The Solar Light Quadrant
It was the next day, and I got up early once more. It was 4:00 in the morning and the sun wasn't up yet. I got out of bed, put on my suit and utility belt, and grabbed my backpack. I grabbed my cellphone and put it in my pocket. I walked to my mirror and opened it. I walked down the stairs until I was in the foyer. Ahead, I saw Diana and the Elite Five. I walked over and greeted them.
"Ready to go?" Diana asked.
"Ready as I'll ever be!" I cried with excitement.
We walked to the agency's jet garage and got in a silver private jet. Our pilot's name was Agent Leon. He had teal hair and navy blue eyes.
"Where to Ms. Diana?" he asked.
"Altea, the Solar Light Quadrant." Diana replied.
"Aye aye!"
Before I knew it, we were above the clouds, on our way to Altea. The sun was rising, but I can still make out different constellations. I didn't mean to, but I started naming every one, and explaining them out loud.
Sorry. I just LOVE astronomy.
"Ursa Major is a constellation in the northern sky, whose associated mythology likely dates back into prehistory. Its Latin name means "greater she-bear", standing as a reference to and in direct contrast with nearby Ursa Minor, the lesser bear." I said.
Hunter heard me and looked out the window.
"Oh yeah, I see it. I never really was an astronomy kind of guy, but still, it's nice to learn about it. Can you tell me more?" he asked.
I nodded my head.
"Scorpius is one of the constellations of the zodiac. Its name is Latin for scorpion, and its symbol is. Scorpius is one of the 48 constellations identified by the Greek astronomer Ptolemy in the second century," I said pointing it out.
"Your knowledge for astronomy is truly impeccable, Genevieve," Diana said.
"Thanks, Diana. That means a lot."
"I wanted to wait until we got to Altea, but I guess I can give it to you guys now."
We gathered around Diana. She brought out a black briefcase with ESA in silver letters. She opened it and there were different spy gear and gadgets.
"This is an electric whip, crafted with bulletproof steel, and I believe this is a perfect weapon for you, Genevieve." Diana said handing it to me.
I stared at her, and took it gladly. It was a little heavy, but I had a firm grip on it. I pressed the button and a long, neon blue whip of electricity appeared. It was beautiful. I turned it off, and put it on my utility belt.
"Thank you, Diana." I said.
"You are welcome. Now, for the rest of you." Diana said.
Before I knew it, everyone had a new gear or gadget. Austin had a pair of spy glasses that can record anything at anytime, and they're heat amplifying glasses. Hunter had robotic gloves and boots, and they were called stompers and hammer hands. Nathaniel had gotten a golden wristwatch that can scan anyone and tell you their history, and it can shoot tranquilizer darts out of the scanner's lens. Maddie had a lipstick taser. Press the button and you can leave your opponent paralyzed.
"We'll be landing soon, Ms. Diana." Leon called out.
"Okay everyone, we are about to land, so gather your things and get ready." Diana announced.
I gathered my things and put them in my backpack. It was 8:00 in the morning, and I couldn't wait to see Altea.
I feel like such a tourist.
When we landed, we were in a cave in a rainforest.
If I remember correctly, this is the Jade Rainforest, the second largest rainforest in the world. The Opal Rainforest is the first.
We got out the jet and left the cave. Leon put the jet into stealth mode, which made it invisible. The Elite Five and I walked through the forest, until we got to a city.
"This is Azure Bay City, city of beaches. Just this city alone has over seven beaches," Diana explained.
"Wow, it's so beautiful." I said.
I looked at my surroundings, and saw many beaches with beautiful, sparkling azure oceans and glistening white sand.
"We are looking for the Seashell Hotel. It should not be that hard to spot. Just look for a blue and white building." Diana announced.
"Is that it?" Maddie asked, pointing to a tall blue and white building.
"Apparently, yes."
We walked to the hotel and went inside. Inside was nothing I would of expected. It had a mix of modern and classy design. Velvet and wood furniture, fireplaces, it was like a castle, buy with modern things. It's even much bigger on the inside than the outside. Diana got our room keys and we set off to our rooms.
The boys and girls were in separate rooms, of course.
When we walked in our room, it was big. For the kitchen, it was a master chef kitchen with beige marble countertops to resemble the sand, and had pale blue cabinets to resemble the ocean. The living room had navy furniture with a gold and glass coffee table, and a 38in. flat screen TV.
The bedrooms didn't need any explanation, because they were just absolutely stunning.
There were two bedrooms. In the first bedroom, it had two beds with bedsheets of the different shades of blue, a silver vanity, a flat screen TV, seashell paintings, and a balcony that overlooks the ocean and the sunset every night. In the other bedroom, it had one bed with the same features as the first bedroom: blue bedsheets, silver vanity, flat screen TV, seashell paintings, and balcony to see the ocean. Maddie, Diana, and I put our things down in our rooms, and met back up in the living room.
"This sure is an amazing place," Maddie said.
"Yes, but we have more pressing matters at hand: find the Solarizer and destroy it," Diana said, taking out a gadget of her own.
"What is that thing?" I asked.
"It is a radar, specially made to find the Solarizer and Lunarizer. According to the radar, the Solarizer is on an abandoned beach called... Sunset Star Beach."
"But, why would the Solarizer be at an abandoned beach?"
We all thought of the possibilities. Then, the answer hit me.
"I got it! You said that the Solarizer is at an abandoned beach, right?" I asked Diana.
"Yes, but where are you getting at with this?" she asked.
"Dr. Sun planted the Solarizer at an abandoned beach because he knew no one could go there and disturb it."
"You know, you just might be right. Let us grab the boys so we can find the Solarizer."
We walked to the boys' room to get them. As we got them, we explained to them where the Solarizer is.
"An abandoned beach, eh? Maybe if we're lucky, we might find some buried treasure," Hunter said.
"Hold your horses, Captain Hunter. We can't just skip the mission to go treasure hunting." Maddie said, pulling his ear.
"OW! Geez, I was only joking, Maddie. Why, you can't take a joke?"
"They don't call him 'Hunter' for nothing." Austin said, laughing to himself.
"That's the only thing he's after. With his sneaky stealth, he could probably steal a pirate's treasure right off his ship without him knowing." Nathaniel said, laughing along.
These guys are so funny. I love being a part of this agency, because I get to be with these guys. Sure, they're a bit older than me, but we're like a family. Hunter, Austin, Maddie, and Nathaniel are my siblings, whereas Diana is the mother. I really love Diana. She's like a real mother to me. A mother who loves you, and doesn't always leave you alone and depend on other people to watch over you every summer.
When we got to the lobby, we asked around to see where the Sunset Star Beach was. Many people said that the beach was haunted, others said it was an illusion, others said it wasn't even real, and others simply didn't know. But one elderly man came to me and said,
"Sunset Star Beach is a forbidden place for locals to trespass. Sunset Star is a place of mystery, and will only accept strong and worthy people. Many have tried, and none of them returned. The ocean there is black, as well as the sand because of the darkness that were in the people that have tried to change the beach back to its normal state,"
"Really? Sounds scary." I said.
"You and your friends are the key to bring back Sunset Star Beach. Here, take this."
He handed me a piece of paper, with the address to the beach.
"Thank you so much for your-"
I looked up, and the man was gone. I looked around, but the elderly man was nowhere to be found. I shrugged, and met back up with the rest of the Elite Five.
"Guys, I know where Sunset Star Beach is!" I said.
"That's great. Who told you?" Austin asked.
"An old man told me, but we can't get to the beach unless the beach sees that we are worthy."
They all looked at me like I was crazy.
"I'll explain on the way. Come on, there's no time to waste!" I said.
We ran out the door to Sunset Star Beach. As we got closer, I explained to them why we needed to be worthy.
"If you're trying to scare me Gene, you're doing a great job at it." Hunter said, shaking a little.
"That's what the old man told me. If we can walk on the sand, without disintegrating, the sand and water should change back to its normal color." I explained.
"We are all in this together. If one falls, we all fall. Let us do it." Diana said firmly.
We all took a deep breath, and walked on the sand. We didn't disintegrate. It was a miracle. With every step we took, the black sand was turning back into its white color. I walked toward the black sea, and touched it. The ocean started to change into a similar color like my suit. Sunset Star Beach was back to normal.
"Wow, it's so beautiful!" Maddie said.
"Still, can't believe this beach was all black before. We really are worthy." Austin said.
"Yes, it is very pretty, but let us save the small talk for later. We need to find the Solarizer." Diana said.
We looked everywhere, but couldn't find it.
"This does not make any sense. The radar said it was right here at Sunset Star Beach. Where can it be?" Diana asked herself in frustration.
I walked around with Nathaniel on the beach to see if we can find the Solarizer. Then, I tripped over something under the sand, and fell.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
"Yeah, I'm okay." I said.
He offered his hand, and I took it. I looked back on what I tripped on, and saw a piece of metal.
"I think we found the Solarizer." I said.
"That's great. I'll call the rest of the Elite Five." Nathaniel said.
Nathaniel took out his communicator and called the rest. In minutes time, Diana, Austin, Maddie, and Hunter were here.
"So you're saying the Solarizer is under the sand?" Maddie asked.
"Looks like we'll be doing a lot of digging." Hunter said.
"Maybe we won't have to." I said.
I took out my electric whip and turned it on. I whipped the sand so the whip would be buried in it. I then ran around and around in a circle. I gave one, big, powerful whip to kick up the sand. The sand flew in the air and rained down on us. I whipped up the grains of sand until they turned into atoms. Under the sand was exactly my prediction: the Solarizer. I turned off my whip and put it back on my utility belt.
"See, no digging," I said.
"That was some quick thinking, Gene. I didn't know you can use spy gadgets like that." Austin said.
"Spy gadgets, gear, or weapons are not just for fighting evil, they can be helpful and useful tools as well."
"That was truly amazing. I knew you were the right girl for the job. Now, all we need to do is destroy the Solarizer." Diana said.
"Oh, I don't think you'll be able to do that, Ms. Diana." said a voice behind us.
We turned around and there were twelve Dr. Sun grunts, wearing black suits with a black and yellow sun on their chests.
"Looks like we got company." Nathaniel said.
"Let's take care of these goons so we can get back to our mission." Hunter said.
We activated our gadgets and charged at them. The grunts fought very hard, but we fought harder.
This is my first fight, and I'm loving it!
"GENEVIEVE, DESTROY THE SOLARIZER... NOW!" Diana cried out.
I did as told, and ran to the Solarizer. I took out my whip and turned it on. When I tried to move, I felt like something was holding me back. I turned around and saw a grunt having me in a headlock.
"Sorry, but that's not going to work." he said.
"Get off!" I said, thrashing around.
I struggled to break free, but he was too strong.
"GET OFF HER!" cried a voice.
I turned, and saw Nathaniel running towards me.
"GENE, DUCK!" he cried.
I ducked my head, as Nathaniel did a roundhouse kick to the grunt's head. He lost his grip and let me go. Nathaniel stood over him and shot a tranquilizer dart at him.
"Why don't you take a nap?" Nathaniel asked.
In seconds, the grunt was out cold.
Now's my chance!
I gave one, big, powerful whip to the Solarizer. The power shorted out, and it exploded. Nathaniel held onto me during the aftermath. When it was over, I looked up at him, and smiled.
"Thanks for the help, Nathaniel." I said.
"No problem. Glad I could help." Nathaniel said smiling back.
He let me go, and the rest of the Elite Five came over.
"Are you two alright?" Maddie asked.
"We're fine, and the first part of Mission Eclipse is complete." Nathaniel said.
"Mission accomplished!" I said.
I've always wanted to say that!
"I'm glad you two are okay. And even more glad that the Solarizer is destroyed. Dr. Sun will not be able to fulfill his plan now, thanks to you, Genevieve." Diana said.
"Yeah, you were awesome," Hunter said, leaning on my shoulder.
"Hey! I'm still exhausted from that fight, so don't put anymore pressure on me!" I said, pinching at his side.
"Hey, don't do that! I'm sensitive."
"Sorry."
We all laughed at Hunter's reaction.
"Well, now that we finished the first part of Mission Eclipse, what can we do?" Maddie asked.
"Well, the sun is setting, so we can't do anything fun now." Austin said.
"Maybe tomorrow we can do something fun. Go to other beaches, go to an amusement park, something we can do together." Diana said.
"That's a great idea. Let's head back to the hotel and get some rest, so we can have a lot of energy tomorrow." I suggested.
We nodded in agreement. We raced back to the hotel to get some sleep. We walked to our rooms and went to sleep. The next day, we all got up and got dressed for some fun in the sun. We walked on the boardwalk, and went to an amusement park. We went on many rides and played a lot of games. There was even a magic show. Austin was called to be a part of it. It was the saw-the-person-in-half trick. It was hilarious. Austin almost fainted, just at the sight of the saw.
Between you and me, out of all of us here, Diana had the most fun. She was like a little kid on a sugar rush.
After the amusement park, we went to another beach at Azure Bay City: Prismarine Beach. It was beautiful. In the sun, when the angle is just right, the sea would change colors from blue to indigo, from indigo to icy blue. It was absolutely stunning. The boys went surfing, Diana basked in the sun's rays, and Maddie and I built a sandcastle. After that, we had a little water fight.
Boys vs. Girls. The girls won, of course.
That night, we went to a party on the boardwalk. It was awesome. There were fireworks, games, and a live show of my favorite band: The Beacon Girls. Hannah and I love that band. I made sure I got a video on my phone to show her when I got home. I went on my own to the shore of Prismarine Beach. Then, a butler came up to me and asked,
"Would you like a postcard, ma'am?"
I nodded and took the postcard. It had a picture of one of the other beaches here at Azure Bay City: Ocean Lily Beach. I put it in my pocket so I can send it to grandma.
Well, she did ask me to send her one.
Then, Nathaniel walked next to me.
"The moon looks so beautiful tonight," he started.
"Yeah," I said kind of sadly.
"This is your first big trip like this, right?"
"It's my first trip for a mission, but no. I've been almost everywhere I can think of: the Opal Rainforest, Kale Beach Resort, Ilia, Nohr, I've been to places not many have seen."
"Your parents must really love you to take you to those places."
"The thing is... I didn't go to those places because of my parents, it was my friends. Sometimes, they always take me and my little sister, Hannah, somewhere with their families every summer, while my parents are always somewhere off on a business trip. I never get to spend anytime with them. They couldn't even be here for my graduation. You guys are like my family... a real family. You, Austin, Hunter, and Maddie are my siblings, and Diana is my mom. She's like a real mom to me, always there for me, picking me up when I'm down, build me up if I lose... she's amazing. If only my parents were like that."
I began to cry a little at the thought.
"I swear, Mom and Dad are going to pay for what they're doing to Gene, and our family. They just make me so mad whenever they're not around. Heck, I even forgot what they look like, because they're never around. When the time is right, I'll buy a house so grandma, Hanny, Gene, and I can live together, away from our parents. It's a dark thought, but it's for the best. If they can't be around their children to take care of them, why have us at all?"
"I'm sorry to hear that. I know they mean well, but... in my opinion, I don't think it's right to just abandon their child like that," Nathaniel said.
"I wouldn't call it abandoning, I just call it... leaving. Abandoning is an understatement. But they can't help it... they work so hard 24/7, nonstop. I just...want my parents... to notice me. Ever since Hannah was born, they completely forgot about us. My older brother, Nathan and I have always took care of each other. Our grandmother, Juliet, comes to look after us every summer. I would give anything to spend at least just one day with them... just one. I love them, but how can you love someone when they're never around to show it?" I asked sadly.
I couldn't hold back. The tears streamed down my face, landing on the sand. Nathaniel pulled me in close, and embraced me.
"Its okay. Your parents love you, I know they do. I mean, where did you get this beautiful necklace from?" he asked.
"My parents..." I said, cupping my hands over it.
"It was a graduation gift, wasn't it?"
"It was..."
"See? Your parents still love you. Sapphire is your birthstone I'm guessing. Even though they couldn't be there for your graduation, they're still close to you at heart."
He gave a light kiss on my head. His warm touch calmed me right down. I gave Nathaniel a big hug.
"Thank you..." I said softly.
"Let's head back to the hotel. The rest of the Elite Five are probably wondering where we are." Nathaniel said.
We walked back to the hotel, under a silver spotlight from above. We walked inside and went to our rooms. Maddie and Diana were asleep when I walked in to check on them. I sat down at my vanity and took out the postcard and began to write.
Dear Grandma, Nathan, and Hannah,
I'm doing just fine here in Altea. My friends and I are having a blast here. We went to an amusement park, beach, and a boardwalk party. Miss you much.
XOXO,
Genevieve
I put it in the mailbox on this floor and went back to my room. I climbed into bed, and fell asleep. The next day came, and we gathered our things and headed out the hotel and walked to the Jade Rainforest. We walked to the cave and went in the jet.
"Where to, Ms. Diana?" Leon asked.
"Frelia." Diana said.
In minutes, we were above the clouds once more. The sun's rays were painting my face with a bright yellow. In a few hours, we were back home in Frelia. We walked in the foyer, and all the spies looked at us. It was silent. My voice broke the silence.
"The Solarizer is destroyed!" I said.
Everyone applauded and cheered. I said goodbye to the my friends, and went back upstairs to my bedroom. I walked out my room and peeked in my grandma's room. She was still sleeping. I walked in and shook her.
"Grandma, I'm home." I said.
Her eyes slowly opened. She saw me and smiled. She turned over and kissed me on the cheek. Then, she brought out the postcard I sent her.
"I'm guessing you had a nice trip?" she asked casually.
"You did tell me to send you a postcard." I said.
I left her room and went to Hannah's room. She was awake.
"Hey Hannah." I said.
She looked up at me and smiled.
"Glad you're back okay," she said.
"Good to be back. Also, I have something to show you." I said, sitting next to her on her bed.
"What?"
I took out my phone and showed her the video I took of the Beacon Girls at the party. She got jealous, but she was still happy. I walked to Nathan's room, and saw him writing something.
"Hey Nate.... I'm home." I said.
He turned around and I could see a tear stream down his cheek. He got up and walked over to me. He embraced me very tightly, but I didn't care.
"Welcome home... Gene."
Those three days in Altea were amazing! I completed my first mission. The Solarizer is destroyed. It's a start, but we just need to destroy the Lunarizer in Nifl. In the next two days, we're going to Nifl to do just that. Can't wait to see what Nifl looks like. I bet it's going to be nothing but beautiful ice and glistening snow. This is Agent Genevieve signing off.
