Chapter 29
"How much farther Levy." Cana asked.
"According to the directions on my phone, before you broke it..." She said, whispering the last part, "It's supposed to be in the next city."
"Which is another hour away." Everyone groaned.
"My butt really hurts from sitting too long." Natsu said.
"Yeah mines too." Jellal said, rubbing his.
"We should probably stop somewhere." Erza said, "we've been driving for hours, it would be nice if we could stretch out our legs."
Cana sighed, "we can take a break at the next stop."
"Finally." Gajeel said, stretching his arms out, "I need to get out of this cramped car, especially with these losers am I right Juv-" he glanced over to her side only to her stroking Grays hair, staring down at him with loving eyes. He growled, startling Levy. She stared at him, noticing his angered expression.
"Is there something wrong Gajeel?" She asked.
He didn't respond. He only looked foward.
She sighed and stared back down at her book.
"We can stop here." Cana pulled into a gas station, "lets make this quick. We don't have that much time."
They rushed out the car leaving Juvia, Gray, and Gajeel alone.
Juvia glanced up at her fuming best friend, "why aren't you going in with the rest?"
"I'm just making sure you're ok."
She chuckled, "I'm fine Gajeel, you don't need to worry about me."
"Are you sure about that?"
She was taken aback from his sudden attitude, "What is that supposed to mean?"
He scoffed, "nothing." He opened the door.
"Gajeel wait-" he slammed the door before she could say anything else. She sighed, covering her eyes with her hand.
Before he walked in the store he took out the rubber band holding his ponytail and fluffed his hair out. He sighed, disappointed in himself for the way he acted, but it couldn't be helped. He walked in the store joining the others.
"Hey look at me!" Natsu yelled, putting his head under the slushie machine. He turned it on and a river of colorful ice poured into his mouth.
"Stop it Natsu!" Lucy said, trying to pull him from under the machine.
"Hmm..." Levy put her hand on her chin as she was staring into the isles, "I should probably start by getting some bandages and medicine for Gray. Or..." She stared into another isle filled with magazines and a few books, "I could start with this isle." She rubbed her hands together.
Erza's eyes sparkled as she stared into the display case, "What to pick?" She hovered her hand over the chocolate cake that oozed more chocolate in the middle, she then saw another cake that was stuffed with vanilla icing and was lemon flavored.
She gasped, "no, this one!" She picked her all time favorite cake, "strawberry cake!" She cut a slice and dug her fork into it, savoring each piece she put into her mouth, "I'm in heaven."
"Ooh! Zodiac signs." Jellal picked up a book of constellations and zodiac signs. He skimmed through the pages looking for his sign, "ah! Gemini." He read through the page, amazed at how well they predicted him, "how do they do it?" He continued skimming through the pages.
Luna looked around amazed at all the selections to choose from. Since she was born after the war started she's never seen a store before. She walked around until her eyes caught the most beautiful thing she has ever seen, "candy!" She reached her hand out until a hand slapped hers causing her to jerk back in pain, "Ouch!"
She stared at the old woman, who had the most disgusted expression on her face, "do you have money to pay for that?"
"No but-"
"Then I suggest you don't touch! I can't have filthy kids touching my stuff, it will drive all my customers away." She grabbed Lunas hand, "I'm calling the police to take care of you."
"The police. What for?"
"For trying to steal. Hoodlums like you need to be taken care of."
"I wasn't stealing-"
"I don't care I don't want to hear any of your excuses." She gripped Lunas wrist tighter, leaving a bruise.
"And here's your change." Levy grabbed her bag, and started heading over to the crew before she heard a disturbance.
"Let go of me! You're hurting me!" Luna yelled. The lady only held on tighter, causing Luna to scream in pain, "please stop!" She continued dragging her, causing Luna to lose control. Her hand ignited in flames burning the lady's hand, making her fall back.
Luna stumbled and fell hitting her head on the counter. She sat up, "Ouch." She whispered.
"You're a meta human!" The woman screamed as held her wrist, burned from Lunas fire.
Luna glanced at the woman's wrist and immediately got up to help her, "I'm sorry! I didnt mean to-" She felt a sharp pain in her cheek as she fell to the ground again. She looked up to see the woman holding a broom, trembling in fear.
"You meta humans are disgusting! You shouldn't be here!" She swung the broom, missing Luna by an inch.
"I was only trying to help." Luna said, attempting to crawl away.
"You don't belong here!" She swung again, missing, but that time it was closer. Lunas back was against the wall. She had no where else to go. The woman lifted the broom over her head, "you people make me sick!" She swung the broom, causing Luna to shield herself from the impact. She waited and waited, but felt nothing.
"Huh?" She thought. She peeked and saw a hand holding the broom, which was centimeters from her face.
"What. Do. You. Think. You're. Doing?" Luna recognized the voice.
"C-Cana."
The woman trembled in fear as she stared into her eyes filled with anger, rage.
"I asked you a question." She snatched the broom from her hands, "What do you think you're doing?!"
"She's a meta human, she doesn't belong here!"
"And who are you to decide that?"
She didn't answer. She only glared at the terrified child below her.
"My eyes are up here lady." She snapped at her.
"I don't have to answer to you!" She snapped.
Cana glared at her, "if you think you can put your hands on one of my friends then you have another thing coming lady."
"Oh really?" She crossed her arms. They both glanced up at the men who appeared behind her, cracking their knuckles, "I have a strict policy of no meta humans, so if you don't leave my store now, they will escort you."
"I'll move when I want lady!" Cana said.
"This is my store, I make the rules!" She yelled, "get them out of here."
They walked in front of the woman, "you're just going to let you're goons do your work for you." Cana said.
"Yep." She stared back at the men, "make sure it hurts."
"This lady is sick." Cana thought. The men walked foward, crooked smirks plastered on their faces. Cana walked in front of Luna, "stay behind me." She prepared to use her abilities until she saw a bright light shine in the corner of her face.
He shot a bolt of energy, burning one of the men's arm as he blocked it. Cana looked behind her, "Jellal."
He adjusted his shirt, "It's in your best interest to walk away now before I make you wish you were dead." He glared at them, only making them laugh, amused by his words.
"Don't get too cocky boy." One of the men said.
"You better listen to what he says." Erza joined in, taking off her glasses.
"Ooh! Another feisty one."
The rest of the crew walked behind them, infuriated expressions written on their faces.
The men laughed, "What do you guys think you can do?" He grabbed Luna, holding her hands behind her back. Her eyes widened as she stared back at them.
"Let her go!" Cana yelled.
"Or what?" He took out a knife and held it to her neck, causing Luna to tremble.
"We don't want any trouble, just let her go." Lucy said, anger laced in her voice.
"We gave you that option..." He held the knife closer to her neck, causing blood to drip, "and now you lost it."
"You have to use you're powers." Cana said, telepathically. Luna stared at Cana, Fear evident in her eyes.
"I-I can't. The more I use them, the more out of control they get."
"You don't have another option."
"I can't. I don't want to go through that again."
"I promise you won't!"
"Don't make promises you can't keep Cana." Cana stared back at Luna, suprised.
"When I promise something I mean it. I promise you won't lose control."
Luna stared at her, unsure of what to do, "you have to do it now Luna. They're going to kill you."
It was like a war was going on inside her head. If she did do it, she could risk all of her friends in the future, but if she didn't, her mission here would've been a waste of time.
"Luna, you have to do it now!" Cana said.
"I'm thinking!" She yelled. He stuck the knife a little deeper, causing Luna to grab his arm, trying to push him away.
"Luna!" Cana screamed.
Her flames ignited, burning the man, causing him drop the knife and loosened his grip around her.
This was the signal for them to attack.
Erza summoned her blade, cutting the man's cheek. He fell backwards, "you bitch!" She kicked him in his face, knocking him out.
Lucy jumped on one of their backs, tying her jacket around his throat. He struggled standing as she tightening her grip. He grabbed her and threw her on the ground, causing her to yelp in pain. He coughed, falling to the ground, desperately gasping for air. Lucy used this to her advantage. She stood on her feet and kicked his chest. He held his chest in pain and glanced at her. Her eyes as wild as fire. She picked him up by his collar and punched him in his temple, disabling him completely.
Juvias head shot up as she heard what sounded like glass, shattering, "they've been in there too long, maybe I should go in." She heard Gray groan and noticed the sweat dripping from his face. She sighed, "They're fine, I'm just worrying too much. Like always."
Natsu threw a punch landing on one of the men's jaw, knocking out a tooth. He spit the tooth out with a little blood mixed in, "you sure have a strong punch for a kid." He positioned himself in a fighting stance and taunted Natsu. He threw the first punch landing on Natsu's head, sending him into a daze. It felt like the room was spinning to him. He collapsed on the floor unable to stand on his feet.
"Dammit Natsu!" Before the man could deliver the final blow, Jellal kicked him in his gut, making him fly into one of the isles, knocking down shelves, landing on top of him.
Lucy hurried toward Natsu, "Natsu! Natsu!" She gently slapped his cheek, trying to get him to stay awake.
"I-I feel dizzy." Natsu said, slurring his words. He lifted his hands touching Lucys face, "Y-Your face is so... soft." He stretched her cheeks, causing her to slap his hands away. He laughed as he continued to try to touch her face.
"He's lost it!" Lucy yelled, "someone's going to have to carry him out of here!"
"Not it!" Everyone yelled, still fighting.
"Crap." Lucy pouted.
Gajeel threw one of them over the counter, "lets finish this!"
Erza punched the man in the gut, making him bend over in pain. She kicked his leg, causing him to fall over. She landed another punch on his face, knocking him out cold, "how are we always getting ourselves into fights. I feel like we're back in middle school."
"I don't know." Jellal said, throwing a jab, landing on the man's face, "but hey, it's good practice for the real fight."
Erza grabbed the man's hair, "I can't argue with that." She threw him out the window, startling Juvia.
Juvia sighed, "What did they do this time?"
Cana helped Luna get back on her feet, "come on, we have to go."
Luna nodded and followed her through the war that happening in front of them. Everyone ducked as they heard a large boom from behind them. They turned around and saw the old lady with a shotgun. She fired another shot, aiming at Erza and Levy. They both ran before the shot hit the wall behind them.
"She's freaking crazy!" Gajeel yelled as he was running.
"To the car!" Cana yelled. Everyone ran out.
"Wait! My bag!" Levy said, turning to see her bag filled with magazines and other essentials lying on the floor. She ran and grabbed the bag, trying to run out, but it was to late.
The woman already had her in her sight.
Her eyes widened as she saw the shotgun pointing at her. She screamed.
He heard the familiar scream and immediately turned. His eyes widened, "Shrimp!"
