Once upon a time, there was a typical young college student named Nelly, who waitressed at a coffee shop. Until one day she accidentally spilled a scalding hot cappuccino... onto the lap of gorgeous brown-eyed boy. So to make it up to him, she drove him to the hospital... where she accidentally slammed his leg in her car door. Once she helped him limp into a hospital room... she accidentally caused him to walk headfirst into an IV pole. But despite it all, Johnny regained consciousness and was struck by Nelly's beauty... even though he had to spend their first date with a cast on his arm, a gaze around his forehead and burn ointment slathered all over his... basement area.

But no matter how rocky and accident-prone the start of their relationship was, Johnny and Nelly became very close. They found they had a lot of things in common. They liked the same music, art, books and they taught each other brand new things the other didn't. Johnny taught Nelly how to play an acoustic guitar and Nelly taught Johnny to ballroom dance. And finally it got to the point where Johnny found Nelly to be the most attractive, utterly desirable and downright irresistible thing he ever saw. So he did what any man in his position would do. He asked her to... have sex with him. One date later he also asked Nelly to marry him. The two lovebirds went on to have a lovely wedding, along with a magical honeymoon and moved into a quaint suburban neighborhood. And soon afterwards, Johnny and Nelly finally decided to take the next step in their life... by creating new life!

Suffice it to say, the honeymoon phase ended as soon as Baby Juniper came home. Johnny and Nelly were first-time parents and up to their eyeballs in sleepless nights, dirty diapers and confusing parenting books that told them all the millions of ways they could screw up their kid. Luckily, Johnny's mother called and asked to come over and see the baby. She didn't even get a chance to finish the question before the sleep-deprived pair shouted YES!

Johnny walked into their bedroom to find Nelly brushing out her tangled dark brown locks. The lovely beauty of twenty-six years looked worn out, with dark bags under her eyes, greasy skin and she was tired... that was an understatement. Exhausted was more like it.

"Where's the baby?" Johnny asked her.

"Your mom's watching her downstairs, so I can hop in the shower" Nelly answered. "Finally... I've been wearing the same sweatpants for a week."

"Don't you think you think it's wrong for us to have my mom taking care of our baby?" Johnny asked. "I mean it's only been two weeks since the baby was born and we're already depending on our parents?"

That thought struck a nerve in Nelly, without thinking she turned to Johnny and glared at him...

What happened next shocked and frightened both of them. When Nelly glared at Johnny, an invisible force seemed to shove him backwards. Johnny tripped over a basket of laundry behind him and fell, his head going right through the drywall behind him.

Nelly screamed in concern. His head went right through the wall! My God, had she killed him?! Or paralyzed him?! At the very least she probably gave him a concussion!

Nelly didn't even turn her head when Johnny's mother came bounding up the stairs and into their bedroom. Her eyes widened with concern as she saw her son unconscious with his skull through the wall.

"What happened?" Mrs. Clark asked.

"I-I don't know..." Nelly stuttered. "He said something dumb and... a-all I did was turn and glare at him! I swear to God, I didn't even touch him! I glared at him and he just flew backwards and--"

Johnny groaned and stood up from his accident.

"Johnny!" Nelly cried running to help him up. "Johnny! Sweetie, are you alright?"

"I... I am?" Johnny said in confusion. "It's funny, I thought my head went through the wall for a second there..." he chuckled.

"Honey..." Nelly nodded behind him.

Johnny turned and saw the hole in the drywall where his skull went through. "What the hell?!" He exclaimed. "Am I dead? What the... How am I okay? I should be dead? Or paralyzed?" He turned to Nelly. "What did you do to me?"

"Nothing! I mean I didn't mean to do anything to you!" Nelly shook her head, tears forming in her eyes. "I don't know what happened? All I did was look at you!"

"You used The Glare" Mrs. Clark told her. She turned to her son "And you're still alive because of your newly indestructible bone structure!"

"What?" Johnny looked up at her. "Mom, I know I didn't become the doctor you wanted me to. But I know it's impossible to have an indestructible bone structure."

"And what do you mean by The Glare?" Nelly asked her.

"It's a good thing I arrived when I did" Mrs. Clark took both of them by the hand. "Johnny... Nelly... both of you have just had your superpowers awakened."

After putting Baby Juniper down for her afternoon nap, Mrs. Clark sat down at the dining room table and began to explain what was going on with Nelly and her son in more detail.

"We Clark's are a blessed family" She began. "When a person in our family and someone who married into our family becomes parents, things change for them... and not in the way it does for other people. After producing an offspring, we gain abilities that are beyond that of any normal parents."

Johnny and Nelly exchanged a nervous, but curious glance. Were it not for what just took place upstairs in their bedroom, they might not believe what Mrs. Clark was telling them. And yet, there seemed to be no other explanation.

"How is that possible though?" Nelly asked.

"The Clark family has always had a genetic mutation within our bloodline" Mrs. Clark explained. "When each generation finally finds a spouse and falls in love, endorphins are released within us. Which awakens our mutation gene. Then when your first child arrives, there's more love and soon after the mutation gene fully evolves, causing you to have superpowers. Think of it like... parental puberty."

"So if it's only in the Clark family" Johnny questioned. "Why is it effecting Nelly? She's only family by marriage..." He turned to his wife. "...No offense."

Nelly shrugged it off.

"Because Nelly carried your child" His mother explained. "For the past nine months, she grew a new hope for the Clark Clan within her. C'mon John, I explained this to you when you were a teenager! When two people make a baby their genes...?"

"...End up on the floor!" Johnny guessed.

Mrs. Clark swatted him upside the head. "Pool! Your gene's pool when you make a baby!" She told her son. "Good lord! I swear the boy grew into a man, but his brain stopped developing at thirteen years. Now where was I...?"

"I got superpowers because our gene's pooled?" Nelly reminded her.

"Oh yes, yes!" Mrs. Clark nodded. "So while baby Juniper was developing inside you, your body also retained the genetic mutation from Johnny's side of the family."

"Follow me..." Mrs. Clark stood up and took an plastic card from her purse.

She walked up to the staircase behind them and tapped the card against the bulkhead of the stair railing. The flight of stairs immediately lifted up to reveal a trapdoor under the stairs. And the stairs extended down to a secret liar below.

"I thought our realtor said this place didn't come with a basement?" Johnny asked.

"It didn't" His mother said. "But the family got together and installed one while you were at the hospital with the baby. Figured it would come in handy for you two to have your own Hideaway."

"And you wanted a man cave..." Nelly smirked at Johnny.

Nelly and Johnny followed Mrs. Clark down the steps and into the hidden room. As she switched on the lights, Johnny and Nelly's eyes widened, there was an entire gym with weight sets, treadmills and stationery bikes! A laboratory that looked big and advanced enough to belong to NASA and one corner was filled with superhero gadgets and a big screen supercomputer!

"This is amazing..." Nelly breathed.

"But Mom... what are we supposed to do with these superpowers?" Johnny asked.

"The same thing the Clark's have done with their powers for generations..." Mrs. Clark explained.

"...You're going to be parents."

Under the training of Mrs. Clark, Johnny and Nelly learned to hone their new abilities and use it in their everyday lives.

Aside from them both having the power of flight, Nelly practiced harnessing the Glare, learning that it was the ability to make people do whatever she wanted, just by staring them down. Temper tantrums came and went so easily with that. Nelly also received Telekinesis, to move objects with her mind, she was very grateful for that when baby Juniper almost rolled off the changing table that one time. And most useful was the mental ability of her Global Positioning Sensory System-- Or GPSS. She could mentally locate her daughter at any time in any place. Which became convenient once she started to crawl... and then walk... and then run.

Simultaneously, Johnny discovered he had super strength, which he used to rip the driver side door off the family car when two year old Juniper locked herself inside. His heat vision feature did wonders when Nelly was working late and couldn't make dinner. Who knew you could cook a Meatloaf in just five minutes! Not only was his bone structure indestructible, but also his skin... although it still hurt when he stepped on one of the kids leftover Lego pieces.

Things were such a breeze with their training and June, they soon add another addition to their family with baby number two, Lucy.

Johnny and Nelly felt twice blessed, both because of their family and the newly acquired superpowers that came with it. A lot of times, their powers made childcare a breeze. But Mrs. Clark informed them both that these powers did not come easy. The last thing she told them was the most crucial rule there was. The only condition to their powers was never let your power's be exposed...

...Not even to your children.
