Night on Fire
Warm night full of twinkling stars, walking down the streets illuminated by a soft yellow light from the lamp posts, listening to music, enjoying the delicate breeze that kept gently messing my hair as if I was some Disney Princess.
Of course, I was the farthest thing from that, some would even claim that I was closer to being some sort of villain, perhaps, but I knew better I was none of those, even if I tried.
I am just a Fox.
A Fox who spends the whole night on top of some buildings, stealing WiFi and occasionally even transferring the money from the richer companies to my own card.
It's not like anyone would actually notice if the hacking is on point, right~?
The laptop clock soon showed ' 3 A.M. ' so I decided to get up and jump around to other roofs, heading home, when suddenly a taller figure landed a few feet in front of me, spreading out his majestic as hecc wings.
"Hello there, Bird Boy. Can I assume that you're some random Hero roaming the city? Don't worry, I'm no villain or something...Only if you want me to be, of course~." I slurred in a seductive voice, slowly prowling my way towards the blond and rather cute individual.
"Gotta admit, many hit on me, but neither as enticing as you. May I know the name the beauty in front of me?" he chuckled and put his hands in his pockets, looking at me with a relaxed smile.
"And how would you know, hun? You have some other Quirk to see how someone looks behind masks...And clothes, p'haps?" I said, a smirk on my face. I was starting to enjoy this night.
"Nahhh, I'm just some Chicken Wings guy, but I can sense beauty when I see it. Come on, if you tell me your name, I will take you for a ride around the city." he negotiated, extending his hand.
"How about you earn the right to know my name~? Make it a little game, see who's the fastest? From this end of the roof to the other building's end, who gets there fastest wins. Fair?" I challenged him, getting ready to take off.
"Okay, chickadee, but I count. Fair~?" he chuckled, spreading his wings and winking at me.
I was grinning like a cheshire cat, not having had so much fun in a long time, so as soon as the counter hit '3', I activated my fire quirk to empower my natural speed getting at the finish spot in the blink of an eye, then turned to look back and enjoy the shocked and defeated expression of the poor blond hero.
"What is it, hun? You don't like being left in the dust...And ashes?" Giggling softly, I approach him once again and dust the dirt on his jacket.
"Well, well, this mysterious lady sure has some aces up her sleeve. You won, what is it that this KFC boy can offer you?" he chuckles, ruffling his already messy hair.
"You did mention giving me a ride around the city, right~? To be fair, I CAN fly using fire...But it's only for a very short time, and it's more like I'm leaping, rather than flying. So, Chicken Wings, are you up for that?" smirking under my mask, I cross my arms and lean forward, slightly tilting my head to the side.
"That's all that you want from me? That's rather cute, if you ask me. Put your arms around my neck and hold on. Don't worry, I won't drop you." he grinned, picking me up from the ground and taking off high into the sky, as my eyes sparkled at the gorgeous display of the city at nighttime.
"This is...Much more beautiful than I expected. The city is so much more enticing with all these lights...The day just sheds light on all the crimes committed. It's rather sad, don't you think?" I muttered, rather absent-minded.
"Yeah, that's true. There are many bad things that keep happening everywhere and no amount of heroes can keep up with that. As long as bad guys exist, so will the good guys, and vice-versa. It's a never-ending vicious circle of doom." he said, solemnly.
"It's like the Joker and Batman, correct? How many times has the Joker taunted Batman for not having the courage to kill him, because if he were to stop existing, so would Batman? There would be no need for him if no villains were to terrorize Gotham, and thus, he'd be forgotten, no longer needed by people. Don't you think it's rather...Funny? How despite the fact that it's just a comic book, it reflects reality more than the average person can even begin to imagine?" sighing, I lean my head on his shoulder, looking up at the stars.
"The system is broken, I admit. Everything is, rather said, and yet, nobody wants to do anything about it. Everyone fell into platitude, knowing there are Heroes there to give up their lives freely for everyone else to have a happy life, and yet, that's not how things really go, which is why so many mistakes are made, and worse, so many are covered up and forgotten." he closed his eyes for a few seconds, then landed on the nearest, tallest building, where the view was the most breath-taking.
"I know. For so long, years now, I've been holding a burning grudge against these stupidly vain Heroes who think they own the world, just because they see themselves like some omnipotent Supermen or whatever. But hey...Maybe...If people like you exist...Then Hawks, maybe the fact that you're the #3 Hero means there is still hope for this world..." I said, going to the edge of the building, staring at the horizon, my hands clasped behind my back as I kept swinging back and forth.
"Oh, so you knew who I was from the very beginning, and yet you said nothing. How clever, little lady, I admire you." he chuckled, rather intrigued and curious of her thoughts.
"In a world full of people like Endeavour who think the world is either Black or White and Power is the only thing important in this world...You might just be what brings back understanding and goodness in this world. People out there need to realise that these useless Heroes are humans too, not just there to enforce rules and whatever...My sister died, Hawks. She was killed by villains, in the most unexpected place, while Heroes were there, and yet...Nobody could save her...And yet...Nobody heard of any promising U.A. student dying during her training, because it would be a terrible stain on the name of Heroes...So why...Why should I ever think about looking up to them? Why would others, who commit petty crimes out of necessity, but get treated the same as those who commit mass-slaughter? Why, Hawks, why are unlucky people, such as myself, in this situation?" turning around abruptly, I take off my mask, hanging it from my belt as I looked straight into his eyes, tears pooling up as I glared softly. "Nobody ever heard of Moeru Kasai or her death during Hero Practice, and nobody ever will, because All Might and Eraserhead were there to watch over us, but they couldn't save her! If anyone found out that Humanity's #1 Hope and a U.A. teacher let students be endangered and ever worse, allowed one to die, then nobody would let their stupid kids attends this ridiculous Academy anymore! How is that fair, Hawks?! They didn't even allow my family to hold a funeral, because it would attract attention! My father left us long ago and my mother hanged herself in the kitchen when she found out my sister died, leaving me all alone in this world. And what did the Heroes do? NOTHING! Not a DAMN thing! Villain, Hero, Civilian, does it even matter anymore? Is there even any difference anymore?" sighing and throwing my head back, looking at the starry sky, I shake my head, annoyed at the fact that I just poured my heart out to a complete stranger, but also rather at ease, for at least he seemed to get what I was saying.
"I have heard of her. I have heard of you as well, Moeru Kitsune. I am fighting against this flawed system every day, using my status, as best as I can, but it is true, very few want to change anything, 'cause they are all doing much too well the way it is. They hate any kind of change, if it means they lose perks, even if it's for the good of others...But I will tell you of a secret. All Might was a wreck after that incident. Many things happened since then, Kitsune, but All Might isn't a bad guy. He's not Endeavour, and he's not ignorant either. Eraserhead as well...That guy doesn't show any kind of emotion, but he fought the system to allow to funeral, but the Government interfered and they could do nothing about it. You're a good kid, don't let yourself be swept by hatred. You have a future ahead of you, countless opportunities. Don't let yourself become some petty hacker who lives off of stealing money from banks and all that, it's too low-key for your skills." he stated firmly, showing his sympathies for me.
"How...Do you know all this...? You may be a Hero, but you can't possibly know all this BECAUSE you're a Hero!" I asked, raising my voice, confused.
"Here's the thing, love. I'm a low-key guy who's best suited for underground stuff, m'kay? I know everything they don't want others to know, and that includes your very existence. They want you back at U.A., chickadee, you know that very well. You have a lot of potential and a good heart. I'm not saying you should go. What I'm saying is...Don't ruing your future because of past mistakes, hatred and grudges, okay? Who knows, I might just see you surpassing me on the list very soon." he shrugged, chuckling, seeing my face that betrayed the obvious conflict between my heart and my brain.
"Going back to U.A. you say...Huh...I burnt all the letters so far, and yet, they just keep coming back...Maybe...Well, who knows, Hawks? I'm just a Fox, y'know? That's what I've always heard. I'm nothing more than a Fox. A liar. A manipulator. A deceiver. A thief. I'm everything a villain should be...So why...Why should I even think about becoming a Hero? I'm no Hero material." biting my lip, I look away, flashes of my sister's excited face winding back into my head, remembering how enthusiastic she was when she first entered the U.A. campus and started her first lesson.
"You don't have to be a Hero if you don't want to. You can be anything you want. First of all, however, why don't you prove them wrong? Prove them that yes, you ARE a fox, but you are so much more than everything they say about you? You are no Villain, but you can use those traits to your own advantage. You'd be surprised how far they could get you, Kitsune. You have talent, use it well." putting his hands back in his jeans pockets, he looked at me, waiting for a reaction.
I bit my lip, thinking for a few seconds, then decided that I new what path to take, which made me chuckle darkly and smirk, putting back the mask on my face, bid Hawks off with a military salute, then let myself fall off the building's edge, and just as I got close to the ground, I activated my Fire Quirk enough to leap high into the air, getting around the city back home.
There was just a tiny problem that kept me from getting to my destination and that was the appearance of some glorious blue flames somewhere far to my right, which made me incredibly curious, as I found myself walking in that direction.
Blue flames...A fire so much more powerful than mine...A fire so much more powerful than even Endeavour's...
I soon found myself laughing at the irony, imagining Endeavour getting beaten up by a nobody with such a powerful Quirk.
But his body...My body...They are relatively fireproof...Or are they?
I approached one of the smaller flames and reached out to touch it, letting my hand get completely engulfed by the tingling sensation until it started to pinch enough to make my pain stimuli start going against this and pulled away, looking at the skin on my hand.
It was flawless, save for a little, barely observable burn on the tip of my finger.
I see...So this fire is so powerful that if I were exposed to it for a longer time, then I'd be completely cremated.
Cremated...Dead bodies get cremated...
Well, isn't this extremely aesthetic~?
Suddenly, I felt myself being pushed into the wall, a tall, dark haired man in front of me, both hands on either side of my head, as he looked down at me, slightly smirking.
"Hello there, Kabedon King. I can only assume you are the cool guy who did this masterpiece, correct?" I asked softly, shifting on my spot.
"Kabedon...King? Why, if I didn't know better, I'd say you were enjoying this." raising an eyebrow, he got closer to my face.
"It's not every day when a cute guy gets to talk to you out of his own volition, even more, get so intimate. Can't say I'm complaining." letting out an amused breath, I shrug and lean back on the wall, crossing my arms confidently.
"Huh...Never heard anyone react like this when they're cornered by a Villain. Aren't you afraid, little lady whose name I don't know?" giving me a question side smile, I put a hand on the side of my mask.
"Why, dear, my name is Beautiful, but you can just call me Yours, m'kay~?" saying that apparently made him chuckle and look away, clearly not having expected that. "Awww, don' tell me Kabedon King is a shy one! Don't tell me...A fire guy like you doesn't like fire girls? Come one, love, don't upset me~!" I said in a fake-whine, reaching my hand to touch his face, making him look down at me, the height difference rather considerable.
"I never met any fire girls before, but I can't complain either. Look, missy, I'm rather busy now, buy I wouldn't mind seeing you again. Tomorrow, same time, same place, and I'm all yours, how's that sound?" he chuckled, making his way out of the alley.
"Only if you offer me the same kind of greeting, Kabedon King! Better not disappoint me, or you won't even get to see what's hiding behind this pretty-pretty mask of mine." waving lazily, I turn on my heels and make my way back home, hands in my pockets, smirking in satisfaction.
This was surely a successful night and nothing could ever top it.
Well, perhaps tomorrow's night, but who knows?
This...Is the start of a new journey and hopefully, the end of a painful chapter.
It's time for a change and I'm finally ready to take myself to higher places and escape my cage.
I am Kitsune Moeru and I'm ready to finally live my life.
