chapter 10 (final for book one)

Here we are, the last challenge.
What could possibly await us? It looks like, like a,
box? No, more of a chest. We look to one another, confused.
"What is this?"
Shard asks hesitantly stepping forward to the trunk.
The chest itself was wooden, lined with silver and decorated with gold. It sat, presented on a pillar of marble. The only thing in the barren white room.
"No, clue." Jayne answers, staring intently at it.
"Well, someone gonna try to open it?"
I challenge, catching everyone off guard.
I look to every one quizzically, who's gonna do it?
Eventually, and to everyone's surprise, Eris steps forth. putting her hands around the trunk, and prying it open.
She gasps as she is suddenly pulled forward, being pulled into the chest.
"Eris!" Jayne runs forward, grabbing her friend's shoulders in an attempt to get her away from demon trunk.
At least they're friends again, unfortunately Jayne end up in the same state as Eris, prying themselves back, away from the chest that's pulling them forth like magnets.
No one knew what to do, but we didn't have to because within minutes we had all been forced towards the chest. I tried to peer my head to the side, intent on figuring out what the hell was happening. Surprised I see something I didn't think I would.

"Everyone! Take off your necklaces, they're what's pulling us in!" I yell, causing my friends and I to all pry the strings from our necks.
After I had successfully gotten mine off it flew into the chest, clicking into one of the five quadrants of a small dial placed inside.

After multiple attempts, everyone had gotten their pendants off. Most, like me, had just pulled it over our heads. Shard and Nikki had broken the string holding the gems.
"What, do we do now?"
Nikki's question was soon answered as the walls started pushing forward, words written in the same language Eris's counter riddles were in.
Speaking of the telikan, she stared at the wording intently. Attempting to translate, her eyes widened after a few minutes of reading. Tears padding her eyes.

"Bullshit! We came this far and now you and your fucking game are gonna take that all away?"
Confused at what she was yelling at, I asked.
"Uh, Eris. Whats wrong?"

"The creator of this twisted puzzle house never meant for anyone to get through it. They expected us to die on the first test, or to get lost in the maze! There is no freedom, the guards will be storming the exit if we find a way out in the first place!"
Eris cries out , yelling more profanities at the slate of stone.

"Then why would it take the necklaces?" Jayne asks.

"So they can go back to their original places. To their cages by the containment centre doors."
My eyes widen. No way out. We're done for once we leave.

"No! I'm not gonna let that happen. I promised you that you'd see your sisters again, I promised everyone that we'd be free with our families and friends! I plan on keeping that promise!"
Running forward, to everyone's surprise, I throw a punch at the dial inside the chest. It shatters, freeing all the gemstones. I grab them all, throwing them to there owners.
"Put them back on, Nikki and Shard tie yours back together, quickly! "
Within seconds everyone had their medallions on.

"Eris, do what you can to figure out we're a weak spot in the wall might be. Shard and Nikki! I need you two, as the physically strongest people here to start demolishing that part when its found. Jayne, you and I will get the remaining fruits from the basket and make sure we can carry them all. Does everyone understand?"
They all stare surprised by my assertiveness.
Eventually they murmur in understanding.
"Then let's get to work!"
We all scramble into action.
Eris feeling her hand to the rough walls, trying to detect a weak spot, Shard and Nikki close behind, awaiting her command.
Jayne and I rummage through the basket counting the remaining fruits.
"23, 24, 25, 26,27, 28, 29,30,and 31! Thirty one fruits in total!" Jayne says with a grin, they should last a small while.

"Here! I can feel a weaker layer of stone in this area!" Eris yells out, Shard setting into motion. pounder her fists against the wall. A few seconds later, Nikki in the form of a grizzly bear clawing at the stone. Eris is using her powers to telekinetically fling broken pieces of rocks at the crumbling wall.
The wall breaks upon impact, causing the room around us to start collapsing.
"everyone run!"
As if it wasn't already obvious, Nikki (back in humanoid form) had shouted. We all sprint for the new made exit, Jayne having to shove me forward because I wasn't fast enough. We made it out out just before the entrance (cliche as it is) was filled with chunks of the ceiling, blocking us from going back in.

"There they are!" I look up to see multiple guards start running at us.
I quickly go invisible, confusing them greatly. Jayne starts running circles around them , Shard knocking out and bashing those of them spinning in circles trying to find both I and the speedster. Eris starts turning them against one another, and Nikki is on the same page as Shard.
I let out a laugh, unknowingly catching a guard's attention. causing him to switch out his stun gun for a flashlight, shining it straight at me. I hiss as the lights burns my skin, seeping into me like a thousand suns. My powers flickers out. I channel my telethia side in, attempting a teleport, and succeeding. I appear behind the man who had the flashlight, kicking him in the back and sending him flying forward.

"A teleporting invisia? Men, catch and send her to the lab!" Another guard yells out, her badge signifying importance. I growl.
"Guys! group up, I need to try something!" I scream out, narrowly avoiding a tranquilizer needle someone had aimed at Shard who was standing close behind me.
They all nod before running to meet me, all of us wounded in someway or another as i grab jayne and Shards wrists. They get the memo, grabbing onto Nikki and Eris as well.
I close my eyes, straining myself to get this to work. The cries of battle stopped, i feel myself collapse to the ground. I had strained myself too far and now I would fall for it. But I got my plan to work.
I had teleported everyone away from the puzzle house, guards, and containment centre.
Everyone was safe to at least some extent.
"Dear lord! Sam are you okay?" Shard says, kneeling next to me. I let out a huff.
"I'll be alright, you all must find somewhere to go."
I reply tiredly.
" What do you mean 'you guys'. You're coming too." Eris says worried.
"Your friend has overstrained her powers. She won't survive without help. Come, quickly."
We all turn to see a teen no older than 17 looking at us through the trees. Long red hair is a ponytail tied by a string with a lime green semicircle rock on the end. A first aid kit on his belt, a shield with the symbol of a hospital on his arm. He eyed us with studious brown eyes, only slightly darker than his skin.
That's when my vision clouded over, I'm glad I got my friends to safety.
Goodbye for now.
