The First X-Baby

The cloaked figure took a giant leap and landed in front of Peter. "Peter Hecks, so glad to meet you at last."

"You're a NoHead, aren't you?" Peter inquired.

"I am the leader of them all--Mr. Stupid NoHead!"

"But how did you know me?" Peter asked.

"You are the 'latest news flash!' I knew you were a danger to me from the beginning, ever since Rotta got pregnant." He raised his arms. "I will not tolerate you much longer!" Blue lightning fired from his hands and blasted Peter across the air, knocking him into the balcony of an apartment. NoHead cackled. "Long have I dreaded this confrontation. Now your failure is complete!" He stepped forward, and Peter quickly got up and surprised NoHead with a powerful telekinetic thrust. NoHead went flying through the door of the apartment connected to the balcony and crashed into a chair.

"Your terror is at its end," Peter told the NoHead. "As is the fate of your tribe!"

NoHead launched toward the end of the balcony, but Peter reached the end before him, thus blocking his path. "So that's what you were after!" Peter spotted a hover jet below the balcony. "Nice try!" He pulled out his sword and ignited its energy shell, to be met by NoHead's blade.

This villain sure is strong, Peter thought as their swords whirled and clashed and whirled again. It should not have been a surprise--his training was not yet complete and his opponent was the master of the world's most dangerous tribe of villains. He remembered Zett's words: Focus. Use your powers to your fullest... He pressed his attack, driving NoHead into the apartment and into an elevator. Their swords crossed as the elevator rose, until a door opened in the roof and NoHead leaped out. Peter was quick to follow. I've got to end this! Peter redoubled the speed of his attacks. NoHead parried one, then another--and then his sword spun out of his hands. Peter raised his weapon for the final blow.

Electricity spat from NoHead's pale fingers, surrounding Peter in a blue cloud of energy. But Peter had his own gadget ready--he held out two tubes that absorbed the lightning. He'd never told Zett or Sheriff Bladepoint about these! But to do this he had to stop his intended strike. Once his initial surprise was gone, he threw back the lightning at his attacker. But NoHead held out his hand, holding off the bolts. Then he hurled more lightning, which Peter's tubes blocked. The Dark Lord backed away, toward the edge of the roof. Following him was like walking against hurricane winds. Never had Peter faced one so strong in the dark side.

Before he came close within reach, a strong ball of energy knocked Peter toward the other end of the roof. He threw the lightning back at the Dark Lord, knocking him off the roof. He landed, on his feet, on a smaller skyscraper. As he climbed to his feet, a large antenna soared past him. Before he knew it, Peter sent more objects flying at him with his telekinesis.

This game, two can play. NoHead reached out with his own telekinesis and seized a filled trash bag. He hurled it at Peter, who barely dodged it in time. Then he leaped, using the flying objects to reach Peter's position. Once he reached the building, he fired another blast of blue lightning that knocked Peter's sword out of his hand. Now only their powers could help them prevail.

NoHead summoned more lightning to his bidding, Peter caught it with his tubes. The lightning built into a glowing ball, ready to throw back at NoHead the moment his attack stopped. But NoHead didn't stop; the lightning came in a steady crackle, building more and more, until NoHead could barely hold the beam, and Peter's tubes started to overload.

The blast knocked them both off the roof. Peter landed much sooner than he thought; he crashed against a lightning rod attached to the house behind him. NoHead wasn't so lucky; he fell off the roof and slammed into the ground 10 feet below. Dazed by his fall, NoHead didn't even notice Peter climbing down from the building until his sword was pointed at his eyes.

"Spare me! Let me live!" NoHead shrieked. "I'll do anything! I'll give you anything! Anything you want!"

Peter struggled with himself, but he had no intention to kill the unarmed. "Get out," he growled. "Run away, and never return to our fair city!" He held his sword up to his chest in a blocking motion, a stance Sheriff Bladepoint had taught him.

NoHead got up, activated his jetpack, and soared away and into the sky. It wasn't until he was out of sight that Peter detracted his sword and stuck it between his belt and his waist.

Peter stood before Sheriff Bladepoint's desk.

"Peter Hecks, your training is complete," he said.

"What did you say?!"

"You no more training. You already know what you need to know. You have proven yourself...a true Super. But don't worry, you can handle it!"

The police helped Peter build an elaborate home, big enough to hold the Supers who Peter might train. Peter let Zett name it. He called it the MBH--the Mutant Baby Home. Now he knew there were others, and he was determined to find them all. Now he had a new name--Baby Intelligence--and a new destiny.
