Chapter 7
VICTOR'S FEARFUL eyes reflected how he cared for his friend. Selene now realized the weight of the situation as she connected all the dots. In her delirious state, Selene realized why Victor came to her that night.
The legend is wrong. Victor did not betray his friend for greed or for fear.
"Victor," Selene whispered which stopped Victor's pacing. "T-take me to Lykaon, p-please. I am be-begging you. L-Let me s-save the man I-I love." Tears flowed from her sunken eyes.
Selene did not need to repeat what she said. Victor carried her on his back. "Hold on tight."
He jumped from branches to branches in great ease. The cold night breeze lulled Selene to sleep but she steeled herself. "Don't sleep, human! We're almost there!"
Victor lived up to his name as the god of the undead with his inhuman speed. With half-open eyes, Selene witnessed as they went inside a grand-looking temple with a guarding statue of a three-headed dog.
Victor walked inside the temple with ease. "They're over there." Since Selene was situated on his back, she could not see what's in front of her.
Selene was trying her hardest to remain conscious just to see him again. "What? Damn Hades! He blocked it with his holy power!"
"Why? What happened?" Selene could hear his frustration.
"That damn Hades stopped us from coming near them."
No! With this distance, she won't be able to hear about the cure for her husband!
"C-Can we at le-least hear t-them?" As time passed by, Selene's voice was now like a whisper.
Victor hesitated for a moment but he still answered, "Yes. Do you want to hear them? But even if we are able to hear what they are talking about we can't still help Lykaon!"
"T-Trust me. I-t can help him." Since he survived for almost five hundred years and married me.
Selene felt Victor nodded his head. He gently guided her to sit on the temple's floor as he positioned himself at her back while both his hands covered her ears. "Go and listen to them, human. And make sure to save Lykaon."
Of course.
Before her, Selene saw Lykaon kneeling in front of an old version of Hades, a complete contrast to the Hades whom she met from the present time. He was sitting on his throne while her husband was lowering himself like a lowly creature.
"Strike a bargain with me then, in return, I will grant your wish to spend one lifetime with the human girl you foolishly loved."
"What do you want in return, Hades?"
"Your immortality, I want your immortality in exchange for the wish you asked me."
A sudden pause happened between the two before Lykoan spoke again. "Deal, but you will only get my immortality when my wish will be granted."
"Of course. Then, I have a condition, Lykaon."
Here it is!
"Should you fail to love her in the span of five hundred years then the death rippers will claim your life." The whole time that Hades was speaking those words, he was looking straight to Selene but Lykaon could not see her nor feel her.
"No need, I will only love Luna." Lykaon's voice held nothing but tender love for the human girl he fell for.
Tears started to flow from Selene's eyes when she realized who Luna was. Sobs wracked her body as she slumped to the ground, completely realizing her role in this legend. All this time.
"Victor, I can save your friend. I can save my Kyla." Selene touched the barrier that separated her from him.
"How?" Victor was now in front of her in a minute. His eyes told her that he would do anything for his friend.
Selene smiled sadly at Victor, "You need to betray your friend and do exactly as I said when the time comes that we'll meet again."
A familiar feeling wrapped Selene's body right after she told Victor the details of her plan. She welcomed the warmth of the light. She could not wait to see him again.
After all those years, you waited for me, Kyla.
LILAC EYES opened suddenly. Her body returned to normal. Gone was the mind-blowing pain that wrecked her body. "Hades!"
"You called?" The childlike Hades was still in his position. "How was your trip, substitute of Luna? I mean, Luna." His grin told her that he knew what she realized from her time travel.
"Your prince charming finally arrived." Hades was now looking at someone at her back. With a pounding heart, Selene tearfully turned.
"Selene!"
"Kyla," she whispered the name that she told Victor from five hundred years ago to call Lykaon when he woke up without any memory. He became Kyla Shinoha because of her.
The familiar hug and warmth engulfed her suddenly, "Finally. Finally, we got to continue our love story that is five hundred years in a making." Selene hugged Kyla back.
"I love you, Kyla."
Kyla kissed her hair, then her forehead, her eyes, and her nose. His golden eyes shone genuinely, "I love you, Selene, my Luna."
And for the first time after five hundred years, two longing lips found their missing piece. Victor and Hades vanished into thin air to give the love birds the privacy they needed.
After all, their honeymoon is long overdue.
