prologue

"thoughtseer, you've arrived."

"im afraid i bring news more important than our usual meetings discuss, elevation."

"and what is that?"

"a prophecy."

the crimson scales along evelation's back glittered like rubies in the moonlight, "a prophecy?" he echoed, shock clear in his voice.

"yes. my fellow nightwings and i have spoken about it many times, yet we only have guesses as to what i means." thoughtseer's tailtip tapped against the rock anxiously. "my clawmates have already informed the queens."

"then tell me. any information that comes from the night kingdom is very important to have here at the academy." evelation looked at the nightwing, inching closer with warm eyes.

"you mustn't tell the dragonets, not yet. not until the meaning is known." thoughtseer cut in, voice rising, tail thumping against the ledge where they sat.

evelation blinked, "calm down, thoughtseer. we wont. only the other teachers will know of this."

that seemed to calm the nightwing, and he cleared his throat before speaking.

"when the sun falls for the final time,
beware silver eyes that foresee crime,
and when darkness spreads across the land,
beware the winds that bring forth wings of sand.

as the mountain of jade breaks and shatters,
be quick to flee from the stone-covered tatters.
take to the sky and fly away fast,
do not stay to see mistakes from the past.

when the sky comes crashing down,
the king of night shall lose his crown.
a hybrid born from mud and rain
shall come forth to end the pain.

she is coming."

for a moment, both dragons sat in silence. then evelation spoke.

"so... the mountain of jade, hm?"

"yes, the mountain of jade. most of the nightwings who know about the prophecy believe it means jade mountain academy, and the wings of sand obviously mean sandwings, but we're clueless as to what everything else is about. we don't know if the academy will physically be destroyed or if there'll be a fight, or the mistakes of the past, or-"

evelation swept his tail across thoughseer's lips, silencing the nightwing, "shhh," he murmured in a pleasant voice, "you're rambling again." thoughtseer sighed and tilted his head down, "sorry."

"don't be sorry, you're frightened. that's normal. all dragons get frightened." evelation gently stroked thoughtseer's back with his wing, sweeping his tail back around his talons.

"but, nightwings are supposed to be intelligent and we're supposed to know everything..." thoughtseer's voice faded away as evelation wrapped his red tail around the nightwing's.

"thoughtseer, calm down. everything's going fine in pyrrhia right now. why fret over a prophecy that may not be important for thousands of years?" evelation touched his nose to thoughtseer's.

the dark-colored dragon sighed, then wrapped a white-flecked wing around evelation, "im glad we met."

the skywing nodded, "me too."
