Chapter 37
"You should really try the potatoes, they're delicious!" Levy said, stuffing her mouth.
"That's gross Levy. Don't eat with your mouth full." Erza said.
"Mmm." Luna chewed her waffle, smiling from ear to ear, "the waffles are really good."
"You got that right kid." Cana said, stuffing her mouth with waffles, giggling along side Luna.
"Table manners!" Lucy said, wiping Lunas syrup filled shirt off.
"This is really nice." Jellal said, taking another bite of his waffles, "just us friends eating breakfast together. Not being chased by a crazy scientist and her minions."
Erza giggled, "I wouldn't say friends, but we're getting there." They both sneaked glances at each other, getting caught. They both, quickly, turned away, flustered.
Gray leaned toward Natsu, "when did they get so friendly?"
"I don't know, but it's gross."
"Hey guys. Mind if I sit?" An unknown voice said.
"It's a free country." Gajeel said.
"Don't mind him..." Cana said, turning to the voice, "you can sit here if you-" her eyes widened as she saw the last person she ever wanted to see.
He smirked, "It's nice to meet you again."
Oh how that smirk gave her chills. Just the sound of his voice triggered something in her. She moved her eyes in any direction, away from the crew, and away from him.
He sat next to her, making sure his leg rubbed against her, "thanks, it's good to run into some nice people around here." He put his hand on Cana's knee, traveling his way up, "you don't see many people like that around here." Cana grabbed his hand before he could travel his hand up farther.
Anger amd fear rose inside of her, but she couldn't let anyone else see it. She smiled and wiped her face, "Excuse me..." She stood up, leaving the rest of the crew confused.
"What's with her?" Gajeel asked.
"Maybe it's a lady problem." The guy smiled, stuffing his face with potatoes.
Everyone else let it go, thinking she was just in one of her moods, but one person knew better.
"Lucy? Where are you going?" Natsu asked.
"To the bathroom. I'll be right back." She sped walked to where Cana was.
"What are you doing?" Cana whispered, still walking to anywhere but there.
Lucy grabbed her arm pulling her into another room. She observed around her making sure no one saw them, "it was him wasn't it?!"
"What are you-"
"Don't play games with me Cana. I saw your face when you saw him. He did something to you and I want to know what."
"It's not something you can just talk about."
Lucy gasped, "Did he..."
"No, no, no." Cana sat on one of the stools. She sighed, "I don't regret doing it. It helped us. That's all that matters."
"You matter Cana!" She grabbed her shoulders, "I don't care if you got us into those big fancy room, if it means that you get hurt then I don't want it."
She sighed, running her hands through her hair, "I need a drink."
"Getting drunk is not the best solution right now!"
"Then what is Lucy?! Since your so perfect tell me what is the best solution."
"I'm far from perfect, and you know that."
Cana sighed, "stay out of my business. I can handle myself just fine."
Lucy grabbed her arm, "I thought you said whenever we needed to talk we can trust each other. Why don't you trust me?"
"I didn't say that applied to me." She snatched her arm away, leaving the room.
"Why cant you just trust me!?" Lucy yelled running towards her.
"Because I can't trust anyone!" Cana yelled, "not you, Erza, Natsu, and everyone else."
"Even Luna?"
"Yes. Even her." Cana gulped. Just saying that made her feel disgusted with herself.
"Wow, whatever they did to you must really have fucked you up if you can't even trust the people who would risk their lives for you."
"Don't you dare talk about my past!" Cana yelled, "you have no right to tell me how I feel."
"Stop acting like your the only one with a past. We've all been through hell before." Lucy walked in the opposite direction, leaving Cana alone.
"Damn!" She kicked a nearby bucket, flooding the hall with water.
"Girlfriend troubles?" She knew that voice all to well.
She turned. That same fear striking her again, "What do you want?" She said, her voice breaking.
"We made a deal Rember?" He smirked, walking towards her.
"No. It was only a one time thing. I'm done." She tried walking away from him, but he grabbed her wrist.
"Where are you going?" He pinned her against the wall leaving her helpless. She didn't want to attack him, because that would mean losing the rooms, that's would mean that everything she did was for nothing.
He leaned in closer to her, taking in her scent, "you're so beautiful." Those words coming out of his mouth alone made her want to throw up.
But she had no choice but to do what he says.
At least that's what she thought.
He trailed kisses down her neck, making Cana cringe everytime he touched her, "don't worry..." he smirked, "I'll make you feel good."
"Not a chance buddy!" He turned to see Lucy glaring at him.
"Look princess I don't want any trouble. So get lost." He continued what he was doing only adding feul to Lucys rage.
She grabbed his shoulder turning him around, "What are you-" Before he could finish Lucy threw an jab at his jaw, almost breaking it. He fell to the ground holding his mouth in pain.
She grabbed his collar, "if I every see you come near her, touch her, or even think about her, I will kill you." She released her grip making him fall to the ground. She watched as the blood from his mouth dripped on the carpet.
He stood up, still holding his jaw, "you will regret this."
"You'll regret it more if you come near her again." Lucy threatened. He ran off, leaving a trail of blood behind him. Lucy turned back towards Cana examining her, "did he do anything to you? Did he hurt you?"
Cana didn't say anything. She just stood there like she was in another reality, "Cana? Are you ok?"
She turned toward Lucy, her eyes still widened, "thank you." She whispered.
"What?" Lucy said.
Cana buried her face into Lucys shoulder, "thank you, thank you." She kept repeating.
Lucy sighed, "It's what friends are for." She took Cana's hand, "lets go back to the room. You look like you need some rest."
