The fight

I sighed as another obstacle stood in my way. I needed to get back to my room as fast as i can and dye my hair before Alan arrives. We also have to escape before lord Jaden closes all exits.

Reaching the room, I sighed in relief when I found it empty. Quickly dying my hair, I deemed my disguise satisfactory. Gathering our bags I reached the door only for it to open with a bang second time that day.

Cursing my luck, I clenched my eyes shut knowing there was no escape. When nothing happened I opened them to peek through my lashes only to find Alan in front of me with a raised eyebrow.

'He's here.'

'In flesh?'

'In flesh.'

Sighing I smeared dirt on his face, grabbed his hand and dragged him behind me ignoring his protest. Mounting on our horses we left the town behind without even a backward glance.

"They have it really bad here." He informed like I already wasn't aware of their situation.

"There's nothing we can do about it."

"Can't we?" He inquired.

"Why are you trying to play with fire. You know very well how this might end."

"They are innocents......."

"So are we." I bitterly reminded him.

"We could plan and come up with something....."

I didn't let him finish, "Against Vampires, as in plural. You really have a death wish , no? If so count me out." Closing the argument I left him standing there beside the narrow stream.

After our grand escape we travelled for some time and when we were sure that the Vampires were no longer following us, we decided to take refuge in this small village called 'Brenea'. Strange place, strange names.

But we came face to face with another problem. This village was being attacked by some vampires. No matter where you go these vampires will never leave you alone. They were like a plague.

I can't risk helping these people. We are up against vampires and they don't easily surrender. If one dies, surely the others would seek revenge.

After spending some night restlessly, I reluctantly told Alan to gather men for fighting, much to his amusement.

"Are you sure they'll attach tonight." Was inquired for umpteenth time.

"Next one to ask ask me this question will find him self as a bait for Vampires." That shut them up." And to answer your question, yes. And before you ask let me tell you there's a pattern which no one paid attention to."

The cycle consist of fifteen days. The attacks are on the first day, then after five, after four and then ends on the fifth day, completing the cycle. That makes four attacks every fifteen days. Since the last attack was three days ago, they'll attack today. Now we've to be really careful not to be seen. You all stay on the roofs and shoot the arrows when the signal is given. Just aim and shoot, don't think otherwise this all will go to waste." I explained with patience.

"How'll the arrows hurt them, they never worked before."

"They are made of wood and were soaked in garlic paste for good measure. Don't know if the later works but it's better to be prepared rather than sorry."

"And you?" One of them asked curiously.

"Me?"

"Don't be stupid and answer the question." He huffed.

"Mind your own business." I replied snidely,my patience running thin.

"Don't act recklessly." Advice Alan.

"Back to you."

"You'll be the death of me." He murmured and shook his head.

Skillfully hiding in the alley, my dark cloak allowed me to mold in with the darkness. The comforting weight of the sword, bought from the stollen coins , on my side gave me courage to face the trouble.

Speak of the devil.

They entered the village without a care, laughing loudly and deciding the possible preys among them. I mentally sneered. They were weak. Far weaker than I had thought. Winning might be possible if the fates were on our side.

As the group passed beside the ally, I jumped on the last one. Covering his mouth, I thrust the wooden through his heart and killed him instantly.

One down six to go. I thought while hiding his body in the ally.

The same fate another three of them reducing their numbers to three. These Vampires were weaker and had nothing on 'Him'. They didn't even notice their fallen numbers.

Arriving in the middle of the village they got cranky. Not a single life was in their sight. In the shadow of the night, the village seemed almost haunted.

Quickly taking my position I signaled for the attack and instantly wooden arrows were showered on them, killing another of them.

Must be drunk. I thought at the easy kill.

Killing another one I realized that one had escaped without anyone noting. Well then better move before he brings reinforcements.
