Chapter 3: Climate Change

5 years later

Miyah held up a camera and faced it towards her. "My life take one." She cut to the kitchen. "There goes my best friend Lexi making breakfast."

"What's up peeps!" She called out posing for the camera before going back to flipping pancakes.

"What do we got here chef Lexi?" Miyah asked smiling.

"Well I'm making my famous go to hell pancakes with some homework bacon for my dog."

Miyah laughed, "Your so stupid Lexi you don't even have a dog."

"Hey it ain't too late to adopt right?"

Lexi's mom walked into the kitchen. "Now Miyah go put that camera down and go help Alexis."

"Yes Ms. Michelson." Miyah called back. Miyah turned off the camera and set it on the table. "Remind me to cut your nonsense out of the video."

"As if that's comedy gold. Trust me stick with me and you'll get an A+ for sure." Lexi's said.

"Says the person who's failed English twice."

"It was once. The second time I got a C average."

"And you call that a accomplishment?" Miyah asked as she went to check on the bacon on the stove.

"For me it is." Lexi exclaimed.

"True." Miyah snuck a piece of bacon from the pan and grabbed the plates to set the table.

"What's that project even for anyway?"

"Ms. Hart said something about capturing the little moments in order to create a bigger voice of who you are."

"That's a lot of wisdom for one class." Lexi said.

"Yeah kind of. Ms. Hart's always been like that though." Miyah said.

"Hey didn't you say Davis was walking with us to school?" Lexi asked.

"Yeah he should be here soon." Miyah looked at the clock. It was 7:15a.m.

"I don't know why you don't just ask him out already you know he likes you."

Miyah laughed and placed out four plates. "He's just a friend we knew eachother since we were kids. There's definitely nothing happening between us."

"Yet." Lexi added. She walked up the table and placed a stack of pancakes on the table.

"Don't let me hurt you Ms. I'm in love with Danny Larson." Miyah joked.

"Shut up!" Lexi shoved Miyah almost making her drop the forks. "You just mad because he's a dream boat and he's crushing on me."

Miyah giggled and started placing down utensils. "You call waving at you once in gym class a sign that he's crushing?"

"There were others...I just don't remember them." Lexi lied.

"You do realize your a horrible liar right?" Miyah commented as she finished up and walked to the kitchen.

"Atleast I'm not little miss honesty all the time. You gotta learn to live a little Miyah break some rules. Come on why don't we ditch today and hang out at my secret hangout?" Lexi said excitedly.

"You have a secret hangout?" Miyah asked raising a eyebrow.

"What's this about a hangout?" They both turned and seen Lexi's dad reach over a take a piece of bacon off the plate. "You guys aren't trying to ditch school right?"

"No!" They both said simultaneously yet unconvincingly.

"Uh huh..." He looked suspicious but eventually shrugged it off. "Okay."

They looked at eachother and laughed. "Hey dad you should let me drive the car." Lexi said walking up to him.

"Haha very funny Lexi nice try though." He said as he sat down.

"You never give up do you." Miyah said as she walked over behind her.

"Come on dad you never let me drive." Lexi whined.

"Are you 16?" Her dad asked. Lexi went quiet. "Exactly."

"Dad age is just a number I'm ready I promise." Lexi begged.

"Maybe one day...I'll think about it okay." He said.

Suddenly there was a knock on the door. "Miyah Lexi open up!" He called. Lexi's mom opened the door. "Hey Mrs. Michelson." He rushed inside.

"Good to see you too Davis." She said sarcastically.

"Miyah Lexi you can't believe what I just found out!"

"Then why don't you just tell us?" Lexi said.

"You could ask nicely." Davis and Lexi always had a love hate relationship though Lexi claims to hate his guts.

He pulled out his computer out of his backpack and started typing. "What's so important that you had to tell us Davis?" Miyah asked.

"Have you noticed something strange in the air like it's a little harder to breath?" Davis asked his eyes glued to his laptop.

"Not really why?" Miyah asked.

"Well last night I did so I decided to check it out just for fun and it turns out a lot of small yet unusual hiccups have been happening to the weather."

"So what?" Lexi said uninterested.

"Yeah Davis it's not really breaking news for something weird to happen around here." Miyah added.

"But this isn't the only place Miyah. A city in Africa experienced red clouds, pouring rain, high air elevation, even random outburst and massacres all with similar abnormal changes. Its even been recorded to have snowed there."

"Snowed in Africa that's insane." Lexi's dad said.

"Dad don't listen to him he's probably just lying how could it snow in Africa it's like 200 degrees there."

"93.0 degrees Fahrenheit on average but that's not the point it's crazy that this happened and no one bothered to investigate anything about it."

"Here we go with the government conspiracies again..." Miyah whispered to Lexi.

"Davis when did you become such a nerd?" Lexi asked.

"Lexi!" Miyah hit her.

"What it's true." Lexi said.

"You know what fine forget I said anything but when I'm proved right you guys owe me big time."

"Yeah whatever can we eat now?" Lexi sat down.

"Oh snap you guys made pancakes!" Davis threw his bag down and sat down in Mrs. Michelson's seat. She gave him a dirty look.

"I'll get another plate." Miyah said and went to the kitchen.

"We don't take kindly to laptops on the dinner table mister." Lexi's mom said strongly.

"Sorry ma'am." Davis bellowed.

Miyah walked back to the table with a plate and fork and sat it down. "Thank you Miyah." She shot a look at Davis before sitting down but he didn't even notice.

Miyah looked at Davis's bag. "Davis why do you have a stuffed animal on your-" She looked at it and suddenly remembered the same stuffed rabbit in her vision with the note that said 'My name is Mr. Greg I'm your friend.'

"Hmm?" Davis looked down. "Oh my sister found it and gave it to me. I wanted to throw it away but my mom said that's rude and considerate."

"Atleast someone thinks so." Lexi's mom coughed.

Davis looked at Miyah. "You okay you look kind of pale?"

Miyah shook her head, "Yeah I'm fine."

"Yeah I know it looks crazy beat up." He stuffed the stuffed animal in his bag and Miyah sat down with a headache.

After they finished breakfast they got their bags and headed out the door. "Later mom!" Lexi called.

"Bye Mrs. Michelson." Miyah called.

"Have fun you guys."

"Since when is school fun?" They grabbed their bikes and rode to school.

*_~~~*_~~~_*

"Last period of the day you ready to have some real fun?" Lexi whispered over to Miyah.

"You know I am." Miyah and Lexi fistbumped.

"Miyah Alexis no side conversations thank you." The teacher instructed.

"Sorry Mr. Lenox." They both said.

Suddenly the whole class gasped. "What you never heard a rebel say sorry before?" Lexi asked raising an eyebrow.

"Um Lexi I don't think their gasping at you..." Miyah said slowly.

"What do you mean?" Lexi looked towards the window. "Holly mother of..."

"Is that snow?" One student asked.

"That can't be snow! How could it be snow in Georgia?!"

"Miyah...are you seeing what I'm seeing..."

"If your seeing a snow storm in the middle of 100 degree heat then yeah..." Miyah responded speechless.

Everyone crowded to the window as the snow fell outside. The sky what completely grey and cars stopped completely as the Georgia became a winter wonderland.

"We shouldn't of doubted Davis..." Miyah said unable to take her eyes off the window.

"Yeah that know it all has his moments..."

"Thank you."

We jumped back and seen Davis behind us. "What the hell Davis! You almost scared us to death!" Lexi yelled.

He laughed, "I came straight away after I seen the snow. Can't hate to say I told you so."

"Yeah don't pat your back too much." Lexi said.

"Okay were listening tell us everything. What happens now...now that your right..." Miyah asked looking at him.

"If all my calculations and theories are correct then there should be a major change in migration patterns, fluctuations in cloud and oxygen, shift in-"

"Get to the point know it all!" Lexi shouted.

"Alright alright fine calm down. The climate change could only mean one thing."

"Which is?" Miyah asked.

"A storm is coming..."

Suddenly a man busted in the classroom. "Hey stop that man!" The security yelled from the hallway.

"Miyah Elise..." The man called.

Miyah looked up along with everyone else and she stepped forward cautiously. "Yes?"

The man had torn closes and he held his side weakly. He seemed frantic and nervous. "I have a message for you...she's coming for you." The security grabbed him and put his arms behind his back revealing a bloody wound on his chest bleeding through his shirt.

Miyah looked at him and walked towards him. "Who's coming?" She asked.

"Kimberly..." The security pulled the guy away. "She's coming! She's coming for us all and our world will crash from her might!" The man shouted frantically.

Miyah suddenly remembered her nightmare when she was younger of the girl playing the piano that said her name was Kimberly. Flashes of the nightmare came into her head causing her to get painful migraines.

She stumbled backwards and fell to the floor. "Miyah!" Lexi shouted.

"Call the nurse!"

"Miyah look at me! Miyah!" She passed out.
