32. Before it's too late

"What are we doing today?" Taehyung was in a cheerful mood.

"Um, I think we should just walk around the streets, eat delicious food and gather back at the beach for the last ferry of the day. The tickets are booked already," Fumiya said, planing everything out in his mind.

"So, you want us to split up?" Taehyung asked.

"Pretty much, because I'm sure Natsuki-chan doesn't want to play some arcade games with Haru-kun and Aki-kun right now." he gestured towards her, who was kind of zoning out of this world.

"Right, Suki-chan?" he fully turned to her, startling her.

"Eh?! Oh, right..."

"You didn't listen to a single thing."

Of course, she didn't. How could she? She was still thinking about how to confront Taehyung about the last night's incident.

"Nevermind," Fumiya went to talk about it with the others, leaving both of them alone.

"Uh, Yukio, you don't think Yoongi heard me crying last night, do you?" she asked him in a hushed voice, taking the chance.

"Hm? Why do you ask?" he thought that Natsuki must care a lot about how Yoongi perceives her.

"It's quite embarrassing to cry like that in the middle of the night. I'm afraid, I was a bit too loud and disturbed his sleep." she blabberd on, trying to explain everything as clearly as possible to hide the fact that she wanted Taehyung to say something about the little gift she received from him.

But, Taehyung took it as something else.

"Why do you care about Yoongi so much?" he said it in a lighthearted tone, he was even smiling but it felt off.

"Uhm, because, well.. he is my best friend and- actually, nevermind it. It's not a big deal, yeah?" she laughed it off, regretting her decision to bring the topic up.

"I think I'd like it if he heard- no, if he saw what happened last night." Taehyung muttered, not too quietly.

"Eh...? Eh?!" Natsuki turned to him, shocked.

But Taehyung was already gone, now talking to the others.

"Well, let's go? Natauki-chan, you and me are the in the same team." Fumiya jogged towards her, Taehyung following him closely from behind.

"Same team?" she was still a bit baffled.

"Yes, why are you so out of it today?" Fumiya chuckled, swinging his hand around her shoulders as he dragged her with him, walking towards the market.

"Are we just going to walk around all day?"

"Not necessarily, let's just look around a bit so we can decide what to do. It's our last day here," his eyes roamed around the streets, occasionally smiling at the shopkeepers on their way when their eyes would meet.

Fumiya had such a smooth personality. It sometimes even impressed Natsuki who had been his friend for a really long time.

The people who walked around the streets, chatting away with their families or friends, the chatter of shops and small stalls of various things created a comfortable atmosphere.

It was cozy, the alleyway was not very wide but enough to feel fresh all the time.

"Ayo! Young man, are you alright?" a crash and loud clatter stopped both Fumiya and Natsuki on their tracks.

"Yukio?" Natsuki exclaimed as they both turned around.

"Oh no, I'm really sorry, are you alright?" Taehyung's face looked worried.

"Ah, I'm alright but the coffee was hot, are you sure you don't need a first aid?" a young lady, probably a few years older than them was talking to Taehyung. She had a tradition yukata on.

"First aid?! Yukio, what happened?" Natsuki asked him, worried as she hurried to check for any injuries.

"No, Natsuki, I'm not hurt but this lady's coffee..." he sighed, looking on the floor, at the mess.

"Oh, don't worry about it," another lady came out of the shop. Turned out, they were twins.

"Oh," Fumiya couldn't help but exclaim silently at the cute looking twin sisters.

"Let me compensate for it," Taehyung suggested out of guilt.

"We can't accept money though!" the other one, who just rushed out, said.

"Then...?"

"If you have time, please help us at the stall for an hour or less is okay too." the lady from before grabbed his hand, pulling him into the stall without letting him decide.

"Hah!? What the hell?" Natsuki was dumbfounded.

"Oh my, my!" Fumiya clicked his tongue, watching everything as he sighed, "how can they just drag him away?"

"Right? This is not okay, I'm going to-"

"Natsuki-chan, calm down." Fumiya laughed, making her angry.

"What?!"

"Do you think something like this is not normal for him?" Fumiya pulled her to a nearby bench, sitting her down on it.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, look at him!" his words made her look at Taehyung who seemed to be smiling shyly yet a little awkwardly in the stall, chatting with the ladies.

Then he continued, satisfied by the look that his words pulled out on Natsuki's face.

"Someone like him! Someone as good looking as him, can never be single forever. He must get a lot of love confessions now and then, so I think it must be normal for him, don't you think so too?" he chose his words carefully, all while observing Natsuki's expressions. She was still looking at Taehyung.

"What are you trying to say Fumiya-kun?" she let out in a small voice.

"I know that you like him." this made her snap her head towards Fumiya.

"It's alright, but I want you to think about it. As you can see right now, he is popular, not only among the girls same age as us but also among the older, prettier girls."

Man! The impact his words had on Natsuki was too visible and transparent, Fumiya almost laughed out loud.

"I suggest that, you shouldn't be even more later than you already are, Suki-chan." he leaned down, slowly whispering in her ear, "go and make a move before it's too late." and then sat back down properly.

"Make a move!?" she zoned out again, eyes wide, then came back too while muttering, "no, no, no!!"

"Why? Are you scared or something? The Natsuki-chan I know isn't like that." he scoffed, trying to cheer her up.

"I'm not scared but..." she sighed, resting her head on his shoulder, "okay, I think I am scared. I need some time to think."

"Sure, take your time but don't be too late." he giggled, patting her head lovingly.

"Um, what are you guys doing here alone?"

It was Taehyung's voice.

"Yukio?!" she jumped up in an instant.

Did he overhear their conversation?! Oh no!!

"Oh, we were just waiting for you to be done." Fumiya answered in her stead.

"I see, it's alright now so, we should get going before they change their mind and come after me again." his voice sounded embarrassed.

"Do things like this happen very often, Yukio-kun?" Fumiya asked as they stood up, now walking back to continue in the same direction.

"Uh, sometimes..? I try to avoid it but can't help in some cases."

"Do you want my help, Yukio? I can shoo them all away!" Natsuki chimed in, voice confident.

"Oh, really?" it sounded funny and Fumiya had no filter so he laughed his heart out but Taehyung just chuckled a little.

"Then, I'll be thankful, Suki."

He didn't refuse?! He didn't refuse!!

This was enough to make Natsuki happy. She skipped ahead through the street, finding a good spot for a quick snack.

"Let's eat something first." she suggested excitedly.

"Now I know why I joined you guys, because I knew there would be food wherever Natsuki-chan goes!" that earned Fumiya a nice smack from Natsuki.

•~•~•

"It was so much fun, don't you agree, Yukio?" Natsuki was still full of energy, it honestly surprised Taehyung.

"Yes, it was." he paused for a while, walking in silence, "you really never get tired, huh?" he finished with a small chuckle.

"I think I'm a bit hyperactive, right? It's weird, I know-"

"Who said that it's weird? Even if someone does say that, Natsuki," the way he called her name so gently got her looking up at him with heart eyes, "never change for just anybody, okay?" he smiled, that famous box-like smile of his!

"O-of course," she chuckled nervously, "I can't change so easily even if someone says it anyway."

They continued in silence after that. For the first time, Natsuki realised that the moonlight could cast a shadow too and it was more beautiful than the one created but sun's burning rays, because her head was low, looking at her feet as she smiled, thinking about Taehyung's words

The very familiar neighbourhood felt strangely refreshing and new at night.

Her train of thoughts was interrupted by a light cough and she looked up.

"Hm? Are you not feeling well?" she asked.

"I wouldn't say not well. I just feel a little itchy in my throat, I'll have some warm water when I get home so it should be alright."

"Oh," she nodded, "then don't forget to take it several times, okay? Have a good night, Yukio."

And it was finally time, to go back home.

•~•~•

"What!? He's called in sick?!" Natsuki exclaimed, eyes wide as Fumiya said those words.

"Yes, the teacher said it's not too bad so we don't have to worry because he will be back tomorrow."

Apparently, Taehyung was absent from school and Natsuki, well, was worried.

As soon as the school bell rang, she ran for the gate, ran past the bridge so fast that she almost thought she never came across it. She quickly put her bag aside as soon as got home and yelled from the door that she was going to visit Taehyung.

"Oh goodness, this girl!" her mother sighed but didn't stop her daughter.

"Yukio!!" she shouted before pressing the doorbell.

After a while, he opened the door, eyes sleepy and tired.

Did she disturb him while he was resting?!

"Oh, no, did I disturb your sleep? I'm sorry, I'll go back for now." she didn't have much time to even look at his face before she turned around, ready to leave.

She really needs to calm her horses down.

"Hey, hey, wait, Natsuki!" he caught her wrist back in time, although he was feeling weak but his grip was still tight.

"It's okay, so, please come inside." his voice was small, followed by a cough as he slowly let go her wrist.

"Um, if you say so, then please pardon my intrusion." she turned back around, made her way inside and closed the door.

"You're welcome." he went straight to his bedroom without saying anything. Natsuki took it as a sign to follow him.

"Where are your parents? Are they not home?" she looked around the house while walking.

"Oh, they've gone back to Korea to visit my grandparents for a few days." he silently lied down on the bed, covering himself with the duvet.

"What?! Then, that means you were alone this whole time?! That's no good, Yukio!" she worriedly said, taking a seat on a chair beside his bed.

"Thank you for worrying about me but, Natsuki, I can take care of myself, so don't worry too much." he chuckled, coughing half way, which made her worry even more.

"Even so!! You could have called me. My mom could come and cook you something healthy. What did you eat today?" she narrowed her eyes down on him.

"Some fruits..."

"And?"

"And what? That's it,"

"That's too bad!! I'm disappointed, Yukio." she stood up, determined, "stay put on your place and wait for me. I'll go and get my mom to make something nice. I would have done it for you but I'm not really good and you're sick so you need to eat something healthy. I'll be back, okay? Stay put!"

She instructed him and quickly exited the room, leaving Taehyung flustered.

"What the heck just happened?!" he blinked, pulling the duvet over his face as he chuckled subconsciously but, a cough interrupted it.

He really did need some rest. So that's what he did and closed his eyes.
