Chapter 25: More researches, more clues, more Simba
Leon cleared his throat, "We found that in a security camera on one of the cafe's nearby."
"Didn't you report it to the police?" I asked, "They could've investigated this."
"They're gonna ask us questions; too many." Lawrence said, "Besides, they're lazy little fucks and we can do their job a thousand percent better than them."
"And what did you deduce from that?" I asked them, sitting back down on the desk.
"Well, we looked at the time in the camera and it was about quarter to five. We asked the hospital when Xander was brought in and they said it was around five o'clock." Lawrence explained, "I forgot to mention, the accident is not that far from here, and not far from your high, however, it was a shortcut around a bit secluded area. There was only the cafe, which was closed that day, and a few houses. So we couldn't quite find any key witnesses. It seems that the two of you were going back here."
"It's a security camera, right? So you guys must have saw a footage of me being taken away or suddenly regaining conscious and going to a hospital that my brother's somehow present in?"
"First of all, the latter is not physically, scientifically possible. Wait, is it?" Lawrence turned to his brother, "Is it?"
"Well, considering that Dayana received more impact from the crash than Xander and even Xander couldn't do that, I'd say no." He replied.
"Wait, I received more impact? Why?"
"Well, according to Xander, when you saw the truck about to crash to the both of you, you hugged him, covering most of him from the glass and impact of the truck." Leon replied.
I pursed my lips. Did I really care that much about Xander?
"Hey, back to my question, didn't the cameras take footage of someone taking me away or something?" I asked.
"That's the thing. It seems that after you guys crashed, the camera turned to another direction. It's as if somebody manipulated it so that we couldn't see." Leon explained.
"Yeah, after a few minutes, the camera pointed back and revealed only Xander. A few minutes later, an ambulance and police." Lawrence added.
"Damn, were we the ones overtaking or the truck?" I questioned.
Their eyes suddenly widened, as if I just told them that I did gain consciousness that time and walked to the hospital and remember everything.
"That's it!" Lawrence exclaimed.
"How could we be so stupid?" Leon added.
Leon picked me up from the desk, put me down in front of the desk and patted my head.
Is it wrong to want to hug him so bad?
"Thank you, princess." He told me.
Princess? PRINCESS?!
You need to calm down, Dayana.
"What's got you guys so worked up?" I asked.
"We were too focused on who took you away after the accident, that we didn't even consider the cause of the accident." Lawrence replied.
"Huh, do the police's work better my ass." I scoffed.
"Well, the police still haven't found you, right? We've had you here for two weeks now and they still have no idea where you are, princess." Leon said, carefully scanning his laptop.
"Well..." I started, but decided to shut my mouth since I didn't know how to counter that.
"It isn't a one-way road, and there weren't any cars in the truck's lane. It can only mean that it wasn't an accident at all." Lawrence concluded.
"Why didn't the police look into that?" I murmured.
"Police work is sloppy, princess. Especially in this part of the city, where they take any willing policemen, even rookies, because we've driven them out countless times before." Leon told me.
I nodded, before standing up to go to the kitchen.
"I'll get something to drink." I called out.
"Wait, Daya—"
Before he could finish his sentence, I screamed at the top of my lungs.
"Leon, there's a lion in your kitchen!"
-
"Good boy," Leon cooed at Simba, petting his name.
"H-he's so big."I muttered, still scared from seeing a lion in the kitchen.
Even worse when he tackled me, and started licking my face. I thought he was going to eat me!
"Looks like he still remembers you." Lawrence mused, sitting next to Simba and doing the same as Leon.
"Still remembers me?" I questioned.
"Well, when you met him, you immediately fell in love with this little fur ball. You would visit here more often than usual just to see my cub," Leon explained, "So yeah, looks like he still remembers you."
As if on cue, Simba made careful approaches to me, as if he's worried that he'll scare me off again.
When he saw that I wasn't showing any signs of fright, he gently nuzzled my hand.
"How old is he?" I asked.
"Two years old." Lawrence replied like a proud mother.
Slowly, I brought my hands up to his mane. I must admit, it was the littlest mane I've ever saw in a lion(from what I remember with the few trips to the zoo and pictures in the internet), but it was soft and very fluffy.
"You're adorable." I told him, cupping his face in my hands.
He purred in response. I smiled at that. Lions are too underappreciated for this world.
I scratched somewhere behind his mane and growled in satisfaction, now resting his hand on my lap.
"I like you." I murmured and flicked my eyes towards Leon.
Surprisingly, but somehow expectedly, he was staring at me and giving me a small, genuine smile.
I returned it with a grin.
AHHH LEYANA IS SO ADORABLE I CAN'T EVEN!
Greetings, everyone! So, school has actually started and you know, I don't know if my updates are going to be as frequent as I want them to(and I want them to be as frequent as everyday since I went on hiatus for two months).
Anyways, do you still remember Simba?
