An All-Star Astronomer Meeting
Hey there, I'm Genevieve Davis, but you can call me Gene for short. I'm sixteen, and I have navy blue hair and dark pink eyes. I'm an honors-student at Curtis King High School in Frelia. I get straight A's in all my classes and somewhat popular around boys. I have two amazing friends who always help me no matter what: Vincent Knight and Emily Goldstein. I have this passion for astronomy and spy agencies. I really want to become a spy when I'm older, and an astronomer. But my parents, Felix and Miranda, want me to follow in their footsteps and become a lawyer like them.
BORING!
Vincent and Emily always tell me to follow my heart, and I always do. To be honest, my friends are more supportive than my parents. Literally every summer, my parents are always going on a business trip, and my bratty little sister, Hannah and I, our grandmother comes to look after us, or we go on vacation with Vincent's or Emily's family. Our parents never have time for me and Hannah. Right now I'm at my favorite café with Vincent and Emily. It's called Café La Rose.
"So, what are you going to do this summer once we graduate, Gene?" Emily asked.
"Probably have my grandma come over and watch us, or maybe somewhere with you guys," I explained.
"Yeah, about that. You can't come with us this summer I'm afraid," Vincent said.
"Why not?"
"My grandparents just got a new house and they would really love it if we came over to see it. Sorry."
"It's okay, I get it. Family first. Just tell them that I congratulated them, okay?"
"Yeah, from me, too."
"Will do."
I smiled and turned to Emily.
"So, can I come with your family Em?" I asked.
"Maybe, I don't know. My parents are out for the whole summer in Cadron and I'll be staying with my older brothers, Glenn and Sigurd. I have to see what my brothers and parents say," Emily said.
"I'm taking that as a no."
"Well, you know those two bozos have a massive crush on you, and if I bring you to them, that is something I'll deeply regret."
"Yeah, but I have a Knight here to protect me."
I hugged Vincent and looked up at him.
"Don't worry, my princess, I'll protect you." Vincent said, trying to sound heroic.
We continued to have our fun time together until it was time to go. Vincent and Emily walked home, whereas I walked to Hannah's school to pick her up. When I got there, she was waiting for me outside. She saw me and gave me a gruesome look. I rolled my eyes and continued to walk home, with Hannah following me.
"Took you long enough to get here," said the twelve-year-old redhead.
"Hey, cut me some slack. I lost track of time," I scolded.
"That's your excuse for everything! One of these days, I'll be walking home on my own, without you."
"Ha, good luck getting lost."
I always joke around with her. I can just tell that even though she's still giving me the cold shoulder, she's trying her best not to laugh. Also, tonight was very special, because the astronomy club from school was coming over to work on a special presentation. Their really good friends of mine: Calem, Harriet, Brendan, Delia, and Damien. Harriet is the tech genius in the group, and she made an invention to scan the stars and constellations, and deposit those scans onto a hologram. It's just like a computer, copy and paste. It's called the Star Scanner. When we got home, it was quiet.
"Mom, dad. We're home." I called out.
No answer.
"Maybe they're not home." Hannah said.
"I think you're right." I said.
Usually when my parents are home, phones are ringing left and right and parents pacing back and forth. But the house has never been so quiet. Then, I saw a note on the side table.
Girls, we are out for a little while because we had to meet with someone for dinner. You can eat whatever is in the fridge.
Love, Mom
I rolled my eyes and sat on the couch. Hannah sat next to me and laid her head on my lap. I stroked her head, as if I were petting a cat. Then, there was a knock at my door.
"It's us!" cried a familiar voice.
It was Damien. Hannah sat up from my lap and leaned back on the couch. I got up and walked to the door. As I opened it, I saw five bright smiles and heavy equipment. I let them in and we headed to the backyard. Hannah got up and joined us. When we walked outside, the crisp summer breeze filled the skys. We put the equipment down on the grass and started to set it up. It was dark and all of the stars were out, dancing and twinkling in the sky.
"So, did you bring the Star Scanner, Harriet?" I asked eagerly.
"I sure did." Harriet said.
She took off her backpack and took out the Star Scanner. It was a perfect night to use it, too. Every single star and constellation was out. A perfect format to use the Star Scanner.
"We still have last week's scans, so I would say, if we can get four to five more scans, our All-Star Universe will be complete." Calem said.
"That's good. So, shall we begin?" I asked.
"Ready!" they shouted.
Brendan took out the hologram and turned it on. Delia took out the All-Star laptop and connected it to the hologram.
"Everything is ready to go, Gene." Delia said.
"Great work everyone. Now, we just need to scan the stars and constellations." I said.
I turned towards Hannah, who was helping Damien set up a camera.
"Hannah," I called out.
"Yeah, what is it?" she asked.
"Would you like to scan the stars?"
"Yes! I would love to!"
Harriet handed her the scanner, and Hannah held it up to the sky. We directed her to where we want our scan, and a bright blue beam lit up the sky. Hannah was aesthetic. It was her first time scanning stars. We did a few more scans until we had enough for our hologram.
"I think we have everything we need for our presentation. Let me just save the scanner's files and put in the code..." Delia said, as she typed away on the laptop.
"Success! We did it! Our presentation is as good as gold!" Delia announced.
We all cheered. We took the equipment inside and had a toast.
"A toast, to our two month project success!" I said.
We raised our cups and toasted. After that, we decided to test our invention. I turned it on and the mini box started to glow. Then, a hologram surrounded us, and our hard work was right before our eyes. It was beautiful. I turned it off and placed it into Delia's backpack.
"We'll show our presentation on graduation day." I proclaimed.
"Got it. I'll do a thurl checkup to make sure everything is working properly. I'll have it ready by then." Delia said.
We waved goodbye, and I locked the door. I turned around to see Hannah sleeping on the couch.
Guess all that scanning did a number on her.
I walked over and I picked her up. I carried her in my arms and walked to her room and laid her on the bed. Hannah is a very heavy sleeper. I left her and went back to the kitchen. I took out my phone and called my mom. It's almost midnight, and they're not home. I'm getting worried. She answered.
"Hey, mom. Where are you? It's almost midnight and you guys aren't home yet. I was getting worried," I explained.
"Sorry, sweetie. But our meeting took longer than I expected. Your dad and I are on our way home now. Just go to bed, honey, okay?" my mom asked.
"Okay. Goodnight."
"Goodnight, dear."
I hung up the phone and I went to bed.
Today has been amazing, yet hectic. I'm so happy we finished the presentation in time, and I'm graduating in two months. I'm soon going to be in college. And summer vacation is right on our graduation day, so who knows what Principal Priscilla has in store for us. I can't wait until I graduate, because once I'm in college, I will make my future dreams a reality.
