DEAD BODY IN THE OVAL OFFICE

©2017, Olan L. Smith

"Smithson opened the door to the Oval Office and stopped in his tracks, before him lay the body of an old woman, who she was, he had no idea. He was expecting to meet Dianne Menisci for the transfer of power to him. He turned to his Secret Service agent and told him to find out who was last in the office. He replied that Representative Menisci came in about an hour ago. He checked the sign in sheet and sure enough, he witnessed her signature on the form. He and his agent approached the body. They did not touch her, but viewed her from all angles and then they knew the white haired corpse was Dianne Menisci. Within ten minutes, the office was swarming with Secret Service, Homeland Security, the CIA, and the FBI. Smithson knew that there was no way of containing the story, now, and the cover-up was unraveling. With twenty-four hour news nothing stayed secret long, soon the cable and internet news would be all over this. The Security Council having heard of the matter had arrived at the Oval Office, and James Smithson was quickly sworn-in as the new President of the United States of America, as Hammett had already sent in his letter of resignation to the Secretary of State, earlier.

Secretary of State McDowell walked into the Oval Office and walked immediately to the aged body of Menisci, who had just an hour ago had walked out of the Security Council meeting. She looked at her, still slumped over the President's desk as though she simply died of old age. McDowell's own husband died suddenly, and this reminded her of how fragile life was, but also reminded her that everything happened for a reason. She was devastated when he died but in a dream she received her first visit from her guide, who informed her that the death of her husband would catapult her to power. She had been privy to the entire goings on of the political processes during her husband's reign as Senator. When the time came see ran for her husband's seat and receive over sixty percent of the vote from her district, and she never looked back. When Hammett appointed her Secretary of State she never felt such an honor in her life, her guides were correct.

She was a natural and became an instant leader for the nation. Now, she is standing in the Oval Office beside the corpse of Dianne Menisci, Leader of the House of Representatives. She wondered about what her guide had said to her long ago, "It is necessary for welfare of the nation." She contemplated, are we dealing with a spiritual or inter-dimensional dilemma, and decided it was time to talk to Pope John-Paul III, in person.

She called Director Morgan over to her. "What do you think we have here?"

"I am at a loss of words, Madam Secretary. This seems to be like what happened to the President. I am not sure, but I believe Levi has been here and somehow his presence caused the human body to age drastically. You know more about Levi Jackson than any of us. How is this possible?"

"That is the question that fate has put upon us, Director Morgan. The only comparison I know of is in the Bible, but it is not quite the same. Turn off the lights for a moment, please." Director Morgan informed everyone he would be turning off the lights in the room, and as their eyes adjusted to the darkness Mrs. McDowell said, "Look at her face, it is glowing." Everyone looked, it glowed with a dull ultraviolet patina, much like a black light. "Director Morgan, what causes such a glow?"

"That is ultraviolet radiation, whatever was in here it sucked the life out of her. She must have had a much longer exposure than the President did."

"Mr. President, I must go to the Vatican City and speak to the Pope, immediately. All the theologians we have contacted all disagree with one another. Some believe it is the end of days, other believe it is the act of Satan, while others believe it is an elaborate hoax by the Arab extremist to soften us up before an attack on our homeland."

"I will take care of your trip plans; meanwhile we have to tell the people something."

"Well, Mr. President, I recommend you tell the truth and make it seem that we are on top of it all. I can only recommend honesty, and that is my best thoughts on the matter. Partial truth is better than a total outright lie, and you can wing it on the questions. As for my whereabouts, if they ask, tell them I am on a world mission to create a United World Defense, which is not a lie."

FBI Director Morgan walked over to the two leaders standing alone, "Mr. President, I believe I have a defense against Levi Jackson. A way we can both neutralize his power, and let us capture him. I believe if we set a trap he will have a feeling he needs to see you, and then we will capture him."

The newly sworn in President answered, "That is easy for you to say, but you won't be sitting in my chair. We cannot risk it. We've lost a President and the Speaker of the house, and I am not making it a threesome." I suggest that you make your plans to include yourself, and if we lose you. Well, so be it. Are you willing to put yourself in that situation, Director Morgan?"

Director Morgan thought for a moment and replied, "Yes, I am willing to sacrifice my life for my country, sir."

"Then go ahead with the plan and make it so. As, for me I have a public swearing in, and then I have to give the most important speech of my life. Secretary McDowell, are you still here. Shouldn't you be packing to get on Air-force two?"

"Yes, Mr. President I am on my way, goodbye and good luck.

"I will say a prayer for you, as you travel," replied the President.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you, sir. It could be counterproductive to our cause."

The President turned to take care of the concern of the Oval Office as he wondered what Secretary McDowell meant by that. Then he remembered about what she had told him earlier, "... carefully, guard your thoughts."
