A Promise

(Y/n)'s POV
"So what's in the box?" I asked Master Skywalker as we walked side by side towards the docking area where we were told to meet Senator Amidala. I had my two bags packed, one in each hand, and he had one bag over his shoulder with a closed black box in his hands. It was pretty too and had designs made out of glass on the outside.

He side-eyed me, "Don't worry about it." He mumbled before looking straight ahead at our ship. We still had a small distance to go, but I could already make out the silhouette of what I suspected to be the Senator, her clothes were more extravagant than the rest around her. I wonder if she knows that she's meant to be inconspicuous, because bright orange is definitely not the proper color for that.

Deciding to tease him, I nudged his shoulder, "Is it for the Senator?" I batted my lashes, earning me another side glance, this one filled with more irritation than the last, "I saw how you reacted when her name was mentioned, does someone have a crush?"

He breathed a scoff that turned into a laugh as he fully turned his head to look down at me, "No this is not for her and no I don't have a crush on her. I'm just not thrilled about spending time around her since we don't get along very well - she happens to hate me."

I gasped in fake surprise, "She hates you? You? How can that be? You're so like-able." I said in a condescending tone, earning me harsh push against my shoulder with his and a mumbled 'shut the hell up.'

"Just be good and don't give her any reasons to give me a hard time, alright?" He said low as we approached the Senator who was in the middle of a conversation with her hand-maiden, a warm smile on her face.

"Yes Master," I responded as I stood tall and professional, showing that I really was excited to be on my first assignment in months.

As soon as the words left my lips, both women looked in our direction and the Senator smiled at me, "Hi you must be one of my protectors," She held her hand out, which I politely accepted, "It's so nice to meet you."

"It's nice to meet you too Senator, I'm Padawan (y/l/n), assigned to protect you alongside-"

"I know who he is," She cut me off as she shot him a side-glance, "Hello Ani." Her tone was dripping with hostility as she released my hand and picked up her own bag from the floor before he could. I'm curious as to what he did to earn such malice from a woman who seems so sweet.

"Senator," He addressed her with a sigh as he followed her up the ramp, completely avoiding eye contact with her as I strutted by his side.

"Ani, that's so cute I think I might start calling you that," I teased as he closed the ramp behind us and dropped his bag onto the metal floor.

He then pointed at me with his gloved finger, nearly poking my nose, "Don't even think about it, it makes me feel like a damn child." He snapped, "I'm Master, Master Skywalker, or Anakin to you." He dropped his hand and walked past me to get to the pilot seat. The Senator walked to the back of the cockpit with her hand-maiden to put their stuff down.

I raised a brow as I dropped my bags on the floor next to his, "You'll let me call you by your first name?" Not many Masters would allow that, it seemed strange to me.

He shrugged without looking at me, "If you want to, sometimes being called Master reminds me of-" He paused as he flipped a few switches and roared the ship to life, "It doesn't matter, but those are your options. And if you do call me that absurd nickname, I won't take you to the meadows as I promised." He threatened, taking a seat in the pilots chair.

I had told him on our walk over here about how I was hoping to have at least one of our training sessions in a field of flowers, and he actually agreed, "Okay fine," I said in defeat, although I was curious about what he was going to say at first, but something told me not to pry. He was in a decent mood, for him, and I didn't want to ruin it.

"So," Senator Amidala spoke as she walked to the front of the ship, "Do you know where we're going?" She asked him as she stopped by my side, with her hands resting in-front of her elegantly.

She really is one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen, and it seemed so effortless too - I was almost envious. Sometimes I wonder what life would have been like if I was a normal girl who got to wear whatever I liked and did whatever I wanted. This life is the only life I've ever known, my identity was already chosen for me before I could form words.

My Master nodded without looking at her, "I do, Master Yoda gave me the location. We'll be there in an a few hours and it is there I would like you to brief me on your recent attacks." He said in a professional manner as he got the ship ready for take off.

The Senator eyed him for a moment with an expression I couldn't place before sighing and looking at me, a smile now on her face, "(y/n) would you like to join Moteé and I-"

"She's staying up here with me," My Master cut her off before pointing at the empty pilot seat next to him, "Sit." He commanded me.

We both looked at him in surprise by his strict and unreasonable outburst, "But Master-"

"No buts," He turned around in the chair to glare at me. But his expression wasn't as angry as I expected it to be, he looked more uncomfortable than anything else, "Just stay up here and mediate or something, until we get there. And Senator, please go in the back with Moteé, I'll let you know when we've arrived."

If I didn't know any better, I'd say he was purposely trying to keep us apart - the only question is, why?

Senator Amidala looked like she was ready to put up a fight, but her hand-maiden Motee placed her hand on her shoulder, "Come with me Ms.Amidala, I need to change the bandage on your shoulder." Both my Master and I looked at the Senator's shoulder, barely noticing the white bandage that hugged the spot just above her collarbone.

But before either of us could ask about it, Amidala nodded and turned to walk towards the back with Motee by her side, "I'll ask about it during the brief," My Master said aloud to answer my curious thoughts, "All I know at the moment is that someone is trying to kill her to stop her from speaking out against the corruption in the banking clan."

I knitted my brows as I sat in the co-pilot chair as he requested moments ago, "There's corruption in the banking clan?" They're the ones funding this war on both ends and if they're corrupted, meaning they're favoring a side - this could end badly for a lot of us.

He shrugged as he raised the ship from the ground, "According to Senator Amidala yes, but I don't know the whole story so don't ask me any questions," He sighed as he rode the ship into space and I gazed out at the stars. I've been up in space so many times, more times than I could count, and I have never gotten over how beautiful it can be, "So our job is to keep her safe and alive for the next week or so until the next senate meeting." He finished explaining the synopsis of our mission, thankfully. I was in the dark about why we were protecting her up until now.

"So we'll only be out there for a week?" I questioned, to which he nodded as a reply.

He put the coordinates into the ship and set it to hyperspace. Then with a heavy sigh he leaned back in his chair and folded his arms while placing his feet on top of the dashboard, "Wake me when we're almost there," He yawned.

I narrowed my eyes, "If you're just going to sleep then why can't I go sit with the Senator? If we're gonna be with her for at least a week then I want to get to know her."

"No," He answered bluntly, "You don't need to be alone with her, all you girls do when you're together is gossip." He huffed without opening his eyes as he leaned his head to the side for comfort, "I'd rather you be up here where you can work on your meditation or take a nap yourself, I don't care."

I raised a brow as I turned my chair so I was fully facing him and I crossed my legs, "Is that what this is about? You're worried she's going to tell me whatever it is you did to get her to hate you?"

His eyes snapped open and with his fit he turned his chair to face me as well, "What makes you think it's something that I did?"

I shrugged, "I mean, this might come as a surprise to you, but you're kind of a jerk so I wouldn't put it past you to push her buttons." He sure as hell pushes mine, more than anyone ever has and I've barely known him for two days.

His jaw clenched as he sat up straight, "Sorry to disappoint your theory, but she's the one at fault, not me."

"Well what did she do?" I asked with knitted brows.

He looked away, out towards the hyperspace lights, "She made a nine year old a promise that she couldn't keep," He said low, his tone filled with sorrow, "That's all you need to know, now shut up and stay put while I take a nap, my head still hurts." He turned his chair back and closed his eyes with a quiet exhale. I almost forgot that he was still hungover, that would explain his slow and quiet attitude.

I rolled my eyes, "Stop telling me to shut up." I groaned in annoyance, leaning back as he did and closing my eyes. I may have had a good nights rest, but a little extra sleep can't hurt, especially since I'm not sure if I'll be getting much sleep while on this assignment.

I wanted to ask him more about what he said too, since it left me with even more questions, but knowing him, he'll just tell me to shut up again. I'll find out at some point this week though, I'll make it my little side mission.

"Well maybe if you actually did shut up once in awhile, I wouldn't have to tell you to." He sneered, prompting me to shoot my eyes open to glare at him. The urge to choke him was way more tempting than it should be.

Maybe just a little won't hurt..

I subtly pressed my thumb and index finger together to give a slight squeeze on his windpipe - not hard enough to actually hurt him or anything but just enough to give his some discomfort.

Seconds later he burst out into a loud cough and I quickly released the small hold I had on him, and pretended to be the innocent sweet girl that I am, "Oh my god, are you okay?" I asked with fake sympathy.

"Yeah," He answered as he continued to cough and clear his throat, "I'm good," He said with the look of bewilderment on his face, he had no idea what just happened, "Just a weird tickle in my throat." He cleared his throat a last time, before closing his eyes once more to get back to his rest.

I smirked as I closed my eyes and folded my arms, before doing it just one more time for my own entertainment. So once again he started coughing to relieve the the tension in his throat, and my smile grew as I said, "Can you shut up, I'm trying to sleep."

Hope you liked it babes ❤️
