jack shrugged, "The Headmaster found me at a particularly low part of my life, noticed the Japanese markings of my staff, and offerd for me to teach as a forin professor. It also cured my loneliness and touch starvation. Somehow, the past ten years healed almost 300 years of damage and made me even better. The job was why I was so insistent that I not be a Guardian at first. But I'm working it out."

The group sat and processed the information. Other than Sandy who tried to hide his smile that he finally came clean. Jack stood there and let them think until the fireplace roared with a green fire.

The four older guardians lept into defensive positions while Jack looked at the fire confused.

Out stepped an old man, long robes, long beard, and heeled boots. "Ah! I was hoping to find all of you here."

"Professor Dumbledore? What are you doing here?" Jack asked at the sudden appearance of his employer. Meanwhile, the other four in the rooms faces were priceless.

The Professor looked at the spirits reactions and smiled. "Have you told them yet, Jack?"

Jack nodded, "Just now."

Dumbledore smiled, twinkle in his eye. "I suppose I should introduce myself. I am Professor Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. And this," He gestured to Jack, "Is one of our finest teachers."

The group looked at Jack shocked, while he just blushed blue at the praise.

The Headmaster continued, "Yes, in the short time of ten years, he's become quite the favorite among students. I often consider him to be our unofficial school counselor."

Jack noticed Sandy's smirk and asked, "You seem to be taking this well Sandy." The golden boy shrugged in response. "Did you know? I never mentioned it."

He nodded and formed a picture of a child sleeping as snowflakes danced above their head.

"They dream of me?"

Sandy simply nodded and Jack smiled, glad to know he left a good impression on them.

"Anyway, not to sound rude, what are you doing here?" North asked.

Dumbledore smiled, "Jack told me all about what happened with Pitch Black last spring." The looked at Jack to find he was avoiding eye contact, playing with his staff. "I found a way that you may avoid all the lights going out at once."

Everyone, including Jack looked at Dumbledore surprised. "How?" Jack asked looking at him.

He smiled and looked at the Guardians, "Come to Hogwarts." They all looked at him shocked. "Teach the kids in Jacks class about your centers."

Jack laughed, "I don't know. They're all extremely busy."

Dumbledore nodded, "I am aware, they will merely show up on the first day and help teach a few of his classes."

Jack looked at Dumbledore dumbfounded before taking a deep breath. "I'll shuffle around my classes to make room."

"Hang on," Bunny said holding up his paw, "What's the name of your class?"

"Eastern Magic and Culture," Jack responded as he twirled his staff obviously nervous.

Tooth laughed slightly, "Wouldn't imagine you as one who would want to teach that."

"That's just it!" Jack said a little louder than he intended. "I'm not what you think I am. I'm a fake." He pulled on his sweaters front, "This is fake." He sighed and sat on a seat by the fireplace. "I don't even know why I was wearing this at all when I first met you. I hate wearing it!"

The older guardians looked at each other as Jack calmed himself, "Jack," North began, "If you will let us, we want to get to know the real you."

He looked at them and smiled, "Thanks for saying that."

Sandy stepped forward and raised a thumb up, "You'll do it?" Jack guessed, earning a nod.

North stepped forward as well, "I shall come along as well. It's about time I found what magic people would like for Christmas."

"I'll come too," Tooth said fluttering over. "I would love to talk to kids and be out in the field again."

Everyone looked at Bunny who had yet to decide. He took a deep breath, "Might as well. Guardians stick together."
