Chapter 46

"Do you think they're ok?" Levy asked Gajeel while attending to some of the injured guest.

"Of course they are." He finished wrapping a bandage on a little girl, "they have Erza with them I'm sure they're doing fine."

"This is serious Gajeel, what if they're hurt in there? Or what if they can't get out?"

He chuckled, "I didn't know you cared about them that much."

"Of course I do," She whispered, "just because we're all not on good terms doesn't mean I don't care about them. They're still my family."

Gajeel stared at her as she gave her heartfelt speech. He rose from his chair with his hands buried in his pockets, "well you're better than me Levy, cause I can care less about them." He went off to go find another task to keep his mind busy.

She sighed, "even me?"

"Cana! Luna!" Jellal yelled, struggling to support Erza on his shoulder. Feeling weak from the the smoke his vision began to blur, "I can't see straight Erza." He body fell to the side of the wall helping him support himself up.

"I told you I didn't need your shirt." Erza said, her words muffled by his shirt.

"You needed it more than I did," he coughed. He kicked down the door with what remaining strength he had left, "Luna! Cana!" He yelled.

"I'm over here!"

They both rushed inside, walking on top what was the ceiling. They both spotted Cana digging through the ruble, "What are doing Cana?" Jellal asked.

"It's Luna! She's buried under here somewhere amd I can't find her!" She continued digging through until her hands bled, "Luna!" She called out, "please say something!" They both watched as Cana struggled to lift the concrete. Cana then turned to them, "are you going to help or stand there like idiots! She trapped under here!"

Both of them came back to there senses, "right." They both nodded.

"Are you ready?" Lucy asked, breathing heavier than normal.

"Not really," Gray said, grippimg the handles of his chair, "but lets do this." Lucy closed her eyes taking a deep breath. She slowly began pushing Gray outside, unlovking the door. When she finally opened the door chaos erupted. Fires everywhere, the cries and screams of people trying to get out of the building, and the worst of it was the blood scented air.

"Oh my god," Gray said, covering his nose, "that smell..."

She took in the smell, making it unbearable for her to breathe in the air, "Yeah, I know." The sounds of walls cracking alerted Lucy making her shoot her head up to the ceiling, "It's about to fall!" She yelled.

Pushing Gray, she ran toward the exit along with the other people. Being tossed and shoved by others they were stuck in the middle of the overcrowded lobby, "we're not going to get anywhere like this!" Gray said, "we need to put out the fire."

"If it was that simple Gray we would've already done it."

"How deep is this?" Jellal said, grabbing pieces of concrete after another, "at this rate the building will fall down before we get to her."

"Just keep going," Cana said, still using her bloody hands to dig of the piled of stone, "she's under here, I heard her voice."

"Are you sure?" Erza said, "What if she's not there or what if she's..."

"She's what?" Cana said with a furrowed brow, "dead? Is that what you're trying to say?"

"It's a possibility Cana."

"Well she's not. I heard her voice, I know she's alive. So keep digging." She continued digging through the debris.

Every second they were being pushed and shoved the more and more they were pushed back away from the exit, "this isn't getting us anywhere. If we don't get out of here the while floor above us will fall on us," Lucy thought. She scanned the room and hallways, gaining an idea, "hey Gray?"

"What's up?"

"Do you remember seeing any emergency exits around here?"

"No not really. But I think there's one where me and Juvia came down from, it's right through that hallway." Gray pointed to one of the hallways that was lit ablaze, "I hope you don't suggest we go through there, we'll get burned alive."

"That's exactly what we're going to do."

"Wait get burned alive or go through there?"

Lucy sighed, "you're just as dense as Natsu."

"Hey don't compare me to that Flamebrain! I can admit I may be a little dumb, bet he's a whole new level!"

"Can you use your powers?"

"I don't know. I haven't really been able to use them since I got shot."

"Well I need you to try because..." Lucy glanced up, watching half the ceiling fall on the other side of the room, "we need to go now!" Lucy grabbed the handles of his chair pushing him toward the hallway.

Gray glanced back and saw as the ceiling was catching up to them, "go faster! It's catching up!"

Lucy growled, "how about you help and get out of the chair?!"

"Have you forgotten!? My legs are numb!"

"Then shut up and stop being a backseat driver!" Lucy ran as fast as she could with all the strength her legs could give her, "we're not going to make it!" Gray screamed, gripping his hair.

"When we get close enough I want you to freeze the entire hallway."

"What?! I-I can't-"

"We don't have time for you to be doubting yourself now Gray. We either die or you can man up right now!"

"Fine but I don't know if it's going to work!"

"Well, then we both die."
