Feelings of Love
Jimmy's Journal-
So it turns out Scott's not dating Katherine.
He's gay.
Like me!
I had to work with him in ELA today.
He's very good at drawing and I guess he is kind of sweet.
And nice.
And cute.
But I don't like him like that.
He's just a friend.
Probably not even that.
But I mean, not many people know he's gay.
And I guess he trusts the people that know that.
Like Katherine.
So I guess we are friends?
I'm not sure.
"Hey, bro." Elizabeth messed with her little brother's hair.
He shook his head, "Hey, Liz."
"Ey, you're using my nickname!"
Jimmy smiled at her, "I like it. It suits you more than Elizabeth."
"Yeah, River's not calling me it but that's fine. I guess he just likes my real name."
Jimmy tried his best to smile when she mentioned River.
"Come on, give him a chance. He's nice!"
"Is he though...?"
Lizzie rolled her eyes and peeked over his shoulder.
Jimmy quickly tried to cover up his writing, but his sister gasped and squealed.
"Who's Scott?!"
"NO ONE!" Jimmy shouted, feeling
his face heat up.
His sister cracked up.
This was the happiest Jimmy has seen his sister in a while.
Ever since she started dating River, she's always seemed upset.
But right now, she was laughing and smiling.
She eventually caught her breath, "Now come on, who is he?"
"Just a boy."
"Oooo!" Lizzie said, shaking her brother who was bright red.
"Shut up! It's not like that! We're just friends!"
"Uh-huh." Lizzie smirked.
"We are! I just spoke to him today, anyway.
Don't go jumping to conclusions."
"Alright, alright, but do you think he likes you back?"
Jimmy paused.
"Come on, it's not like I'm going to meet this kid."
"I mean...I know he's gay." Jimmy mumbled as his sister squealed.
It was weird to see her so happy.
"I wish you'd shut up."
"I love you too."
Just then, their father walked into Jimmy's room.
"Elizabeth? Was that you who was squealing?"
Jimmy nodded, looking horrified.
"Why? Is something wrong?" Their father asked.
Lizzie started giggling and shook her head.
"Come on." He smiled, "I haven't seen you this happy in ages. What happened?"
"What do you mean? I'm happy."
"I mean...with River- "
Lizzie scoffed, her happiness depleting, "River is fine. I wish you'd let that go!"
"I just- "
Lizzie walked past him and into her room, slamming the door behind her.
He sighed before turning to his son.
"How are you doing?"
"Er- I'm okay."
"What was she squealing about?"
"Just...stuff."
"You guys can talk to us, you know that?"
Jimmy looked at his journal and nodded.
"What'cha writing?"
Jimmy quickly closed it, "Nothing."
His father chuckled, "I get it, it's private. But if you need help with anything, you can always come to me or your mom."
"Okay. Love you."
"Love you too."
Jimmy then turned back to his notebook.
My sister just saw my journal and is now asking about Scott.
I don't like him I don't know why everyone is thinking that.
I mean, sure, I called him sweet, but that's it!
It just slipped out! I can't stop that!
I wish they would forget it.
We're just friends.
He has the same struggles as me with being gay.
Not being accepted into society.
He probably has to act like he's dating Katherine with his parents.
He told me his father is really homophobic which sucks.
I know I'm lucky to have supportive parents and friends but most people at school are just bitches.
They don't think twice about what they're saying and just make gay jokes.
Just today in math class when we were doing homework a guy raised his hand and said,
"This question has the girl's pronouns as she/her, what if it's they/them?"
And you know what?
People laughed.
A lot of people laughed.
Like why?! It's fine (well not really) if you think that but don't say it out loud! People think weird shit, but that doesn't mean you should always talk about it.
The teacher threatened to send the kid down to ISS but that's it.
He didn't get any punishment for saying that.
And being rude and offensive.
I wanted to kick him and all of the people who laughed and smiled.
Look, I'm sure you would do the same.
And besides, they would deserve it.
They're being bitches.
The only person (who I know) that didn't laugh is Katherine.
Instead, she looked visibly upset.
I wonder if she's gay.
Probably not, I bet she's just an ally like Lizzie and Joel.
Not River though.
He doesn't give two shits about me.
As long as he's with Lizzie.
She doesn't even like him, I don't know why she stays with him.
I've never seen her more upset.
I've also never seen her happier than when she's hanging out with Joel.
But nope.
She stays with River.
No matter what we do she doesn't listen and tells our parents to get out of her love life.
But with me she's honest.
It's weird.
I don't understand it, but I guess it's the same with me.
I only really speak to her about my problems.
I hope that doesn't affect me in anyway.
