Liam shut the heavy book with a loud thud and stretched his limbs to get the blood flowing in them again. After checking his watch, he realized he had been sitting in the library for far too long, 6 hours to be exact, and decided it was finally time to head back to the hostel and sleep.

The university's library was almost empty except for a couple of students scattered here and there who were probably just like him; a sickler for studies. Liam gathered all of his books and began stuffing them into his bag as he made his way out of the library.

The university grounds were deserted, as was expected considering it was 11 pm, but Liam still felt a little creeped out by the darkness and quietness, the only light coming from the street lamps that lined the road in front of the library.

The shrill ringing of his phone made him jump a little, but Liam recovered quickly and fished the phone out of his pocket, while also struggling with the books that he was still shoving in his bag.

He smiled as he saw the caller ID and answered the phone before wedging it between his right ear and shoulder while he busied his hands balancing the books and his bag.

"Hey Scarlett, what's up?" Liam said cheerfully on the phone.

"Hey! Yeah, I just wanted to confirm something," he heard Scarlett from the other line.

"Yeah, shoot." Liam got closer to the road, his attention on Scarlett.

"We're still on for the movie tomorrow, right?" Scarlett asked hopefully.

"Yeah, of course!" Liam said, still struggling with his books. Damn it, why are they so heavy?! He thought to himself.

As soon as Liam took a couple of steps on the road, his attention divided between Scarlett and his books, a car whizzed past him, almost knocking him off his breath. A book had fallen from his hands as bent to pick it up, silently cursing the driver.

In the midst of all the confusion and Liam's flustered state, he didn't notice a second car that was fast approaching.

"Great, I'll see you tomorrow at 5 then?" Scarlett confirmed excitedly.

"Yea-" Like a deer caught in the headlights, Liam looked at the car for a full second before it slammed into him, effectively cutting off anything he wanted to say.

Time seemed to have slowed down when the impact of the car threw Liam across the length of the road. He felt numb from the blinding pain that covered every inch of his body. Liam couldn't feel his legs or arms as he tried to shift.

He could tell his body was twisted gruesomely, books scattered around him. Could feel the blood trickling from his body to the ground. The car had stopped a few feet behind him, the engine shut off.

The air was filled with Liam's low groans. A few feet away his phone lay, screen shattered but still functional. Scarlett was still on the line, asking something he couldn't make sense of.

"Liam? Liam! Please talk to me! Is everything okay? I heard something. Please, please answer me, please..." Scarlett's voice was frantic. "Please tell me you're okay-" her voice broke at the end. Cold fear had gripped her heart in a vice grip and she was unable to shake off the feeling that something horrible had happened. Because it had.

Liam slowly and excruciatingly turned his head to the source of Scarlett's voice, his heart exploding into little pieces as he heard the panic in it. An overwhelming urge to cry washed over him as he laid there helplessly, staring at the phone longingly.

But even his vision abandoned him as blood trickled into his eyes.

Moments later, he heard the car door open and the heavy footsteps of someone approaching him.

Maybe he could still be saved?

However, the person just stood there, doing nothing. Liam heard the footsteps retreating back as his heart started to beat even faster than before. His breathing became quick and he started to lose consciousness as realization finally dawned on him; They are going to leave me alone, to let me bleed to my death.

He didn't know how wrong he was.

Eric wrenched open the car door as he sat down on the driver seat. His mind had gone numb, but his heart was racing a mile a minute. He stared ahead, at the young boy quietly wailing in agony. His groans replayed in his head over and over again, haunting him.

"Liam," A voice from the phone had called him.

Eric had hit Liam.

His breaths came out shallow and quick as he realized what this could mean for him, for his career, his future... everything he had worked so hard for.

Eric gripped the steering wheel with both hands, his eyes trained on the figure lying in his own blood in the middle of the road.

"The boy is as good as dead," Eric thought, "Why go through the hassle of calling the police and ambulance?" His palms started sweating. "Hit and run incidents happen all the time. Yeah, calling an ambulance would be useless," he convinced himself, a sick feeling already crawling in his stomach.

Eric started the engine and took a deep breath before flooring the accelerator and aimed for the body. "Thank God he's facing the other way," he thought.

Eric squeezed his eyes shut as his car drove over Liam but still felt the bones crunching sickeningly under the weight of the car.

He didn't stop the car until it was a good mile away from the body. Screeching his wretched car to a halt, Eric ripped the door open and vomited all over the road beneath him.

After puking his guts out, he leaned back in his seat as tears threatened to fall from his eyes.

What had he done?

Levi's question rang in Scarlett's mind as she sat there, breathless and in shock. How does he know?

"Well?" Levi probed. "Care to tell everyone why you killed Eric and Carter?" He asked Scarlett in a calm voice.

Scarlett felt everybody's gaze on her, but Emma's and Anthony held the most weight. She licked her lips as her whole body sweated.

"I-" Scarlett began before stopping. What am I supposed to say? She wondered as her heart pounded away. I've been caught. So she relented and said the first thing that came to her mind.

"H-his name was Liam," Scarlett started speaking, her voice thick from emotion. "Liam wasn't my boyfriend," she said shaking her head, catching everybody off-guard.

"He was my brother," She said softly, "My baby brother." She smiled through unshed tears. "And Eric murdered him brutally," Scarlett said Eric's name with disgust.

Emma and Anthony were speechless, their minds couldn't wrap around the myriad of information thrown their way in such a short time.

"I was on the call with him when it all happened. I literally heard my baby brother die," Scarlett's voice was shaking, and tears began pooling in her eyes. "Eric, that bastard, ran over him. I heard him do that, heard the car run over him, heard his last scream,"

Scarlett was breathing heavily as she felt anger build up inside of her again, threatening to consume her.

"Of course, I didn't know who it was. I immediately called the police and informed them that an accident had happened at the university. Thank God I knew where Liam was," Scarlett sniffled, unable to control her tears as they flowed freely down her face.

"Imagine my surprise when I found out it was Eric. And then imagine my shock when I found out that the case was closed because his father had fed money to the right people to keep their mouths shut!" Scarlett screamed as she furiously wiped her tears.

"What the hell was I to do? The justice system is corrupt. It almost drove me to madness. Liam's groans and his last scream haunted every second of my day!"

Scarlett turned to Emma, "You must remember when I was MIA for a long time from May till July," she addressed her.

Emma only nodded slowly, her eyes wide as she processed everything.

"Anyway," Scarlett took a deep breath. "I decided to take justice in my own hands. Call me whatever, but I couldn't let my brother's killer roam freely.

"I can't explain how hard it was to control myself from wrapping my hands around Eric's neck and squeeze the life out of that pathetic excuse of a human every time I saw him," she spat.

Anthony's breath hitched in his throat at Scarlett's harsh words. It all made sense to him now. And even though he didn't agree with Scarlett's method of justice, he understood where she came from.

"This whole trip was designed so I can rid the world from that monster. I constructed the perfect plan, took care of all the details. I had planned to suffocate him with a pillow so that he dies slowly, but then I discovered he took meds.

"A little research told me that they were lethal when taken with alcohol, but I knew Eric had stopped drinking after the incident. So, I slipped an idea into Emma's mind; to make a toast to our 'friendship'." Scarlett took a deep breath to calm down, her fate was decided anyway, and she had come to terms with it.

"I made it so that Emma felt it was her idea, and hence she would be commencing it. I needed to be sure that Eric would drink, and Emma was the key to that. He never said no to her," Scarlett said bitterly.

"And then Carter... I really felt bad for killing him. But it was important. He caught me sneaking Eric's meds back in his room, and he figured it out in an instant.

"I couldn't go to jail... and I didn't think I even deserved to go for killing Eric. But after I choked Carter to death... that feeling perished. He was innocent after all," Scarlett said softly.

"I feel horrible for killing him. I've accepted that I'm going to go to jail, and I'm okay with it. I took an innocent life after all." She was eerily calm about it. Her calmness and the absence of emotion astonished others, even herself. "I'm at peace now that I know Liam's death is avenged," she whispered.

The whole time, Scarlett hadn't looked at anybody. But she looked up and met everyone's eyes. Nobody said a word though, they were shocked into speechlessness. Anthony was the first one to speak.

"But Scarlett... How-I don't understand... I-I didn't know you had a brother," Anthony frowned deeply as he asked the question that plagued his mind. "Weren't you an only child?"

"Oh! Before Scarlett's answers, I need her to answer my question first. It'll make more sense that way and this whole revelation can plan out just the way I wanted it to," Levi said nonchalantly, earning him a glare from his wife.

"Scarlett, very courageous and bold of you to admit to everything without burning the place down, but tell me this," Levi paused as he leaned forward and narrowed his eyes as he looked directly into hers, "You weren't the only one responsible for killing Eric, right?"

Levi heard a round of murmurs as everybody sat alert once more.

"Tell everybody who the other person is. Who helped you kill Eric?"
