Chapter 15: Wand Troubles (Or Staff Troubles)
(Omega)"Duin's castle has a special barrier that makes it look invisible. Just thought I'd mention it."
Days after the incident, Duin has tried many things to get the staff to work, but nothing he tried seemed to be successful.
(Duin)"Why the hell isn't this damn thing working!?"
He punched a hole the the wall.
(Toffee)"Perhaps it's because it's not powered by anything."
(Duin)"What?"
(Toffee)"The hole, there's supposed to be something there, clearly."
(Duin)"...I see."
(Toffee)"Now where do you suppose we get a power source in that shape?"
The Oozai closed his eye in thought, before coming to a conclusion.
(Duin)"There's a cave in the boneyard of the Nightmare Realm. The crystals inside have immense magical energy in them, but not as much as the Heart of course."
(Toffee)"Honestly, if you didn't have me around, you'd be lost in needless anger."
(Duin)"I just forgot about it, that's all."
(Toffee)"Whatever you say."
Duin tied the staff to his back, then used his teleportation magic to transport him and the Septarian to a massive field of bones.
(Omega)"Here's a list of all life that exists in the Nightmare Realm."
1: Whatever Tiny is.
2: Dinosaurs (These guys.)
3: Giant Fish (Like, some can be as big as fifteen whales...there's unlimited space in the realm.)
4: Oozai (Aside from William and Caram, don't have bones.)
5: Deku (Also no bones.)
6: Monsters (Generated from the negative energy given off by the Heart of the Oozai. Do have bones...sometimes. Not like the other normal monsters. Some are humanoid, like humanoid animals.)
7: Robots/ Cyborgs
8: This thing.
9: Dragons
10: Sugar Gliders (These cute little guys.)
11: Undead (All of the above. Skeletons, Zombies, and Ghost.)
Some were still in one piece, some were in large mountains, but most were scattered around.
(Omega)"There's a LOT of death going on here."
But most were in pieces littered across the ground. Toffee grabbed one of the skulls, then placed it on his right shoulder.
(Duin)"What are you doing?"
(Toffee)"I could use a replacement, after what happened all those years ago."
(Duin)"Hm, you can get a new one by ripping Moon's head off while we're burning everything that slightly mentions her existence."
(Toffee)"I'll be looking forward to it then."
(Duin)"Anyway, here's the cave."
He pointed to a large cave with an old sign that said, "Energy Crystal Mine"
(Toffee)"Oozai seem to give everything they have a basic, straight to the point name."
(Duin)"We aren't exactly the kind of people who give things flashy titles, unless they are deserving of it."
(Toffee)"I see."
They entered the mine. Duin used a magic orb to illuminate the cave walls for any signs of jewels, but there wasn't even a slight glimmer.
(Toffee)"They must've had the best luck in this mine, I can't seem to find one."
(Duin)"I can only sense one, in the very back, guess they missed a spot before they left."
The sound of their footsteps echoed through the old tunnels. Abandoned, dusty pickaxes and hats with lamps littered the dead ends, a few had machines with large drills in front. This was during the infancy of the Oozai machine age.
(Toffee)"Duin, I have to ask, what will you do now that Caram has left us? He know won't be so willing to let us further our plans."
(Duin)"That little brat can do whatever the hell he wants for now. It doesn't matter to me what he does, the only reason for his existence was to protect that soul."
(Toffee)"He seemed upset when he found out what was in store for him once we succeed. I think he started to cry when we left, I think he really...loved us."
(Duin)"That was expected from the very beginning. Children are known to grow attached to whoever looks after them in their infancy. It's natural instinct."
(Toffee)"I remember how many times I had to stop myself from calling him, 'Son'."
(Duin)"You did look after him the most."
(Toffee)"When he was only a few months old, he had much trouble learning to speak with his mouth being unable to open beyond the teeth for the longest time."
(Duin)"No too Oozai are the same, there's always something different to give each one a feeling of being unique."
(Toffee)"That's rather funny, sense 80% of them look the same, and wear the same clothing."
(Duin)"We like to keep small things simple and easy."
(Toffee)"Quite."
Suddenly, Duin's eye began to glow.
(Duin)"We're getting closer. The crystal should be in that chamber before us."
He pointed at a large open space that seemed to have light in it.
(Toffee)"That's strange, why is there light in there, but nowhere else?"
(Duin)"Stay sharp, we may not be alone after all."
They cautiously entered the chamber, where they saw that the room was much, much larger than they expected. Large piles of gold coins, golden bars, purple dollars, and non-magical jewels where glittering from a hold in the far ceiling.
(Omega)"The Oozai currency consist of gold, gems, and dollars with the Oozai logo."
(Toffee)"We're definitely not alone."
(Duin)"This abandoned mine must be a bandit's camp."
(Toffee)"Oh, is that the crystal you were talking about? Up there."
He pointed at a small, purple, heart-shaped jewel stuck in the chest of a statue of an Oozai.
(Duin)"Looks like it's just the right side for the staff."
(Toffee)"Convenient. Like it was destined to be."
Before they could go get it, an iron fence closed off the only opening, and dozens of grey Oozai came up from the gold, and surrounded the two. They all didn't have mouths, had yellow pupils, cracks were on their faces, and they wore leather clothing.
(Bandit)"Cage 'em up, boys!"
They threw their hands up, and many blue magic spikes erupted, and made sure that any openings were too small to squeeze out of.
(Bandit)"Hehehe, see that? It's Blue Magic! If you move even a quarter inch of a muscle, it'll hurt like hell going through your bodies!"
(???)"Not that it'll save you in the long run..."
Then, a huge, grey Oozai, about 8 feet tall, appeared from behind a large stalagmite. His head lumps were hidden by a horned helmet, which also hid his eyes, only showing his yellow pupils, he had two, long teeth sticking out of his bottom row. He also had on a old, torn, military uniform with the old Oozai logo on the chest.
(???)"After we take their belongings, we'll turn them into shish kabob."
(Bandit)"Hey, that staff looks pretty valuab-"
As he reached his hand out to grab the staff, Duin turned around, and promptly slapped his hand into the blue attack, burning the arm guard off, and leaving a burn mark on his wrist.
(Bandit)"Ah! Motherfffff*ck, that hurts!"
(???)"Wait a minute...I recognized you, you're Duin!"
(Duin)"Yeah, what about it?"
(Keta)"My name is Keta. I used to be the General of the Oozai army before Imor, known for my use of brute strength over magic. I was there at the Battle of Heartbreak!"
(Omega)"That's what they call the war between Duin and Zoozai."
(Keta)"When it looked like you were winning, I decided to switch sides, but when Zoozai got serious and completely wiped out your army in a single blast, he banished me and the only men loyal to me for betraying him!"
(Duin)"And how's that my issue?"
(Keta)"You made me lose my job!!!"
(Duin)"Sounds like a personal problem."
(Keta)"Oh, but you see, vengeance shall be had. After I kill you here, Zoozai will reward me handsomely! Maybe I-I'll even get my job back!"
He threw a punch at the Oozai, which stopped midway, and he was launched into the pile of gold.
(Duin)"Toffee, get something to fight with. This shouldn't be too long."
Without showing any pain, he broke each blue attack with his hand, each one disappeared in a cloud of dust. Soul glowing, he summoned his scythe.
(Duin)"Anyone who wants to die, step forward..."
One of the bandits charged at Duin, who without even moving, appeared behind the Oozai.
(Bandit)"H-How did he...do that...?"
That was the last thing he said, before his body fell to pieces.
(Bandit)"Get him!"
The other bandits went in for the attack. Duin swiftly dodged and spun his scythe at the Oozai, cutting their heads off, and cutting them in half at the hip. Toffee grabbed a sword from the gold pile, and viciously stabbed and slashed any Oozai that came tried to attack.
(Toffee)"It's always the weak who like to take on the strong..."
He said as he grabbed an Oozai's arm, ripped it off, and slapped him with it.
(Bandit)"This is insane! L-Lets get outta here!"
They dropped their weapons, and ran for the door.
(Duin)"You can't escape me."
He threw his scythe, and it sliced the remaining Oozai in half, then returned to his hand. Keta erupted from the gold, looking furious.
(Keta)"Bo wah vaaz hin yen vau!!!"
He ran at Duin with all his might, but before he could reach him, Duin swung at the air, creating several blades that cut off the Ex-General's arms and legs off.
(Keta)"Impossible...h-how did you...? Without any effort..."
(Duin)"Let me tell you a secret. Mindok hin staad, uv hi fen kos kriin ko hin borii laas."
Then, several magic spikes went through Keta's body, and his life ended.
(Duin)"It's always bandits who do it."
He walked up to the statue, and ripped the jewel off. When he placed it in the staff, it began to glow with magical energy.
(Duin)"This...this power!"
(Toffee)"What does it feel like?"
(Duin)"It's, channeling through me!"
(Toffee)"So, what's next?"
(Duin)"Next, I need to learn how to control it!"
