Chapter 33

She laughed, "come on Luna, we need to go to sleep."

"Ok." She giggled, wrapping the blankets around her.

"Hey, you're taking all the covers." Cana said, pulling the blanket closer to her, causing her to pull Luna closer.

Luna wrapped her arms around Cana, "really kid?" Cana said.

"What? You're warm." Luna said, hugging Cana tighter.

Cana gave up trying to escape her grasp and decided to fall asleep. An hour passed and Cana couldn't fall asleep, let alone close her eyes.

"Are you still awake?" Luna whispered.

"What's up?" Cana said, groggily.

"Will me and you always be friends?"

Cana turned to face her, "why would you ask that?"

"I don't know... I was just curious."

"Of course we'll always be friends. No matter what."

"You swear?" Luna held out her pinkie finger.

Cana laughed, "I swear. Now go to bed kid. We have to get up early for the free breakfast in the morning." She turned back over, closing her eyes, attempting to fall asleep one more.

"I'll always protect you Cana." She yawned, "no matter what."

Cana smiled, "and I promise to do the same." She whispered.

"Gajeel! Gajeel!" Levy yelled. She was searching for Gajeel, hoping that he would still be on the roof.

"Over here." She spotted him sitting on the ledge, watching the city view.

"Gajeel! Be careful, you might fall." Levy said, walking over to him.

"Beautiful isn't it?"

"What?"

"The view. Beautiful isn't it?"

"It's quite the scene." Levy smiled.

"So are you just going to stand there?" Gajeel asked, patting the seat next to him.

"No thanks, I was just checking on you."

"Oh really? Or are you just scared?"

She scoffed, "Scared of what?"

"Sitting on the ledge. You can't be scared of everything shrimp."

"I'm not scared of everything!" She pouted.

"Then sit next to me."

She sighed. She sat next to him, watching the view and feeling the cool breeze touch her face. She closed her eyes feeling relaxed, "see? This is what happens when you don't always play by the rules. You have fun."

"I have plenty of fun."

"Reading isn't fun."

"Maybe to you. Reading is my life, reading is all I know. It's what I grew up with."

He sighed, "Well do you do anything else for fun?"

"I write."

He bursted out laughing, "Hey if you're just going to insult me then I'm leaving."

He grabbed her hand, "Hey I was just playing around." She crossed her arms, staring back at the view, "look, I'm sorry."

"For insulting my hobbies?"

"Yeah, and for yelling at you earlier at the gas station."

"Oh."

"I was wrong to yell at you and for jumping to conclusions." He combed his fingers through his hair, "I didn't know you got supplies for everyone. I thought it was just a bag of books."

"Really Gajeel? You think I would risk my life for a bunch of books?"

"Yeah. You've done it before. Remember that lake trip we took in the sixth grade and your book fell in the lake."

She giggled, "I remember that. I jumped in the deepest part of the lake just for a stupid book that I didn't even end up finishing. I remember you and Gray pulling me out of the water. I remember thinking I was going to die."

"Well I'm glad you didn't."

"Same." She smiled, "What happened to us?"

"What do you mean by us? You and me? Or..."

"I mean all of us. We used to be inseparable. We had each other's back, we promised to never leave each other's side." She sighed, "we promised to protect each other. We were family."

"I don't know shrimp."

She sighed, "Can you just say my name right for once?"

"Not a chance, shrimp." He smirked.

"Ugh!" She got up and walked toward the exit, "I'm going to sleep. Goodnight." She slammed the door behind her, amusing him.

He chuckled, "goodnight, Levy."

"Is this really the best you could find?" Erza said, holding up a bottle of wine.

"It was the only thing I could find in the car. Cana sure is a heavy drinker."

"Tell me about it. I saw her stash in the trunk and that woman is crazy. Just the smell of some of that stuff can get me drunk."

He chuckled, "cheers."

She smiled, "cheers." They both drank the bottles of wine, almost finishing the whole bottle.

"That's pretty good." Erza said, wiping the leftover wine off her face.

"Yeah, she has pretty good taste."

They both stared at the tv, watching whatever channel was on the screen, "do you think we'll be able to do this?" Erza asked.

"Do what?" He took another sip.

"Y'know, save the world."

"Oh that." He put the bottle on the table, "I really can't tell you, but there's a good chance that we might be able to pull it off."

She scoffed, "I doubt it. For some of us this is the first time we used our powers in years. We've been cooped up in that school for so long and thought we were safe that we forgot the meaning of danger and fear. We forgot that we have actual enemies out there who want to hurt us."

"What are you saying?"

"I'm saying were not strong enough."

Jellal sighed, "come here." He motioned for Erza to come closer to him. She happily obliged, laying her head on his chest, "I think you're right, we're not strong enough, but look at the things we already accomplished. We got away from Veena and her army and we beat up a bunch of body builders from a gas station. I say that's progress."

Erza laughed, "yeah, I guess so." She finished the rest of her drink.

Jellal looked at the time, "I think it's time to go sleep."

"No why?" She whined, holding onto his shirt.

"It's getting late and you're drunk."

"At least carry me." She held up her arms, giggling. Jellal obliged and grabbed her heading to her room. She snuggled deeper into his chest, "thank you, Jellal. For everything."

He smiled, "anything for you." He whispered, kissing her forehead, "goodnight Erza."
