Chapter Nine
I reappeared on one of the many support beams crossing the ceiling. I looked at myself and cursed quietly. I was back to my dress and long hair, with a ton of jewelry. I rolled my eyes and snapped almost noiselessly. My backpack appeared, and I dug through it, pulling out the clothes that I needed. I carefully walked along the beam, but my dress kept rustling. I burnt the hem off, up to my knees. I reached a dark corner and pulled a black tank on over my strapless dress. I pulled on a red t-shirt with black flame designs over that, and tugged red boy skinny jeans up under my dress. I zipped up my hoodie over the ensemble, with the skirt of my dress sticking out the bottom of my hoodie, over my jeans. I burned it away, along with the heels, and put on my usual black Osiris shoes with red accents. I shrugged on my backpack and grabbed my staff. I went to crumple to ash like usual, but the ground became very cold and slippery. I hovered an inch in the air, above the ice, and sneered. I felt uneasy, suddenly, and not just because I knew Jack was watching me. I really wanted to look behind me on the beam, but I didn't want them to know I was onto... whoever it was. I walked forward, then backfliped, kicking the person's head and knocking them down on the beam. I stepped on their back and pulled an arm behind them, twisting it severely. Then I looked at who it was.
It was Pitch.
I rolled my eyes and groaned. "Get lost, bitch. Nobody likes you, and with good reason. Now quit stalking teenagers!" I kicked him in the side and he fell off the beam, slamming into the ground so hard, I winced. "Oops."
"Oops? That was awesome!" Jack flew up next to me, looking excited.
"Oh yeah? Well what was not awesome was being tricked into a cage and being forced to FREEZE MY WAY OUT!" My hands clenched into fists. "NOT! FUNNY!" Before I knew what I was doing, I kicked him in the chest, knocking him away from me. I covered my mouth with my hand, eyes wide, and snuck away to another beam. I leaned against the wall, my legs shaking, and slid down slowly. I closed my eyes and breathed, something I had forgotten to do. Without my noticing, my hair had burst into flames and was slowly burning the wall. When I smelled ash, I smiled, then realized why there was ash. I extinguished my hair and made a face at the wall. "Stupid wood." I stood, brushing a mixture of ash and Nightmare sand off me. I snorted and melted the sand. "Idiot. Great, and now I get to go back to the Fire Kingdom and go on a stupid date with someone I don't even know. Just great." I swung my staff over my shoulder and hopped down. I waved at the Guardians. "I would love to decline your offer of becoming a Guardian again, but I have work to do, a kingdom to run, and a blind date to go on against my will. So goodbye and good riddance." I spun and was about to disintegrate into ash, and as I did so, I saw Tooth throw her arms around Jack's neck and kiss him on the mouth. My chest burned with fury but I held it back. "And remember, Guardians of Childhood shouldn't go around snogging in front of children!" I yelled before sinking through the floor. I let the wind whisper a message for me as I disappeared. I see you finally found a girlfriend. And you proved me wrong. Good job, numbskull. I'm proud of you.
