The sun finally disappeared for the night, and Thomas, Gally, Brenda, Newt, Fry, and Blair met in the lobby as planned.
"Alright," Blair put a hand on her hip and sighed, "Thomas, you'll only be able to get inside of the wall, not the city. Teresa probably won't enter the wall on her own, so make sure she sees your face."
Blair turned to everyone else and went on, "we'll wait outside of the wall until we have eyes on them."
"And then what?" Newt asked.
Blair smirked, "then we'll..escort..Teresa back here." Even though they knew she meant no harm, the way Blair used the word 'escort' sent chills down everyone's spines.
"Hey, wait!" A familiar voice called.
Blair turned to see Maya running her way. "You're not going in the city, right? Can I come with you?" Her eyes gleamed with hope and she smiled wide.
However, Blair was not lenient. She frowned sorrowfully down at her friend. "Maya, this really isn't a good time," she explained, "I promise I'll take you in on our next supply run, but this is too risky; I don't want you getting caught up in something so dangerous."
Maya sighed overdramatically and turned away to think. After a few seconds she turned back with a crooked smile, "you promise?" Blair nodded, which earned her a tight squeeze of a hug from Maya, "yes!" Maya then ran off.
A tiny, crescent moon began to rise into the sky when the group finally headed out. Many lanterns were still lit while people bustled around outside, finishing their business for that day. Blair led the group quickly and quietly to the entrance of the wall.
Once they reached to glass doors, all eyes were on Thomas. He hesitated, staring at the crowds of people inside, walking around in medical masks and latex gloves. Some people from the sick city were attempting to gain entrance to the safe city, but to no avail. Finally, Thomas pulled up his hood and entered, disappearing into the sea of faces.
As time went on, the people inside the wall began to clear out and go home. Thomas was still nowhere in sight. "I'm getting a bad feeling," Newt stated. The five had moved about thirty yards away from the entance, hidden in the shadows of an outside building, watching through the glass doors.
"He'll be alright," Blair assured, not taking her gaze off the doors. As if queued by her words, Thomas finally came back into view, followed by Teresa.
Gally quietly stood, followed by Fry, Newt, and Brenda. Blair, however, was distracted by noise coming from above. She checked her watch; 7:46 pm. She glance over her shoulder down the isle of buildings. Most people were still outside conversing and eating their dinners. But something felt wrong.
"You coming?" Brenda asked.
Blair turned back to see Brenda waiting for her while the boys went on. "Yeah," she replied quietly, and the two girl jogged up to the boys. Gally and Newt went in silently, sneaking up on Teresa. Once close enough, Gally grabbed both of her wrists. Within moments, her hands were tied behind her back and she was walked out of the wall with the three boys.
"You don't have to do this," Teresa insisted.
"Actually," Gally spoke in a monotonous voice, "we do."
Before Teresa could protest again, a loud banging exploded into everyone's eardrums. Screams broke out throughout the sick city as people began to run in panic, knocking over lanterns that caused small piles of debris to catch fire.
Blair's eyes widened as she froze in fear for a moment; the city was being fire upon once again.
