The First Day of School

"Aww you look so handsome!"

Jimmy smiled, showing a missing tooth that fell out a couple of days ago.

Jimmy had blonde hair, like his mother and sister, and had a Toy Story themed backpack and lunchbox.

His sister, Elizabeth, was starting 2nd grade while Jimmy was starting Kindergarten.

His mother took pictures of Jimmy before she looked over her shoulder.

"Elizabeth! Come stand next to your brother!" His mother called to his sister who was grabbing her lunch in the other room.

His sister ran in, smiling with her pink Disney themed lunchbox and Stitch backpack.

Their father followed Elizabeth and watched as she put bunny ears over Jimmy while their mother laughed and took pictures.

"Alright guys." Their father said, laughing, "Let's get in the car."

Their mother waved goodbye to them and she disappeared into their house, getting ready for work.

"You guys excited?" Their father asked as he started to drive towards their school.

Jimmy was fidgeting with his lunchbox as he looked out the window.

"Yeah!" Elizabeth said, smiling and Jimmy nodded.

-

"I love you, Elizabeth." Their father said as he dropped them off.

"Love you too!" Elizabeth smiled and kissed their father's cheek before stepping out of the car.

Jimmy was about to follow her when his dad stopped him.

"You'll do fine, James." His father said and Jimmy smiled, "You're going to have lots of fun and make plenty of friends."

His father kissed his forehead and Jimmy left.

Jimmy followed his sister into the school.

"Alright Jim." She said, leading him through the 1st building, "We went on a tour the other day. Your class is right here."

They stopped and she gestured to the open door.

"I'm going to be in a different building, but I'll see you at lunch, okay?" She asked and Jimmy nodded.

She gave her brother a hug before waving goodbye and leaving to her class.

Jimmy walked into his class and looked around.

There were five circular tables, each with four seats around it, and there were colorful posters and decorations all around the room.

"Hello!"

Jimmy looked to his left and saw the teacher greeting him.

"I'm Mrs. Parkston, but you can call me Mrs. Park." She smiled sweetly at Jimmy, "What's your name, dear?"

"James." Jimmy said, looking at some of the other kids who were sitting at the tables, coloring and talking.

"That's a nice name!" She said, leading him over to a table where two guys and one girl sat, "You can sit here. Right now, we're writing down our names on this piece of paper and drawing some things that we like."

Jimmy nodded, smiling, and sat down as Mrs. Park went to greet the next kid who walked into the class.

"Hi!" The girl waved to him.

She had light brown hair that was tied into two braids.

"I'm Coco, what's your name?" She asked.

"James." Jimmy said, writing down his name.

"I'm Carmen." The boy to the right of Jimmy said.

He had black, fluffy hair and glasses on.

"And I'm Grian."

Jimmy looked to his left and a boy with blonde hair and a red sweater waved at him, looking a bit nervous.

Jimmy smiled and waved back.

He felt happy.

Like he had friends.

-

"Alright class, single file please!" Mrs. Park called as the class walked out to recess.

Grian and Jimmy were walking next to each other as they entered the playground.

There was a little play set that had a slide, a bridge, fireman pole, and monkey bars.

There was a seesaw, and a bowl that you can sit in and it spins.

There was also a swing set that had six swings on it.

Everyone took off running.

Almost everyone went to the play set and seesaw.

Jimmy ran over to the swing set and Grian sat down next to him.

As they were swinging, another class walked out to the playground.

"Wait, there are other classes?" Jimmy asked, looking at Grian.

Grian nodded.

They watched as more kids flooded the swings and playset.

Just then, one boy who had red hair appeared in front of Jimmy.

Jimmy, who was about to swing back down, couldn't stop from hitting him.

"Woah there!" Mrs. Parks ran up and grabbed the boy before Jimmy smashed into him.

"Don't stand in front of the swings!" She said the boy, "That was very dangerous what you just did. He could've kicked you!"

The ginger nodded.

"Did you want to get on the swings?" She asked.

He nodded again.

Jimmy slowed down to a stop and got up.

"You can get on." Jimmy said.

"That's very nice of you, dear." Mrs. Parks said to Jimmy before turning her attention to the ginger, "Next time you should stand next to the swing set and wait until someone slows down before asking them if you could go on."

He nodded, "Could I have the swing now?"

"Say 'please'." Mrs. Parks told him.

"Could I have the swing now please?" He asked.

Jimmy's heart thumped.

"Er- y-yeah!"

The boy smiled and got on the swing.

Grian and Jimmy left to go on the monkey bars and Jimmy couldn't stop watching the ginger swing up and down, his heart following the motions.
