The Takeover
Voices. That’s all I can really remember. Peculiar little voices that shouted out as if they wanted to save me from what was coming. It truly was a horrid end to a day indeed. The beginning was beautiful day. Something you’d see in pictures. The sky was a crystal blue, not one cloud tried to block the warm sun's rays. Though I could hardly tell because of the fact that I had my curtains drawn so that I could see the T.V. screen better.
Who could blame me for wanting to play the new video game I had gotten? I mean it was Deception II: Rise of the Cosmos! Who wouldn’t play that?! But, that awesomeness aside. I had just gotten to level 16 when my controller zapped me. I yelped in pain as a dropped the controller onto the floor. My hand was a little red and stung like it was on fire. ‘That’s peculiar.’ I thought as I was about to picked it up again when my mother said, “Marcus! It’s time for lunch! Get off that game of yours and come eat!”
I sighed, saved my game, and threw away the controler. It was old and was probably just broke. It wasn’t like I couldn’t get another one tomorrow. As I walked down the stairs I could smell baked chicken, mashed potatoes, and corn. A perfect lunch for a November day. When I sat down to eat my mother sat across from me and we dug in. Well, at least I did. Mothers are always so pristine and always use those dumb manners of theirs.
Well, while we were eating I started to hear a faint buzzing noise. Kinda like stattinc. “I told you father to fix that dumb air condition.” My mom said, as she stood. “I’ll be right back.” and she was gone. Leaving me to finish my meal alone for a bit. Though it wasn’t two, maybe three, minutes after she left did I hear her scream. Then I heard her tumble down the stairs. I sprang up to go help her. When I rounded the corner I saw what she was screaming about.
Holding her in a tight grip was my controller, the wires were around her thin neck. I pulled at it by the plastic part trying not to get shocked again, but that seemed to just be making it worse for my mother. That’s when I ran into the kitchen to get a knife. I cut off the wires and helped my mom up. Her neck was raw and red. “Mom, you okay?” she nodded.
The controller began to shake, as if it was coming out of a daze, and got up. Using it’s wires as legs. I held the knife in front of me. “S-stay back! I’m warning ya!” I said, trying to sound tough. But it just kept coming. I tried to though the knife at it, but I missed. That’s when it picked up the knife and kept coming towards us. So we did what any rational person would do. We screamed and ran for our lives down the streets of London.
As I looked around I saw others coming out of their homes as they were being chased. I only stopped for a moment when I was hit with a peculiar object. It was a shoe, my mother’s shoe. When I turned to look at who threw it there was my mother she had fear stricken across her face. I was confused and when I turned back something grabbed into me. I never felt it. The sharp knife piercing my flesh. My mother’s frantic screams mixed with the others. I hit the ground with a thud and everything went black.
