Chapter 43
"September nineteenth, twenty seventy-two." Veena held her recorder to her mouth watching the test subject squirm in their restraints, "last test subject died of the last treatment. Their skin was full of blisters and their skin was swollen, almost like they were stung by a hundred wasps multiple times." She picked up a needle filled with a purple substance, "I will inject this treatment into the next subject hoping it will give me my results." She hit the needles tip, "now injecting the subject."
Before she could inject the subject the person spit in her face making her back away, "you'll never win. People like you never win." They said, out of breath.
Veena laughed, "you sure are feisty." she wiped her face, "you say that when you are in restraints and your friends are in cages."
"Well I have hope."
Veena bursted in laughter, making her side hurt, "hope? What a silly thing to believe in."
"You don't believe in hope?"
"Let's just say me and hope don't get along very well." She walked to a locker not visible for the person to see, "hope abandoned me a long time ago when it took my family away by your kind."
"So that's why you hate us?"
"Quite the contrary actually, it's not that I hate your kind I actually find them quite beautiful, extraordinary, different. That's why you guys are dangerous and need to be kept in check."
"We can't help that we are born like this!"
"I know, but that doesn't stop you from going on rampages and killing innocent people on the way."
"There hasn't been a case of a meta human killing a human in years!"
"That's doesn't make them not dangerous." She pulled out a large silver case and smacking it down on the table next to her next victim. She smiled at the person, "I like you. What's your name?"
"Why should I tell you anything?"
Before the person could react Veena smacked her causing her to bruise the victims left side of her face, "I don't like it when I have to get violent. I don't like being the bad guy, but when I ask a question, you will answer it!" She screamed making the person flinch in fear, "now I'll ask again, what is your name?"
They spit out the blood that is now dripping from their now swollen face, "my name... is Lisanna."
Soldiers bursted in the room carrying something in a bag, "We captured this one trying to escape." They opened the bag and dumped an injured girl on the floor.
"Wendy!" Lisanna yelled.
"What did I tell you about injuring them?! I want them unharmed!" Veena examined the body and saw two bullet holes in the body. One in her shoulder and one in her gut. Veena hit one of the soldiers in their heads with her bare fists, knocking him onto the ground, "make sure there are no others trying to escape! And if you screw up again I'll kill everyone you care about and have you watch as I do it!"
"Yes mam." They both scurried out, not wasting time.
"Damn idiots!" Veena picked up Wendy and called one of her assistants.
"Yes mam!" Flare said.
"Take this girl to the medical room and make sure she doesn't die. I need all the Meta humans I can get."
"Right away." Flare picked the girl up and put her on a gurney rushing her to the medical room.
"Now where was I?" She looked back to Lisanna, with now pleasure in her eyes as she glanced down at her suitcase, "I realize now that I've been doing this all wrong." She picked up her case and opened it, revealing several torture tools and weapons.
Lisanna flinched at the sight. Her eyes widened as she saw Veena pull out the large knife sharpening it. She tried as hard as she could trying to break the restraints, which only caused her to bruise her wrist, making it harder for her to escape, "please no," She begged, watching Veena get closer, "you don't have to do this."
"Don't worry Lisanna. I'm just going to get a closer look inside." She put the blade on her skin making the first cut.
Lisanna's screams could be heard from every room, every inch of the building including underground where everyone was being held. Her scream was like nails on a chalkboard making all the students cover their ears, trying to contain their cries so the guards didn't have a reason to hurt them.
"What are you doing to her?!" A man yelled, running to guards.
The guards reached for their weapon, "I'm only going to warn you once!" A guard activated his weapon, causing electricity to surround it, "sit down before we have to hurt you!"
"Not until you tell me what you're doing to her!" He rushed towards them knocking one of them down and repeatedly punching his in his face. The other guard hit him causing thousands of volts to run through his body.
Having that many volts run through your body is deadly.
They began beating him. Stopping on him and punching him, making sure he didn't dare to defy then again.
"Please stop!" A girl spoke up, running toward them, "he learned his lesson! You don't have to hurt him anymore."
"Shut up!" The guard hit her causing her to fall back and grab her face, "we're done when we say we're done!" They kicked him one last time before walking away, closing the door behind them, "that'll teach them," one of them said.
The girl got up and crawled over to his almost lifeless body, "Elfman!" She shook his body, but he wasn't moving, "Elfman! Please wake up!" She turned to everyone. They were just staring at her, "please help him! Can't you see he needs help?!"
"Calm down Evergreen." Laki appeared out of the shadows. She came into the light showing off her dark circles amd bruises all on her arms and face, "grab the end of his feet and bring him over here." They lifted him up almost dragging him over to where Laki was sitting. She checked his pulse, "He's still alive but barley." She grabbed what water she had left and tore off the end of her shirt soaking it the water. She cleaned his wounds and began making bandages out of his shirt.
"What is happening?" Someone whispered.
"Why is this happening to us!" Someone cried out.
"Shut up! All of you!" They all turned to the sleep deprived Laki, "the only way we're going to make it out alive here is if we stick together. We're not going to let them win." She went back to helping Elfman and hearing the sobs coming from Evergreen.
"I don't understand! Why cant we use our powers!" Jet whispered to Droy.
"I don't know man." He rubbed his neck, where the injection Veena gave him was, "it probably has something to do with what that crazy lady stabbed us with."
Jet sighed, "do you think we're going to make it out of here?"
"I don't know," Droy said, "but if we are going to make it out alive here, we have to do what Laki said, we need to stick together."
