19 - Let's Paint the Town Scarlet

*Y/N's POV*

I was confused. I'd kissed Harry a couple days ago, and ever since we'd been acting exactly like how we did before - like good friends. Does this mean I'm friend-zoned? I have to admit, I thought he liked me, but maybe I misread him? Oh god, what if he actually hates me and he didn't want to kiss me and now I've ruined things forever and now I'm gonna die because I'm so STUPID.

That wasn't the only confusing part.

When Draco saved me from Jack, my heart fluttered so hard it almost lifted out of my chest. Is it possible to like two people at the same time? Or maybe even...more than two?

I mulled my question over until breakfast, where I sat down at the table with everyone, sandwiched in between the twins. By everyone, I mean the usual gang: Harrison, Drakey, Gred and Forge, Ronathan, Hermione, Ginny and I. Cedric was sitting at the Hufflepuff table like a traitor. His excuse was 'If I don't spend time with other Hufflepuffs they'll think I'm fraternizing with the enemy'.

I glanced over at him from across the hall and stuck my tongue out when we made eye contact. He blew me a kiss in return. I huffed and turned back around, hoping he could read my dissatisfaction in my body language. Of course by body language, I mean the giant sparkling middle finger made of confetti that I projected into the air with my wand.

"L/N! No vulgar magic in the Great Hall!" McGonagall shouted from the front of the hall.

"Sorry Professor!" I yelled back.

I piled some waffles onto my plate and started digging in with such fervor that I didn't notice that I'd gotten some maple syrup on the corner of my mouth.

"Y/N." Fred took hold of my chin and turned my head towards him. I looked up at him quizzically and he smirked mischeviously.

"You've got some syrup on your mouth."

"Oh!" I start moving to wipe it off but he clasps my wrist before I can.

"Please, allow me," He brought his face closer to mine and I was so puzzled that I didn't pull away.

I felt his lips touch the corner of my mouth and his tongue swiped over my skin to lick the syrup off.

He pulled back and groaned, "So sweet. Just like you." He tapped me on the nose and laughed at my flustered state.

George frowned at Fred, "But Freddie, I thought we agreed to share her. You can't snatch her up for yourself, now I have to make it even."

I turned left to face him in confusion and he leaned in to softly kiss the other corner of my mouth.

"You're right, she is sweet." He winked and I cupped my cheeks to feel my face burning.

"Aww, she's blushing! That's so cute." They cooed in unison.

Harry cleared his throat in irritation, "Can you guys stop trying to seduce Y/N in the middle of breakfast?"

George protested, "We can't help ourselves, she's so adorable!"

I plunked my head down on the table, suddenly drained of energy.

As the conversation around me continued, I thought about my conflict. I hadn't made any progress and decided to subtly consult my friends.

"Hey guys?" I asked tentatively, "Do you uh, do you think it's possible to um. To like more than one person at a time?"

They all stopped and looked at me.

"Do you mean having multiple crushes at one time?" Hermione asked.

I nodded, "Yeah, but maybe even a little more...serious than crushes."

"Why are you asking, Y/N?" Ron asked, a hint of anger showing through.

"Because I happen to be deeply in love with the entire cast of Supernatural." I rolled my eyes. (Comment ur dream tv show orgy, mine's Game of Thrones).

"I'm serious," Ron protested.

"I am too! I mean, have you SEEN Jared Padalecki's abs?" I sighed dreamily and Fred flicked me on the forehead.

"Ok, fine. I'm sure you can guess the reason from my question, but I think I might have a crush on a couple different people. At the same time." I said hesitantly. "And I'm honestly just really confused and I need help."

Hermione cleared her throat, suddenly looking business-like, "Well, historically speaking,"

"Ugh, here she goes again with her damn history." Ron groaned.

She shot him a glare and continued. "Historically speaking, polygamy and having multiple partners has not been unusual in the magic community. In 'Hogwarts, A History', it speaks of a famous trio consisting of two witches and a wizard who were all romantically involved; their magical abilities were actually strengthened from their bond, hence the prevalence of magical harems in the past."

She dropped a book onto the table and flipped to a page, pointing to a picture of a witch surrounded by wizards, "Some particularly powerful magic users have intentionally sought out multiple powerful partners in order to better themselves. It can be a controversial topic for muggles but it's more widely accepted in the Magical world."

I laughed, "I'm not exactly looking to take over the world, but thanks Hermione."

Ginny waved a hand dismissively, "That's all facts and bullshit with no solution. Here's what you need to do: Start dating all of them, and dump whichever ones you like the least."

"Ginny, that's so mean!" I gasped.

"Yeah, since when did you get so cold-hearted?" George asked.

She stared at him, "Ah, my sweet summer child. You learn to be ruthless when you play the game, and I'm the champion."

"...What game. And I'm older than you."

"Shh. You will learn with time." She said sagely.

I whistled for their attention. "Guys? My problem?"

"I think you just have to examine your feelings for them, and talk to them. Some people aren't okay with sharing, but others might be open to it. It just depends on the person." Harry said.

"Thank you! Once again Harry is the voice of reason." I said.

Harry scolded himself internally right after talking. Does this mean she doesn't like me anymore? Does she like someone else? Damn it, I knew I should've acted faster.

I walked aimlessly around the castle, lazily observing the birds flying through the stone archways. With nothing better to do, I headed out towards the garden, planning on visiting the grove with the chair swing.

I hummed as I walked and enjoyed the watery sunlight against my face. I bent down to get a closer look at what seemed to be a translucent rose and straightened up only to feel a hard chest against my back. A pair of hands covered my eyes and I heard a voice from behind me.

"Guess who?"

I jumped slightly in surprise, "Um, hopefully not a vampire?"

I was awarded with a chuckle and took the hands off, spinning around to see Cedric, "I guess I was kinda right." I said bemusedly.

"So where are you headed to?" He asked. We started walking along the path towards the grove and he slung an arm over my shoulders.

"Ugh, your arm is heavy." I shrugged it off and he laughed, "It's all muscle baby."

"I was going back towards our grove for a little peace and quiet, but I was rudely interrupted by a certain badger." I glared at him playfully.

"Oh it's 'our' grove now, huh? I have to say, I like the sound of that." He said.

"I mean, I've never seen anyone else besides us go in there. Maybe we're the first to find it. We could be explorers, like Lewis and Clark." I replied excitedly.

"Who?" He asked in confusion. I waved a hand dismissively. "Never mind." Dumb wizards and their inability to get muggle references. I loved staying current on muggle gossip, I find it so interesting how they can create drama from such mundane lives.

We arrived at the circle of trees and I noticed that the leaves were a rosy bronze instead of the gold that they had been previously. Magic botany was fascinating to me, but I'd never let Professor Sprout hear me say that or she'd make me do extra work as a 'reward.'

"Hey Ced, why do you think the leaves are bronze now? It hasn't been that long since we last came here and they were gold then." I sat down on the swing with him and moved closer so I could rest my head on his shoulder. (Cue Careless Whisper)

"Maybe it's magic." He said teasingly. His grin was radiant, and I noticed how the sun lit up the waves of his brown hair.

I slapped his shoulder and huffed.

"If I could choose, I'd make the leaves purple. Like an amethyst purple. I've never seen a purple tree before." I mused.

"I like the gold leaves. But then again, I think I'm biased." He said.

"Biased how?"

He turned towards me and smiled softly. "That's the color the leaves were when I first held a real conversation with you."

My breath hitched slightly and I think my heart skipped a beat.

In the sunlight, his brown eyes looked golden.

His eyes flicked down to my lips and he moved closer to place an arm on the seat behind us, leaning closer to me.

His right hand cupped my cheek and I tilted my head up to meet him, closing my eyes as he closed the gap between us.

His lips fell on mine softly, moving slowly as if he was scared that I was going to get intimidated and run away. I pressed mine to his more firmly in reassurance and he became more confident, placing his other hand on my lower back to create as much contact between us as possible.

He bit down gently on my lower lip and drew away.

He couldn't prevent the grin forming across his face.

"You have no idea how long I've wanted to do that." He breathed huskily.

"Me too." I giggled, slightly delirious.

As happy as I was, I couldn't prevent the invasive thoughts from reentering my mind.

After not kissing anyone in 16 years, I kiss two different guys within the span of a week. Does this make me...what does Ron call it? A scarlet woman. Am I a scarlet woman now?
