Growing Closer: Commission
Adrien opened the door to a very startled Marinette.
"You're not walking to your death you know!" He closed the door as she walked into the foyer area, he may have said that to her but she was about to come face-to-face with Gabriel Agreste.
She was most certain she was walking to the stake.
"This is so much Adrien! What if I mess this up? Your fathers going to kill me:"
"I'm not going to kill anyone Miss Dupain-Cheng." Both heroes looked up to find Gabriel Agreste staring down at them from the platform separating the ascending staircases.
As normal, his hands were securely placed behind his back, glasses on, but for the first time in forever he was wearing a formal tuxedo in his usual white as Nathalie stood beside him in a black cocktail dress. Marinette could feel the cringe of herself, and of Tikki circulate through her body.
"Good evening, Mr Agreste. Thank you for having me here." Marinette panicked and curtsied at the bottom on the staircase causing Adrien to snort out in laughter.
"Calm it Princess." Adrien whispered into her ear, before turning back to his father. "Father, where would you like Marinette to go to get ready?"
"The hair and make up stylists are in your room Adrien, you can get yourself ready in one of the guest rooms. I'm guessing that is Adrien's suit which you are holding, Marinette?" Nathalie was making her way down the staircase and towards Marinette, arms stretched out for the garment bag.
"Y-y-yes." Marinette stuttered out. Adrien placed a hand on the small of her back, allowing his thumb to rub circles delicately, hoping to calm her down a little. Why did she always have to panic when everything she did may be a little unorthodox but always worked out in the end?
"Excellent. I'll take that. Adrien, take Marinette to your room and then come to the second guest room. Your suit will be waiting there for you."
Adrien turned to Marinette and offered her his arm. The smile he was radiating calmed her nerves down no end. What did she ever do without her kitty by her side?
Now, four weeks after their accidentally reveal Marinette could honestly say she'd never felt so settled and supported. Though, the time she was spending with Adrien could be seen as a little obsessive she wasn't going to let it get to her. Nobody knew what their lives entailed, no one had a clue what they were going through and for the first time in a long time she could genuinely smile. She didn't care what anyone else thought, there was a reason for their sudden development which involved nobody else, their little secret.
"I can't wait to see your dress. Fathers had it under lock and key, so I have no idea what to expect." Adrien was excited, very excited. Even though this wasn't exactly what a normal person would call a date, to him it was that and so much more, even if she didn't realise it. He was finally giving his lady a night out. She was going to be the girl on his arm, the one he would be dancing with tonight.
"It's amazing, Kitty. The last fitting I had it wasn't even finished and I swear I've never worn anything as perfect as this before in my life." Adrien opened his bedroom door and signalled to the stylists that Marinette was ready for them.
"Out you go, M. Agreste. We have been given strict orders from your father that you do not see Marinette until she is ready." The crazy green haired stylists pretty much chased him out the room, roller brush in hand.
"Ok, I'm going." He decided he was going to make a bold move. For once in his life, as Adrien, he was going to react as he wished and channel his inner Chat Noir.
Stepping forward towards Marinette he placed both hands on her waist and pulled her close. Her face created that lovely pink tinge he liked so much, as his lips met her cheek.
"I would not wish any companion in the world but you." His voice was sweet and sultry in her ear before he stepped away. "I'll see you downstairs."
He turned to leave and couldn't believe he just did that. Who in their right mind quotes Shakespeare these days? He felt a rumbled by his chest, and he knew straight away that Plagg was having the time of his life.
"Quit it!" Adrien hissed before hitting where he knew Plagg was laying.
"Oh Pigtails, I love you. Let me romance you with poetry and flowers, and show you the depths of my love. Oh wait ... you've been doing that for two years."
Adrien didn't usually dislike Plagg. He had put up with a lot from him, but at this very moment he would be happy to leave him here for the remainder of the night. Alone. Away from the party and ...
"If you don't stop you won't be coming tonight," Adrien announced."And?""No cheese," Plagg gasped, "no causing chaos", another gasp left Plagg's lips before Adrien hit the final nail in the coffin, "and no Tikki."
Plagg went into full meltdown, which would have been fine usually, however when they reached the guest room he was afraid his cover would be blown. For the first time in his life though, the bad luck of the black cat was no where to be found. The room was empty, except for his outfit for the evening hanging still in it's bag on the full length mirror.
"Right, lets have a look at this bad boy." Adrien made his way over to the suit bag and carefully pulled the zip to the bottom unveiling the contents stored so preciously beneath. The suit was black with slight silver shine within the material, some would almost say it looked slightly wet.
He began to pull off his outerwear and replace it with his MDC commission. He was still completely floored his father had allowed this, but with Marinette taking on an apprenticeship next week he had no doubt that this was a test. Thank god he knew she would pass it.
Over the past couple of weeks he was lucky enough to see her working on his design, though she blindfolded him when it came to the final fitting, apparently if she couldn't see her dress from his father, he wasn't seeing his suit. They would both go in completely blind.
Each item on clothing fit perfectly, and the tailoring was something he knew designers struggled with. Usually on shoots he'd end up being pinned together to make it look as though the shirt fit properly. However, the black one currently on his body was amazing. The perfect fit. He looked in the mirror from side to side, she actually was incredible. He knew he said it everyday, but wow!
Finishing the outfit, he placed his dress pants and jacket on, along with his black tie. The tie was magically, if you looked from a different direction the satin she had used glowed a faint green, a very Chat Noir green.
"I look gorgeous!"
"You look like a big head!" Plagg responded to his very vain owner.
"Now, now ... come and see your home for the evening." Adrien pulled back the jacket allowing Plagg to zip into his normal spot.
"She's added a cushion. Oh my - Adrien, please just hurry up and marry this girl."
Adrien let out a laugh.
"If only, Plagg."
He sighed as he looked at himself one more time. He looked amazing and she was who to thank for it. Not just because of the outfit, but because of the epic glow he'd walked around with since he found out his best friend was his Lady, and that he was deeply and utterly in love with her.
"We're just friends." He prepped himself before heading out of the door and down the stairs. As he reached the platform he stopped noticing a movement above him.
A slim, porcelain leg made its way towards him, and he swore he'd been transported into a Disney movie, as a Princess was descending the staircase from the opposite side. He couldn't help the expression on his face as he looked towards his date for the evening.
Just best friends, Agreste. Keep your mind out of the dirt, she doesn't like you like that.
Marinette continued to walk slowly down towards him, last thing she wanted to do was trip and end up in the emergency room this evening. She kept her focus on the stairs, watching her black stiletto's meet each step securely. The shoes were beautiful with green rhinestoned straps. One thick one across her lower foot and the other holding tightly onto her ankle.
Adrien began to look up her body. The dress was beautiful, mirroring the colours of his suit perfectly. His father had chosen a velvet with a slight green glitter running through the soft material. She had one arm completely covered ending with a fingerless glove over her right hand. Her full length skirt was split, allowing her the freedom to move her legs and walk without harm down the stairs.
Finally he met her face and the world stopped around him. Never in his life had he seen someone as beautiful as the woman standing before him. Her make up was subtle with emphasis around her eyes, and her luscious lips painted a flame thrower red. Her face was framed by her hair, trailing down her back in loose curls. She looked more a model than anyone he'd ever met before and he'd been in the business a long time.
As if sensing his eyes on her body, Marinette looked up. This was the biggest mistake she had made that day. Her eyes crashed into the depth of his green ones she completely missed her step sending her spiralling down the staircase and towards impending doom. Keeping her eyes tightly shut she braced herself for impact.
An impact with never arrived. Marinette opened her eyes and saw black with a slight hint of green.
"I've got you." Adrien had caught her. Of course he had. Adrien always caught her.
"Thank you." She whispered.
The two stared at each other, taking in every aspect of the others face. For what they both cared the evening could carry on without them. This was important. Them looking at each other was important.
A cough suddenly pulled them back into reality.
"The limo is waiting outside." Nathalie had positioned herself at the bottom of the staircase, watching the two with intrigue. Adrien and Marinette broke away from each other and straightened up their attire.
"You ready M'Lady?" Adrien grabbed Marinette's hand and placed a kiss on the back, very much like his alter ego.
"I am Chaton." The two laughed as Adrien led her down the staircase, holding her steady against himself as to restrict a secondary trip.
"They look good together." Nathalie mentioned to Gabriel.
"They do." He nodded in response, checking himself over one more time in the mirror before heading out to join the young couple.
"And you still think it's them?" She questioned.
"Oh, I'm positive. We're one step closer now. It won't be long until their Miraculous' are mine."
