3: Inner emotions
Initially, there remained an awkward vibe between us, most probably, because of me, while Jason always tried to ease the air and he made sure that both of us had fun. However, as our new friendship bloomed, before I knew it, Jason and I were kinda glued to each other, we did everything together, whether it be going to some coaching classes or it be engaging in some recreational activities such as going to watch movies or to amusement parks during our weekends. The time spent with him always went fast and inspite of not knowing much about each other, it was fun.
But one thing to be noted was that, sometimes in the middle of everything, Jason used to get a phone call and then he would apologise to me and leave. To be honest, I didn't mind much as, being an anti-social person, being by myself was kinda fun too but as the presence of Jason went on having a deeper impact on my life, I started to slowly feel lonely. When he would leave in the midst of us having fun, some negative emotions would creep inside of me, getting a stronghold of me, striving to surface everytime I was left alone.
So there came a point that I could no longer hold the curiosity or whatever emotions within me and that's why I followed him behind. As I tiptoed after him, I saw him meeting with someone at a distance.
It was a boy. I was guessing our ages were same as he was wearing a uniform, but, I didn't recognise the school. After seeing that, my curiosity kinda went away as it seemed Jason was just meeting with his friend. He could have called him to meet up together with me present as well, but I guess, he found it awkward.
After returning back to my house, I just decided to leave the matter be, I mean, it was not even a big deal, or so I thought.
The next morning, as usual, I hopped inside the car kind of assigned for my transportation convenience by my father, and as my driver, Mr. Phillips started the car and then we began our journey to my school. After dropping me off in the entrance gate, he always greeted me goodbye and then informed me of his arrival to pick me up again after the school ended. Honestly, I found the informing habit of his a bit annoying but still, I was grateful towards his attentiveness towards me, unlike my so-called busy....old man.
Anyways, as I walked inside my classroom, I saw Jason texting someone on his phone and when I was about to approach and greet him, he hurriedly hid his phone screen and then put his phone inside his bag. That was kind of suspicious but still I just let it be. When I finally sat down and greeted him with a Hey! , he, too, greeted me back with a nod and smile. And then we both started talking about our home assignments, comparing our answers and checking whether we had done them correctly.
After a couple of minutes, it was finally time for classes to commence. As I glanced through the windows in the opposite side, I could make out that the teacher had almost arrived the classroom while, someone was following behing him. And there came in a feeling of Deja Vu, I meant, it felt as if this had happened sometime before. And then I remembered,
Of course, it's a similar case like Jason, that is, a new transfer student.
After the realization struck, I was just feeling indifferent, I mean I didn't care about anyone anyways and so, I looked at Jason to initiate a conversation, but then I saw it. An expression that I was not much aware about. He looked kinda stunned but in the midst of that, there was a subtle happiness hidden within his expression as I saw his lips curl up a bit. I could make out that he was acting in a cautious way. As if trying his best to hide his emotions and not let others to find out more about him.
I was a bit confused as I didn't know what exactly had happened to him. But as soon as I turned to face the teach, who was speaking to introduce the newcomer, I once again saw him, the guy whom Jason was meeting the day before. That day I could not see him too clearly but now that I was staring at his face under the brightness of daylight, one thing was for sure, the new transfer student was pretty. I mean inspite of being a boy, he looked both feminine as well as beautiful but his voice was a bit on the deeper side. He had blonde hair and his eye colour was kinda transparent blue.
He introduced himself as Marcus Williams, an American. He, too, had transfered due to his parents' jobs and to top that off, his hobbies included swimming. After hearing that, I kinda felt pissed off. I don't know why, but I felt irritating. The coincidence of both of them being swimmers felt too peculiar.
Thereby, after the introductions, the teacher told him to sit in an empty seat and so, he came and sit near Emily, who sat accross our seat, so this meant that Marcus was now kinda sitting beside Jason. After he sat down, I saw both of them smiling at each other.
When it was finally break time, as soon as I was about to invite Jason to eat lunch with me, he interrupted.
Hey Jace!! Wanna have lunch with me?
I thought Jason would reject his offer thinking about me, but nothing of that sort happened as he smiled and agreed. He apologized to me and went away. Without having the words to refute, I just assured him I was alright and that I could have my lunch on my own. I mean it would be so pettiful and childish to ask him to eat with me instead of that new guy or whoever it was.
But one thing kept on lingering in my mind, upsetting me the whole time I had my lunch and that is,
I thought his smile was only meant for me.
He had smiled in the most beautiful way at that guy, it felt annoying and irritating. I disliked the whole set-up. Without having anyone to eat lunch with, I just headed to the rooftop, where I sat down and started to eat my lunch, watching the sky in silence. And then came in a nuisance.
One thing that had to be noted about me was, it was not that I didn't have friends at all. I did have some but all of them were the crazy sort so I tried to minimize my entanglement with them. But one of them, who was the persistent kind, never left me and that was, my childhood friend, Christopher Lee. His parents and my parents were college mates and business partners so we were kinda forced to be friends in one of the business parties and so, since then, this guy had never left my side.
He was annoying, true, but still, he was my eating mate in the rooftop so I usually let him be. And further, I could never win against him in any arguements so, instead of wasting my time, bickering with him, I just decided to not cut contact with him. Also, inspite of being friends, he was senior to me in school by one year.
And so, he barged or rather walked to the rooftop, one hand occupied by his cigarette while the other was carrying his lunch, which was, as usual, a homemade tiffin. As soon as he saw me, he hurriedly put away his cigarette and then used a mouth freshener to cleance the smoky stance from the earlier substance. He then smiled at me and sat down beside me. He knew that I didn't like the stance of cigarette or any sorts of alcoholic substances so whenever he met with me, he usually put away such stuffs.
So, one could say that despite his misleading visuals, he was pretty much a decent guy. Thereafter, both of us started to eat our lunch together in silence, initially, that is. As he suddenly broke out,
Hey Finn, I heard that a new student has come to your class. How is he? Did you become friends with him?
There he goes again, I thought. Despite his peculiar actions of grownups, one thing that defined him was that, he was a worrywart. And to top that of, since I was younger than him, I guess he felt the need to protect me or something. So, usually, he asked me about whether I had made new friends. Okay, fine, I didn't mind his presence at all, to be honest but his worrywart behaviour annoyed me once in a while. Therefore, to shut him up, without much thought, I just replied in a monotonous tone.
First of all, there have been two transfer students in our class now. And secondly, I did become friends with one of them.
As soon as he heard this piece of news, he started to smile and as if I had gotten an award or something, he started to congratulate me. *sigh*
He is really annoying...
When the bell ginlly rang, he started to pester me to introduce Jason to him. To be honest, I didn't want to. It mean it felt kinda embarrassing. But still just to shake him off before I reached the classroom, I just agreed to his request. To which, he on his own made a promise to meet during the weekend and then he ran off.
Even though I wanted to refute, I couldn't help it. As being a lazy person, who hated wasting energy on arguments or something, talking to the energetic type was quite annoying.
As I entered the classroom, the next subject teacher was already standing on the podium. He gestured me to hurry up and so I quickly went upto my seat and sat down. As usual, I was thinking of just watching outside the window, but then something poked me in my arm. I quickly woke up and saw it, an egg cutlet sandwich was there on my table, I was kinda perplexed but then I looked at Jason and then he winked at me and there was a sticky note on my table where it was written.
Since you didn't go with us, I bought a souvenir for you...
-Your partner,
Kim Jason☆
After getting the sandwich, I don't know why but the repulsive feeling that I was feeling earlier, went away immediately and then I thought to myself,
So, he didn't forget about me.
Thereby, I smiled at him and whisphered a "Thank you" near his ears, to which he just smiled and nodded.
As the happy moments between us went on accummulating, I didn't notice that there were some who were glaring at me.
