33. Sleep delirium
"Hey, Yukio?"
Someone stirred him awake from the sleep. Did he fall asleep in that short amount of time?
"Mhm," he slowly opened his eyes to find Natsuki standing beside his bed.
"You can sleep after eating, you have to take medicines too." she helped him sit up.
"Medicines?"
"Yes, mom made some porridge for you and also gave me some medicines. Earlier, it seemed you have a fever." she made herself comfortable on the chair that she put there beforehand.
"Fever?" he kept asking questions as his head felt heavy and he reached out his hand to feel the temperature on his forehead.
"See? Is it still warm? Let me check," she also reached her hand out to check his fever.
"Hmm," she hummed, putting the other hand on her own forehead, "it's still warm. The medicines are necessary."
"If you say so," he looked up at her, obediently nodding his head.
"Why still cute?" she muttered secretly under her breath and turned around to prepare the bowl of porridge for him to eat.
"Can you eat it yourself?" she asked gently, as if asking a little kid.
"Yes," he replied shortly again, eyes still full of sleep.
"Ow, man! You really are sick," she clicked her tongue and handed him the bowl, carefully placing it in his hands.
"Do you have something for me to do in the house? You must be in your room all this time, did your mom tell you to do some work, run some errands? I can do it," she stood up, her face screaming, 'I'm reliable!'
"No, Suki you don't have to-"
"Just eat, I'll walk around the house a bit, okay?" she gave him a smile and patted his shoulder before leaving the room.
Taehyung was again speechless and did as he was told before going back to sleep.
The night rolled around just like that. The streets were calmer than ever, only insects could be heard through the closed window. Taehyung could even feel the serenity of the moon in the night sky while sitting on his bed, yawning as he ran a hand through his hair.
"I wonder if she went home," he muttered, getting up to go and find Natsuki.
"Oh," he stopped on his tracks as soon as he saw her napping soundly on the living room couch.
"Should I wake her up?" he glanced at the clock hanging on the wall, "it's pretty late."
Why was he mumbling about to himself? He didn't know if his fever had gone down or not!
"Suki?" he gently tapped her shoulder to wake her up but little did he know that she was fast asleep?
"Suki-chan?" he crouched down on the floor, taking a better look at her face.
"How calm! If she were awake, she'd be talking non-stop." he wasn't complaining though! It was obvious by the way his lips curved up in a sweet smile.
"Aren't you heading home?" he asked in a small voice, almost inaudible to his own ears.
She wiggled in her sleep, mumbling something incoherent.
"Hm?" he subconsciously asked in return, still looking at her face.
"Don't wanna go," he could finally make out the words.
He sighed, standing up, "what should we do about you, hm?" and spoke while still looking down at her.

"Eh?!" she gasped back to life, startling poor Taehyung. He probably put her down on the bed a bit roughly by accident.
"What happened?" he asked with worry, afraid that he had hurt her unintentionally.
"What am I doing here? What time is it?" she was clearly panicking.
"It's alright, I called your mom already, she said it was okay to spend the night here." he said casually, "it's still really late, get some more sleep."
"More sleep? Um, I think I'm just inconveniencing you when you're sick."
"I'm feeling much better,"
"But, still.. I think I should go back."
"Natsuki," he paused to look at her face, "it is raining."
"Eh?!" she jumped to look out the window, now that she did, she could hear the sound of raindrops hitting the glass window.
"Yes, so just stay here."
"You must have an umbrella in your house though, right?" she was just saying whatever came to her mind. She was probably still too sleepy to think properly.
"Um, I don't know where it is,"
"Nevermind it, I can just run. It's not too far-"
"Suki, I want you to stay, so just, shut up and sleep here tonight, okay?" he said in one breath, really shutting her up.
As she didn't respond, he realised his word choice was a bit wrong, "oh, I'm sorry I didn't mean to be rude, I just really wanted you to stay."
But she was silent, staring blankly at him. He probably messed up big time, didn't he?
"Suki, I'm-"
"Okay, then sleep here with me." she turned around and went straight back to bed, lying down comfortably.
"Huh?!" now he was the one staring blankly at her back facing him.
"Sleep," is all she repeated.
At least she was staying, so he brushed off all the thoughts and slowly made his way to the bed.
"When are your parents returning?" she asked as the soft bed dipped down and Taehyung laid right beside her, leaving some space.
"After a day or two, I think."
She sighed, "then, do you want to skip school tomorrow and go on a date with me?" her eyes were closed. Was she sleeping? Sleep talking?
"Sure- what?!" he didn't realise until he answered already.
"Natsuki, are you asleep?" he was still surprised but asked nonetheless.
"Mhm," she replied, voice low and small, almost inaudible.
"You are?" he groaned, covering his face, "did you listen to yourself at all?"
•~•~•
"Eh? You're in your uniform..." Natsuki made her way to him in the kitchen.
The birds were chirping, sunlight filtering in through the curtains, brightening up the space.
"...Yes?" he scratched his nape, smiling awkwardly.
"Oh... you're going to school today?" she asked.
"Yes, I'm feeling perfectly fine today, thanks to you and your mom's porridge." he smiled widely, thanking her.
"Right. I should get going too, I've bothered you enough. See you in school." she finished and sprinted towards the door right away.
"O-oh, okay, see you, Suki." he waved, dumbfounded.
He should have asked her for breakfast at least. He clicked his tongue, disappointed.
"Oh, shit,"
He burned the toast. Uh oh!

"Will you tell me now?" Fumiya pestered her, asking for reason and explanation of her sullen face.
"What do you mean? There's nothing to tell, Fumiya-kun." she continued to poke her food with the fork. It was rather violent but, because the cafeteria was too loud, Fumiya couldn't hear the sound of metal clacking with the plate.
"Oh, don't you fool me like that! I know you very well." he glared at her, breaking the imaginary walls she had put in front of her.
"What else?" she sighed loudly, "guess I should move on quickly and quietly?"
"Move on? From what?!" Fumiya's ears perked up and he edged more towards the table, listening closely.
"I.. got rejected, I think?" she put the fork aside, resting her head on the table, dejected.
"What?!" he sprang to his feet, almost yelling.
"Shh! Calm down, will you?!" she hurried to make him sit back down.
"What do you mean rejected? And you think? Spill it!!" his eyes were wide and curious but also worried.
"I kinda asked him if he wanted to go on a little date.. maybe, but he acted like it didn't happen." she whined.
"Woah! Alright, but why do you sound uncertain?"
"Because I was literally half asleep, It's a big enough thing that I even remember asking him out in the middle of the night, jeez!!"
"What the... why were you with him in the middle of the night?"
"Well, he was sick so mom told me to take care of him until he was recovered but I ended up sleeping there, accidentally! And I woke up somehow and he talked to me, so I couldn't help it and blurted it out."
"And then?" if there were a big popcorn bucket in front him, Fumiya would be delighted.
"I told him to skip school and go somewhere together, but when I woke up, I saw him dressed and ready for school. He didn't even mention anything about last night. He just ignored it. Doesn't that mean I'm rejected?" she fake cried, whining like a kid.
"What?! I'm gonna beat him up to put some sense-" he stood up again, pushing the chair out of his way.
"No way-" she caught him right in time or else there would have been a disaster.
"Why? From what you said, it sounds absurd and absolutely unbelievable. As much as my gut feeling says, he surely-"
"Are you guys done eating already?" Taehyung showed up out of nowhere, making Fumiya shut up abruptly.
"Oh, Yukio. Uh, yes, we were just about to go back to class. Why are you just arriving?" Natsuki didn't let Fumiya speak a word, let alone talk to him.
"The teacher had some work for me, so I was helping him out." he smiled as usual, gentle and calm.
"Oh, I see. You should eat up quickly before the break is over. We're headed back to the class." she blabberd without thinking and dashed off with Fumiya trailing behind her as he shouted, asking her to slow down and wait for him.
Once back to the class, Fumiya stopped her.
"What was that?" he asked, out of breath.
"I don't want to see you guys fighting or even arguing, okay?" she threatened him, voice stern.
"Oh, come on! You know, I was just angry. I'm not going to fight him." he sat down on his seat as Natsuki did the same.
"But, let me help you, okay?" he suggested, his gaze soft.
"How?"
"Leave it to me," his words were filled with confidence as he smirked, "just go to our secret meeting spot once the classes end."
"What.. are you planning in that head of yours?" Natauki shuddered dramatically.
"It's alright, alright~" he sang, looking through his phone now.
Only time can reveal what his brain was cooking.
