"No books," a towel fell onto the beach chair under the shade of an umbrella among the burning heat of summer, "no labs," a tote bag met the sandy ground next to the chair leg, "and no profs."

Aera let out a sigh of relief, plopping onto the beach chair and pulling her brown hair out of its tight ponytail before leaning back and sighing in satisfaction once more, fluttering her eyes shut while listening to the ocean waves that softly hit the shore.

"It's just me, myself, and this beautiful summer vacation."

God, it felt too good to be true

After the long months of hardcore school work, helping out in a research study, and building her volunteer hours, saying she was was burntout was an understatement. She was more than desperate for a summer vacation that just couldn't have arrived fast enough as her third year was coming to an end.

Thankfully, after so much hard work, it was finally here and she could drive back to her hometown to enjoy it with her parents who she hadn't seen in quite a while.

Pre-med was hard. But it was what she wanted to do. So if it meant running on only a few hours of sleep with caffeine being her only source of energy, then it was worth it. Nothing was more important than stepping out one day with a doctor's coat placed over her proud shoulders as she accomplished her dreams.

One she had been busting her ass off for.

"Hi there, gorgeous,"

The voice sounding through the air caught Aera off guard, almost jumping in her spot as her eyes flew open, spotting the man that now stood under her huge umbrella, licking his lips.

Her nose scrunched.

Ew

"What is a fine lady like you doing here all alone?"

"I believe that's none of your business," she spoke in nonchalance, lying comfortably back in her chair.

"Well it is now. What's your name pretty?"

Aera tilted her sunglasses down on the bridge of her nose, taking a better look at the guy who dared to disturb her, making sure to display the disgust on her face for him to perhaps take the hint to leave.

"I'm sorry, you seem to be mistaking me with a woman who cares."

"C'mon love, don't play hard. We've all been there."

"I don't think you have."

He opened his mouth to say something once again, only for a hand to be placed on his shoulder, revealing a head full of jet black hair and sunglasses sitting atop a beautifully structured face.

"Hey buddy, I'll have to ask you to leave."

He came around him now, making sure to keep a firm hold on the first guy's shoulder, his red sleeveless top displaying the word "LIFEGUARD" across his torso in white.

But Aera was slightly distracted by the ripls of muscle coating his arms. Just for a moment.

"There's nothing wrong here," the first guy spoke, and soon the second was turning to her.

"Is he bothering you?"

She blinked, and nodded.

"I've asked him to leave several times,"

Cue, the innocent voice.

"Alright buddy, let's go," the lifeguard pushed the first guy away until he was pulling his hands off of him.

"I'll leave, jeez." he fired and was soon storming away as both Aera and him watched.

A few seconds pass by, and soon the handsome face is turning away, ready to leave since his work there was clearly done.

Aera shot up in her seat.

"Wait!"

She watched him stop a few feet away and turn back to her with a raised brow.

"I just wanted to thank-"

A scream from the water cuts her off and his head snaps to the voice, noticing the flailing of arms and splashes coming from afar.

And then,

He's gone.
