G.R.A.I

Looking around he saw a field. Nothing more nothing less. It was a nice field, which had some kind of structure off to the left of Arch's vision. Walking towards it he heard footsteps behind him. Spinning around he saw the blue outline of a pilot armour. It was entirely blue and looked faintly holographic. It cocked its head to the side and took a step closer to Arch. "Who are you?" It asked in a distinctly feminine voice. Arch blinked "I'm me. Though if you want a name I'm Arch." The holograph pilot nodded "I am G.R.A.I. Ghost runner artificial intelligence." Arch blinked again "You need a different name. Let's see... Grey?" a head shake. "Grie?" a head shake "Um... Oh, I know Grace!" a pause. And a nod. "Grace it is. Thank you pilot." Grace said looking at the structure.

"Records show you are quite athletic not to mention combat efficient. Why are you in the training space?" Grace asked. "Training space? I just wanted to pilot the titan." "Ah so you want titan training. Why didn't you say so?" Arch looked at her with a confused expression. Grace clicked her fingers and a titan dropped from thin air. "Right let's start with the basics. To call in a titan fall all you need to do is request the coordinates to the standing operator. They will be shown in your helmets HUD. Just point where you want the drop and BAM! Titan." Arch nodded and waited for Grace to continue.

"Now onto piloting. Everything is done through the neural link so once you get used to the titan, retreat into your neural link with it. Once that's done piloting is like walking on your own but the titan will do what you want. Remember when you first make a titan work for you, you will feel like you're invincible. You are not. If you abuse the power or mess up and get hurt I will kick your ass, got it?" "Aren't you a bit motherly for an A.I?" "I've got no idea what you're on about. Now" she gestured to the robot "Get in the tita-"she stopped abruptly. "Pilot, your titan is picking up enemy titan signatures. WAKE UP!"

Arch awoke with a start in the legions cockpit, still in complete darkness. This time he didn't panic, instead he retreated into the neural link like Grace said. Opening his eyes he could see out of his titan's optics. The wall in front of him previously dark was now giving him a feed of the titans view. Remembering what Grace told him he tried to walk. Lifting a leg gingerly, he and the titan took a step. And another. And more. Soon enough he was walking the titan around, without having any training at all! "Okay" Arch thought "I can fight whatever this world throws at me." Listening he heard clunking footsteps approaching. "Pilot. I have detected a Ronin core approaching. Do we engage?" Arch shook his head. "We surprise them. Bunker down and turn off your optics. It'll be hard to surprise a Ronin but I think we can do it."

The legion did as his pilot suggested and powered down to standby mode. Not a moment too soon as the Ronin stepped into view soon after. "Thought I saw this thing active." A male voice cut through the silence. He approached the Legion in his titan, giving it a little kick. "Guess it was nothing." A scratchier, robotic voice said. Arch guessed it was the man's titan. The footsteps started up again but further away. "Pilot now might be an ideal time to initiate our attack." Licking his dry lips Arch nodded. Slowly turning on the optic vision feed he saw the Ronin's back was turned to them. "We don't have a weapon pilot." Arch swore quietly. What a critical piece of information to forget! Arch then saw the Ronin's sword. It was held to its back by a metal clip, easy to rip off. Seizing the opportunity Arch made the legion spring forward and seize the sword by its hilt. Ripping it off the Ronin's back he swung it in the air and brought it down in a diagonal arc across the Ronin's back. "Th' Fuck?!" the Ronin's pilot yelled spinning around with his titan. Bringing up his leadwall shotgun hoping to get a shot at his attacker, but in vain. The legion grabbed the barrel of the weapon in his left hand and pointed it away from him, at the same time bringing his right hand with the sword up, slicing off the Ronin's arm. Holding the leadwall and the arm in one hand, the legion swung the butt of the gun into the space where the Ronin was... hitting nothing but thin air. Confused Arch looked around before remembering what the Ronin titans were infamous for, "It did a phase dash." No sooner was thought done the titan re-appeared in front of him swinging with its remaining left arm. Ducking under the blow, the legion swung up with the sword again, cutting its other arm offand used the momentum of the upwards arc to spin the sword round and stab behind him. A satisfying crunch of metal was heard. Letting go of the sword Arch turned the titan around to see the Ronin impaled by its own blade.

The cockpit of the titan opened and a pilot crawled out. Half of his torso was split open and he hit the ground with a sickening thud. Now limping the pilot began to fire shot's at the legion from his side arm weapon. Without remorse Arch flipped the leadwall in the air catching it by its handle guard. Aligning his hand into the gun he aimed at the pilot, and pulled the trigger. 8 shots of concentrated arc energy blasted down at the pilot disintegrating him and leaving a bloody imprint in the sand. An anguished cry was heard from the Ronin as it charged forward, sword in chest, blinking red. Knowing this meant it was about to detonate the nuclear core the legion grabbed the charging titan, hoisted it into the air and slammed it down. Stepping on its chassis he crushed slightly before pumping 3 rounds of leadwall arc bullets into it. The now dead titan stopped flashing and lied completely still.
