Chapter 17 || The Confession
The wedding day of Aarav and Leher was four days away and it was decided that out of the four days, on the first three days all the traditional wedding functions and rituals would take place. And on the last day, Aarav and Leher's bachelor's and bachelorette's party would be held.
The wedding was planned to be held in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, as this place held a special in Aarav and Leher's heart. They could've had chosen any other exotic location for their destination wedding but they chose Manali, the place where Aarav first realised his love for Leher.
Both the family reached Manali a few days before the wedding rituals were supposed to begin and were soon joined by a their guests. The families were staying in their farmhouses, while the accommodation for the guests was arranged in the two luxury hotels of the city.
On day one of the wedding week,
the first wedding function of Haldi took place. The Haldi (turmeric) had been delivered to Leher's house as according to the rituals, Haldi is sent from Groom's house to Bride's house. Everyone was happy and excited for applying the turmeric paste on Aarav, and having a gala time.
Anaisha, too, was very excited for it. But, she still wasn't able to overcome her pain. She was still despondent and woeful! It was better when she didn't have to face Kabir, but Kabir's presence around her was increasing her despondency even more. She didn't know why it was hurting her so much.
True in last some months, she had become really close to him, but it wasn't like her life depended on him. After all, he was just a friend! And if he didn't want her friendship then she, too, didn't want his friendship or him in her life.
I'll ignore him, as much as possible, she vowed while getting ready for the first wedding function. It was her brother's wedding and she didn't want to spoil her mood because of Kabir or any damn person.
In a white and red patiala suit, Anaisha was all set for the first wedding ceremony. The Haldi ceremony began within some minutes, and one by one everyone applied Haldi (turmeric paste) on Aarav.
When Anaisha's turn came, she was about to apply Haldi when she saw that Kabir was about to do the same. Instead of showing her annoyance, she smiled to her brother, ignoring Kabir. But, because of this, her hand brushed against Kabir's, and for a minute, they both forgot everything. It was like as if there wasn't any issue between them and all was fine, just Kabir and Anaisha were there.
But soon Anaisha came back to the real world, and gave Kabir a cold glare before moving away. She didn't want to face him! With the other guests, she busied herself in talking with them, ignoring Kabir completely.
Her ignorance didn't go unnoticed by Kabir, who settled on one of the couches kept far away from the entire crowd. He was hurt by her behaviour. It pierced his heart, when the girl who always had warmth and care in her eyes for him, gave him such a cold shoulder.
Does she hate me so much now that she can't even stand beside him for a minute? But she wasn't to blame for this, it was him who had first distanced himself from her. Yet, it anguished him. A part of him wanted to chide him for so foolishly distancing himself from Anaisha, knowing well how severely she was getting hurt with his indifference.
But he couldn't do so, as Nikhil joined him, with the sole intention to increase the burning angst of Kabir to such an extent that he become forced to change his mind.
"Don't you think, Sir, Annie is looking really gorgeous today? This dress really suits her and its colour just enhances her beauty. She's really beautiful and gorgeous. And what a coincidence that both of us are colour coordinated today! I wish I get a chance to date someone as beautiful as her. You know she's quite hard to resist!" remarked Nikhil lovingly, much to Kabir's chagrin.
The look on Kabir's face went from stoic to despise with Nikhil's praises for Anaisha. But he decided against giving Nikhil an earful, simply because he wasn't worth the time and his precious words! Passing Nikhil only a glare, Kabir got up and left from there.
Once he left, Nikhil smirked and passed Rhea and Zaina a thumbs up, both the ladies who had assigned him for this task.
When everyone was done with Haldi, dholis were brought in and eveyone started dancing to the tunes of dhol. Anaisha too went and joined her brothers. With her family, she completely forgot about her issues and Kabir. She wholeheartedly enjoyed this moments with her family, and even pulled her batchmates on the dance floor. Nikhil, who was shying away, was dragged by Anaisha, which Kabir witnessed, much disappointed.
But in the next moment, he, himself was pushed by someone toward the dance floor. This made him collide with Anaisha who about to fall down due to the collision. But, Kabir held her by her waist before she could fall down.
Kabir looked at her with the same kind eyes, full of love for her, but then changed the direction of his gaze. Not really wanting any unwanted attention from anyone. Why does it have to be so hard?
Even for Anaisha it was complicating and confusing. She did notice the warmth in his eyes, with an unknown emotion. But before she could figure it out, his eyes turned blank again. He let go of her, and left from there, out of the venue.
Why is he behaving like this? Anaisha wondered, but couldn't ponder as her cousins dragged her back to the dance floor.
Oblivious to these two, the culprits, Zaina and Rhea giggled watching Kabir smugly glance at Nikhil, poor who didn't even know why he was being given such a look. Kabir's GM and Aarush just exchanged sly grins, happy with the progress.
The Haldi function went well. Next was the turn of Mehendi. All the ladies applied Mehendi (Henna) on their hands and enjoyed the service by their husbands and boyfriends, who were making sure that their Mehendi didn't get ruined.
With both her hands covered with henna, Anaisha felt thirsty but helpless too. She gazed around for any of her family member, but no one was in sight.
She looked here and there and saw Kabir, who was coming toward her with a glass of water. She turned her back toward him.
"Anaisha, here take this water," said Kabir politely, holding the glass in front of her. Having been informed by Rhea that Anaisha was wanting water, he had halfheartedly agreed to face her again because Rhea, herself had her hands covered by henna and wanted her brother to help satiate Anaisha's thirst.
Anaisha heard his voice and turned to see him indeed holding a glass of water. She bit her lips, her throat completely dry. But her ego didn't allow her to take Kabir's help.
"No thanks, Dr. Thapar, I'll manage by myself." she coldly replied, starting to walk away.
"At least you can drink this water. I know we have issues but please accept my help," said Kabir, concealing his dismay at her use of his surname instead of first name.
She stopped in her tracks and contemplated for a moment on whether to take his help or not. Thirsty that she was, she decided to take his help.
"Fine! But you have to make me drink it. This henna on my hands is still moist," said Anaisha coolly, showing her hands to him.
He helped her drink water and watched her join back the other ladies of her family, still holding the glass of water. Happy on helping her even this little, he shyly smiled to himself.
Do people behave like this when they are in love?
The second wedding function soon ended, the next evening Sangeet ceremony took place in one of the two reserved hotels, with Bollywood as the theme. Anaisha and Aarush portrayed Aarav and Lehar, and depicted their love story through various Bollywood songs. Their performance was appreciated by all the family members and guests.
Kabir smiled a contended smile when Anaisha danced on the same song that she had performed with him on Aarav's wedding. It reminded him of their happy good old time.
His smile was noticed by Anaisha, whose heart fluttered. But it made her puzzled as well. True, Kabir's presence around her, did trouble her. But, she somewhere felt elated whenever he was near her.
"Annie, did you notice how Kabir was smiling when you were dancing? He looks so cute!" commented Zaina, her tone partly of fake awe and partly sly.
"Cute and Kabir? What happened to you, Zaina? Did you forgot that you have a boyfriend? How can you praise Kabir like that?" asked Anaisha, her dismay quite obvious.
Zaina suppressed her smile and nonchalantly said, "Of course, I have a boyfriend but that doesn't mean that I can't praise other guys. You're behaving as if you're Kabir's girlfriend."
Anaisha's eyes popped out with Zaina's remark. She quickly covered up, "No! I mean I just meant that you're my brother's girlfriend so ... leave it! Nothing!"
"Whatever," said Zaina, before leaving the room and a puzzled Anaisha, who couldn't understand her own behaviour. Do I really act like Kabir's girlfriend? she asked herself, with no chances of getting the answer.
On the other hand, GM played her part very well, with much ease and Rhea's supporting act.
"Anaisha's such a good perfomer, Bir. So effortless in her moves! Just perfect! Like her name means, this girl is really special."
"Yes, Bhai, she's so good in everything she does." added Rhea, winking at GM, as they moved toward their suites.
These compliments from two important ladies of his life, seemed to only made him feel prouder of his love, who technically wasn't even his girlfriend. But anyway, it didn't matter much to him, atleast he'd have some really good memories of her.
With the end of all the traditional functions and rituals, it was time for the Bachelor's and Bachelorette's parties. The younger lot was quite looking forward to these two parties, after all, some thing like this is surely a break from all those long, sometimes boring, traditional rituals.
The parties were organised in the same hotel where the guests were staying. The elders had decided against attending the parties, giving the youngsters freedom to enjoy the night without any hesitation and supervision, for which the younger lot was quite ecstatic with this.
The girls and guys were all dressed and the parties kick started soon. The lavish way the parties were organised, it didn't seem by any means that majority people there were doctors, all of who were letting their hair down for this once.
But Dr. Kabir Thapar was far from enjoying this party. The usual brooding doctor, chose to settled himself at the bar, but didn't gulp down any drink. Rather, he continued to play with his first drink, and a cigarette between fingers. Being someone, who didn't like to party, Kabir preferred to be a silent spectator, watching people dance like there's no tomorrow. He wasn't rejoiced, even when it was his best friend's Bachelor's party. Certainly, because right after Aarav's wedding, he'd be preparing to leave for Sydney with his GM. That seemed a nice way to stay away from Anaisha, atleast that's what his cynical self believed.
Not others, though. His best friend Aarav and Aarav's younger brother Aarush, both of who were observing Kabir since the time the party began, shook their heads. The plan they had fetched to make Kabir confess his feelings, hadn't worked much by any chance in their favour. Although, it did work for Anaisha, who certainly showed some signs in acceptance of her feelings for Kabir. The way she had acted when Zaina praised Kabir, it pretty much confirmed her possessive for him. And the fact, that even while dancing her eyes would find their way to him, said volumes.
Yet, no one knew what control Kabir had on himself. The unusual self control Kabir was exercising on himself, annoyed all the people who were trying to make him confess his feelings. Even at one point his GM was so badly irked that she wanted to give him a piece of her mind. But thanks to Nikhil, Rhea prevented this from happening. Training a lion seemed easier than making Kabir confess his feelings, but none of these guys were going to give till the last moment.
"I have an idea, Bhai. Let's merge both parties, it'll help push Kabir to the extent of confessing his love," suggested Aarush, sounding as enthusiastic as he did when his mother asked him about stenciling his name on his father's car at the age of nine.
"Do you think it would work? I don't even know what sort of self restriction Kabir has on himself. Am I even his best friend? He makes me doubt that now," confessed Aarav, confused.
"Even I doubt that you and Annie are my siblings or not, both dimwits in this heart matter," mumbled Aarush in an inaudible tone, but Aarav did hear it.
"Say that again and have your teeth broken!" threatened Aarav, glaring at Aarush.
Aarush laughed with a straight face, but Aarav continued to glare at him. Sighingly, he said, "Let me message Zaina, and tell her to convey to others that both the parties are being merged."
Aarush nodded, and Aarav fished his phone out to message Zaina. While he typed, Aarush very innocently said, "Bhai, waise, you'd be the first brother in the history to sacrifice his last night of freedom. That's such a big sacrifice!"
"Oye, it's not really a sacrifice," said Aarav, looking up from his phone. "Leher has already asked her dedicated spies, Nihal and Advay, to keep an eye on me, and make sure I don't have much fun here. She even made her friends arrange her Bachelorette's party in the same hotel. Now tell me what's the big deal in merging the parties? Anyway at least I can enjoy a dance with Leher before she becomes my wife." Aarav's tone slightly poignant.
"Leher Bhabhi's smarter than I give her credit for," muttered Aarush under his breath, which Aarav didn't hear, but did raise his eyebrows as in asking what Aarush spoke.
"Nothing. Let's inform everyone that parties are being merged." Aarush successfully distracted Aarav, and both the brothers went to make this announcement.
Even after they made this announcement, Kabir was least bothered, much to their dismay. Atleast, that's what he showed, or was trying hard to show. His self control was slowing loosening, and this irritated him, or actually scared him. What would happen if he confessed his love to Anaisha? He didn't wish to imagine the consequences of it.
Continuing to play with his drink and the half burnt cigarette, he was unaffected by all the new female entrants of the party. He didn't even wish to be here, but because of Aarav, he was. This was the least Kabir was doing for Aarav, apart from being his melancholic self.
"C'mon, yaar, Kabir, how long will you sit here? It's a Bachelor's plus Bachelorette's party. There are so many pretty girls around. Why don't you find a girl for yourself? Or are you still firm on being forever single?" said Anuj, sipping his drink.
"Yeah, you can say so. Atleast, I won't have to bid a girl bye after two weeks of dating ... like you." said Kabir, sarcasm quite heavy in his words.
"You and your sarcasm," said Anuj, grimacing.
Kabir just rolled his eyes and took a drag of his cigarette, which was almost extinguishing. But it almost fell down from his hand, as his eyes caught the sight of the most beautiful of this night ... Anaisha.
Dressed in royal blue strapless dress, with her wavy brownish black hair pinned with only a single bobby pin on one side her face, she looked every bit breathtaking. The few strands of hair that were falling on her face, knocked the breath out of the Kabir. And for few seconds, he didn't even bother breathing, the view in front of him was enough mesmerising and spellbinding. The world disappeared for Kabir, and maybe for Anaisha, too.
The first thing that Anaisha's eyes had fell on after entering the party hall, was Kabir, with two things that Anaisha disliked the most, cigarette and drink. But the feeling of anger couldn't stay for long, because the checkered navy blue formal suit that Kabir had worn, only enhanced the enigma of Kabir, who already looked dapper and made her knees go weak. To add on that, the small, faint smile that adored his lips, caused the butterflies in her stomach to somersaults.
"My brother looks damn handsome in his well tailored formals, haina? And plus the white shirt, he's sure one of the best dressed men here," said Rhea smilingly, breaking the trance of Anaisha.
"Well, I agree with you, Rhea. In our college, he was quite sought after and extremely popular amongst girls, not that he really paid any attention to anyone," said Shaina slyly. "I guess, he still have that effect on girls. Not bad, huh, Anaisha?"
A small blush crept on Anaisha cheeks, but she didn't wish for others to see that. She, herself didn't know why Shaina's remark made her blush.
"Maybe, I don't know." she tried to cover up, but it was vain.
"Oh okay," Shaina shrugged her shoulders. She, along with Rhea, left to join Zaina and Leher, both of who had heard the exchange between Shaina and Anaisha. They all passed each other's smiles, Anaisha seemed almost on the verge of acceptance of her feelings.
"Hey, Annie, let's go and dance." said Shivam cheerfully, pulling Anaisha by her hand. Nikhil was behind him.
"Yeah, s-sure," stuttered Anaisha, her eyes now on Kabir's fuming face, reason behind which she didn't understand. Whatever the cause was, it seemed unsettling to her and disturbed her, he looked better with a smile.
"Where are you lost?" asked Aarush, knowing well his sister's attention was on Kabir.
"Nowhere," answered Anaisha vaguely, her eyes on Kabir, who huffily gulped down the drink he was playing with since the beginning of the party. What's bothering him, now?
Anaisha was obviously oblivious to Kabir's inner turmoil, or as a matter of fact, his envy and dismal with Nikhil's close presence around her. Why does she has to be so friendly with him? He couldn't understand that.
"One more drink, and give me a lighter!" he told the bartender, or more like an order. His anger was blinding him now. Why wouldn't it, after all, just few moments back he was amusingly gazing at a red-cheeked Anaisha. But because of Nikhil and Shivam, two of the most hated people in his life, his moment was ruined. And all he could do was gulp down the drink, which only burnt his throat, yet he wasn't bothered.
"How long are you gonna take to make a drink?" he irritably asked, the people around him slightly astounded to find Kabir in such foul mood and that too over a drink. Almost everyone knew, Kabir wasn't the guy who ever drink much nor smoked casually, but today the situation was different and others were unaware of it.
"Here, Sir, your drink," said the bartender, passing forward the glass of drink.
He held the glass in his hand, staring at Anaisha. Her eyes were still on him, and the new litted cigarette in his other hand. Something on her face, told Kabir to throw away the drink and the cigarette. But the next moment, rage overtook.
Nikhil, who had been observing Kabir, was signaled by Leher and Shaina to do something that would increase Kabir's fury. He did act upon it and pulled Anaisha toward himself, surprising her and himself as well.
"What's wrong, Nikhil? Why did you pull me like this?" asked a vexed Anaisha.
"There were some glass pieces on the floor, that's why I pulled you aside," said Nikhil, partly speaking the truth and partly playing his part.
"Oh okay," said Anaisha, before turning to look in the direction of Kabir. Her heart broke, his face only was showing his despise for her. Tears were brimming in her eyes now, and the realisation dawned on her, as well. Kabir wasn't just a friend, he was something more to her, that's why he affected her. She was done denying her feelings for him!
His presence mattered to her, it could make her feel better. His one single smile had the power to uplift her mood. His words could make her feel better in no time. His laugh could make her forget the world around herself. His eyes enchanted her, every time he stared at her. Infact, his every being mesmerised her, making her fall in love with him, unknowingly but eventually. She did was smitten by him!
But now, she had enough of his ignorance! Everything that happened in last few days made perfect sense to her, and she could make out why was he ignoring her. He loved her, as well. Yet avoided her, for God knows what reason! But that's it, she'd make him tell her that now! At any cost!
"What the hell? Can't you see and walk?" grunted Anaisha, looking at the drunk guy who spilled his drink on her dress.
"Oh, I'm sorry," apologised the guy, wobbling on the spot.
"It's fine. Be careful now," said Nikhil, before Anaisha could blast at the guy. "C'mon, Annie, wash that beer off your dress, or else it'll become a stain."
"Okay," said Anaisha reluctantly. It seemed better to wash the stain off and put on her fruity perfume, rather than confronting Kabir while smelling like a bar.
She walked out of the party hall, and went toward the washroom. Nikhil stood out, waiting for her. Inside the washroom, Anaisha washed the beer, but that only made her dress look uglier. But she had no time to change her dress now. So, instead, she applied her fruity smelling perfume.
"All you have to do is go upto Kabir and tell him that you love him, and that you also know that he reciprocates your feelings. It's easy, don't freak out! You can do that!" Anaisha repeated to herself, before walking out of the washroom.
Where did Anaisha go? Kabir wondered to himself. Although, he had told himself countless times that Anaisha wasn't his, the sight of Anaisha being in close proximity with another guy, haunted his heart. This made him infuriated, not only with the guy who pulled her, but also with Anaisha, which made him turn his back to her. Vexed, he gulped down the second drink in one go, his throat burning again. He took a drag of smoke as well, his fury was on the seventh could now. And there wasn't no one to blame, except for his own self.
He took another drag, when his phone buzzed. His HOD was calling, but the signal was weak here. So, he went out. But the loud sound of the party music, wasn't helping. With no other choice, he went toward the parking lot to attend the call.
Beside a parked car, he stood, explaining a case of his that his interns were monitoring in his absence, and how discharging the patient wasn't advised by him. The HOD seemed to agree with his point, and the call ended.
Kabir turned to leave for the party, though he wasn't really in mood to go inside. But, just as he turned, his saw a young couple standing in the alleyway toward the parking lot from the hotel. They seemed familiar even in the dimly lighted alleyway, and with thunderstorm, Kabir recognised them.
Nikhil and Anaisha, here?
He couldn't comprehend. But, it wasn't his business, so he decided to leave. It was impossible for him, though. And he stayed behind. But seconds later, it seemed a mistake to him!
From where he was standing, anyone would assume Anaisha and Nikhil to be making out with each other. Although, Anaisha's back was to him, he had recognised her dress. Nikhil's hands were on her face, while Anaisha's were on her side. And it was normal, too, since Nikhil was blowing air in Anaisha's eyes, and nothing else. But, Kabir was taking it all in a very different context.
A million question were flooding his head. He wanted to ask her so many things; was she with Nikhil now, was she kissing him with her will, or Nikhil forced himself in her without her consent. Most of all, he wanted to know the answer to one question ... how could she live so peacefully, when he was in chaos, and his life, a mayhem?
"Thanks, Nikhil. I feel much better now," said Anaisha, wiping her face with her handkerchief. Something was bugging in her right eyes, when they were returning back to the party. Since the hotel corridors were packed with all the guests and hotel people, they had walked out to this alleyway.
"You're welcome, Annie," said Nikhil, smiling.
"Excuse me, Nikhil?"
Anaisha and Nikhil heard Kabir's voice, and finally noticed him. With bloodshot eyes, and the furious creases on his forehead, Kabir looked no less scary.
"Sir," said Nikhil, seeing the frightened look on Anaisha's face, "Why don't we go inside and talk? It seems like the rain is about to start. Let's go, Anaisha."
"Why don't you go inside, Nikhil, and leave Anaisha here with me? I have to have an important conversation with her, urgently." said Kabir, his voice sounding menacing.
A little startled, Anaisha knew, this wasn't the right situation to talk to Kabir, even if she desperately wanted to talk to him. But, Nikhil didn't seem to think the same.
The look on Kabir's face, pretty much cleared to Nikhil that this maybe was the moment they all were waiting for. And moreover, the deadly glare that Kabir was passing to him, Nikhil knew it wasn't right to dig his own grave up.
"Yeah sure, Sir. I, anyway, have to catch up Yuvraj. You guys talk," said Nikhil meekly, before strutting inside, without turning back even once, just in case Kabir latched with him like a ghost.
His departure, only left Kabir and Anaisha alone in the alleyway, which didn't make Anaisha any rejoiced. She wasn't embarrassed to admit, Kabir was frightening her now. Having never seen him this exasperated, with only heartbreak and rejection in his eyes and face. It wasn't the right time to confess her feelings to him, she knew.
"I don't want to talk to you, now. Please leave me alone!" said Anaisha plainly, walking toward the entrance of the hotel.
But Kabir blocked her way, intimidating her for a moment. They stood there, neither speaking anything, but feeling only suffocated in this silence.
"Fine!" said Anaisha, walking toward the parking lot. But she hardly had walked a few steps, when Kabir pulled her toward him. Twisting her arm behind her back, he started speaking or rather accusing her.
"This is why you were with Nikhil all the time! Just to show me that you can get any guy to like you? Because I rejected you, you devoted yourself in getting sympathy from Nikhil? Are you this type of girl? Just trying to get attention from guys, and then leave them in chaos? Or wait, do you really like that lowlife Nikhil? SPEAK UP YOU DAMN GIRL!" shouted Kabir, making no logic. It was the buildup of emotions in him, which was finally bursting out.
But, his accusations left Anaisha baffled and ashamed. From no angle, he looked or was behaving like the suave and sophisticated doctor she had known for last some months. Having never confronted this Kabir, Anaisha became blank, not knowing how to respond to him.
"H-How d-dare y-you, Dr. Kabir?" said Anaisha, after getting her voice back. "HOW CAN YOU EVEN SAY SUCH THINGS ABOUT ME? WHO ARE YOU TO JUDGE ME? YOU ARE NOT EVEN MY FRIEND, LET ALONE CLOSE FRIEND. STILL, YOU HAVE THE AUDACITY TO QUESTION ME? HOW CAN YOU EVEN THINK SO LOW ABOUT ME? YOU ASKED ME NA IF I LIKE NIKHIL? THEN YES I DO LIKE HIM BECAUSE UNLIKE YOU, HE DOESN'T HAVE SUCH A CHEAP MIND AND DEGRADED IMAGE OF ME. MAYBE YOU KNOW QUITE ENOUGH LOWLIFES!"
"Oh yeah, a girl as good as you would stand in a parking lot and kiss her so-called boyfriend, right? SUCH A NICE GIRL! MY FOOT!" yelled Kabir, the alcohol in him dominating his senses. "TILL LAST COUPLE MONTHS BACK, I WAS THE ONE YOU WERE BUSY HOVERING AROUND. NEVER EVEN ASKING ME IF I LIKED YOUR COMPANY OR NOT! JUST KEPT BUGGING ME ALL THE TIME WITH YOUR NONSENSICAL PROBLEMS! BUT ONCE I STOPPED BEING YOUR NANNY, YOU'RE ASKING ME HOW I HAVE THE AUDACITY TO ACCUSE YOU? AND BY THE WAY, YOU'RE THE FIRST AND THE ONLY LOWLIFE I EVER CAME ACROSS! AND I BITTERLY REGRET THAT!"
The long subdued emotions, along with two pegs of drink and cigarettes, made Kabir throw such venomous words at Anaisha, not realising how badly they were impacting her, or how badly her heart was breaking. His words, left her stunned and transfixed at the spot. The guy she loved, was accusing her, calling her a lowlife, for only because he misinterpreted and assumed her and Nikhil's friendship to be a relationship, she opted for to only make him jealous. Who was this Kabir?
"Y-You are not the same K-Kabir who c-consoled me after m-my b-break d-down a-after m-my f-first s-surgery or ... t-the o-one who u-used to l-listen to my p-problems a-and ... then s-solve them. You are s-someone else. And I hate you. I REALLY HATE YOU DR. KABIR THAPAR!" cried Anaisha, her voice, defeated.
The clouds rumbled, showing their dismay on seeing such a lovely girl cry so bitterly. The sound of her fervent sobs, were the only ones making any noise in the quiet parking lot, apart from the clouds.
Her face, which now only reflected the humiliation and hurt, that Kabir inflicted upon her, was nothing like Kabir was used to seeing. His heart cried along with her, slowly, realising what all he had spoken to her, with such acerbity and disgust. In his rage, he hadn't had realised what all he was speaking, and made the girl, he least wanted to make cry.
But he was helpless, scared and apologetic, after what he had accused of her. He had no words to speak in compensation. Not after seeing that it was the first time, Anaisha's head wasn't held high on her shoulders, it was hung low, because of him and his foolishness. Why do I have to hurt her all the time?
"Anaisha, look at me,please! I'm really sorry I didn't mean a single word I said to you. It was my anger and frustration which were speaking. Look at me please! I'm sorry! I'm really ashamed of my behaviour! Please look at me! Please!" he cried, abashed.
He even let go of her hand, which he still was holding. It had turned red, because of Kabir's tight hold, adding to only Kabir's guilt. Never in his life, had ever been this disrespectful toward anyone, let alone a girl. But his suppressed emotions, along with alcohol, only created havoc in him and led to this outburst.
"I don't wish to talk to you now, Dr. Thapar. T-There's n-nothing left to talk," said Anaisha, dignified. With this, she turned on her heels, ready to go back inside the hotel.
"Please don't! Don't hang me here like this! Please, Anaisha. I'm very abashed for being so demeaning to you. I didn't mean to, really. Please, for once let me clear this mess!" requested Kabir, sounding as if his life depended on this.
But Anaisha didn't pay heed to his words. Rather, she didn't turn back, and started walking toward inside the hotel, only to be pulled back by Kabir, ticking off her patience.
"WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM KABIR THAPAR? WHY CAN'T YOU LET ME LIVE IN PEACE? WHAT WRONG HAVE I DONE TO YOU? WHY DO YOU WANNA HANG AROUND A DUMB GIRL LIKE ME? WHY ARE YOU HURTING BOTH OF US LIKE THIS?" yelled Anaisha, agitated, tears cascading furiously down her cheeks.
Her heartache and affliction, made Kabir contrite. The dark brown eyes that always had a mischievous glint in them, now only showed chagrin and dolefulness. He really did have broke her heart, in his vain attempt of saving both of them the grief of a failed relationship.
"You aren't dumb, Anu, I am. I'm the one who's said that. I name called you all that, despite knowing how much I have have hurt you in last one month with my silence. It's all my fault. Please forgive me!" said Kabir, only remorse in his words. He again tried to cup her face, but Anaisha angrily jerked his hands off.
"Why are you saying s-sorry now? What difference will it make? Your words h-have already done the d-damage. What have I done to deserve so much h-humiliation from you? You accused me of taking s-sympathy from N-Nikhil and g-getting involved with him? You threw so many nasty things at me. How can you even have such a low opinion of me? What wrong have I done to you? T-Tell me, Dr. Kabir, please, tell me what have I done?" said Anaisha cryingly, unable to hold herself together.
Her questions met only with silence, as Kabir didn't reply, standing in absolute quietude. She wiped her tears, there was no way she would cry for him. It was enough, she reached her emotional limit.
Giving him one last look, she took a step back. He still remained silent. The feeling of rejection, engulfed Anaisha. But she knew, it wasn't in her hand if the situation had turned against them. Maybe, it was supposed to happen this way.
Her face was toward the feet, trying to collect herself together and stop her sobs. Hence, she didn't see Kabir moving toward her. Only when Kabir cupped her face, did she look up, glassy eyes and shaking with affliction.
"What? What else you want to speak now, Dr. Thapar? How much more will you insult me? Speak up, Dr. Thapar, spe... !" she only started to speak, but couldn't continue, because Kabir captured her lips in his, letting go of his promise to stay away from her.
The tears in Anaisha's eyes only had stabbed his heart, like a sharp needle which was puncturing his heart, repeatedly. He couldn't see her so miserable and crestfallen. But he knew his words won't do any cure.
His logical mind, which still wasn't ready to let go of its long fading stance, warned Kabir against doing anything reckless. But his heart wasn't in the mood to listen to his brain, and did what it felt was right, only to regret a moment later because of Anaisha's unresponsiveness!
Astonished, as she was, Anaisha couldn't contemplate at first what was happening with her or around her. The first moment, she was telling Kabir to speak out his problem, and the next moment, she found his lips against her, moving in a rhythmic manner, to which she didn't know how to respond. Yet, the pull she felt toward him, only made her lips respond on their own accord.
But, Kabir was already moving away now. So, Anaisha snacked her arms around him, stopping him from moving away from her. And it did work, as the next second Kabir wrapped his arms around her waist, allowing himself to enjoy this moment with her without any fear or grief.
Their feelings and love, took the charge of this tender moment of theirs. Neither of them remembered the fight, nor the ugly spat. Only, the togetherness mattered at the moment.
So lost in their moment of love, neither of the two noticed the pouring rain, which drenched them with its pureness and serenity. The first rain of the season! The first rain which sealed these two hearts together and binded them into one. The first rain of first love, the perfect moment for Kabir and Anaisha's fairytale love.
This beautiful moment ended few seconds later, both of them were out of breath. The ugliness of the moments prior to their first kiss, seemed to be forgotten by these two. In their eyes, only love for each other was visible, and the bliss on being together in this moment.
"I love you, Anaisha." whispered Kabir huskily, breaking his oath completely. All the reasons which had kept him from confessing his love for her, seemed inane.
"I love you too, Kabir!" said Anaisha, smiling gleefully. Although, she knew he loved her, hearing it from him seemed heavenly to her. Yet, a part of her wanted her answers from him, for ignoring her to acting like so weirdly. But it could wait!
Her reply fluttered Kabir's heart, making him smile and engulf her in an affectionate hug. She hugged him back, unaware of the excruciating turn their lives were about to take the very next moment!
