Chapter 5: Gone Wrong
Jay and Alexandria finally found another place to settle after their fight with zombies. It was a abandoned subway station. Alexandria sat down on one of the benches and took off her leather jacket while Jay was scoping out the scene to make sure it safe. She took off her jacket and noticed the scratch she got earlier turned bright red. She already knew what easy to happen.
"No....No not now! Any time but now," she said to herself.
Alexandria didn't know how to tell Jay that she was going to turn. She put her jacket back on and decided not to tell him about any of it. Jay returned to Alexandria as he was wiping blood off his face. He noticed she was examining her cut and decided to ask her about it.
"How are you holding up?" He asked.
"It's alright, nothing really" she lied.
She knew what was going to happen, but she was too scared to say. Jay noticed she was paler than usual. He put his hand on Alexandria's head and noticed she had a slight fever.
" You're getting sick, we should rest here," he reasoned.
"No, I'll be alright. We can keep going" she insisted
Both of them headed forward down the subway tunnel as Alexandria started to feel faint.
She suddenly fell to her knees about 10 minutes in to walking.
"Alex, are you sure you're okay?" Jay asked.
"Positive, just alittle tired you know?" She lied.
She didn't want Jay to know what happened. She chose to avoid any conversation about the scratch making her very ill.
The kept heading down the subway tunnel and scoped the scene for zombies. Alexandria's vision began to blur as she fell to the floor. Jay heard the fall and turned around only to see his friend knocked out on the floor.
"She should've stayed and rested..." he whispered to himself.
Jay dragged her in to the nearest subway car and set her down on one of the seats. The sleeve of her leather jacket slipped off her shoulder slightly, yet enough to show the bright red scratch from the zombie in the ally.
"....you idiot.... you should have told me..." Jay started.
4 hours later....
Alexandria woke up, her eyes gazing toward the ceiling. She gazed down to her shoulder and realized her jacket stopped concealing her wound. She quickly stood up putting her jacket back in place. Alexandria looked behind her and say Jay sitting right next to her. Her head had been resting on his lap while she was passed out, but all she cared about is if he knew.
"...I saw, Alex why didn't you tell me," he stated.
"If I was going to die, I'd rather die knowing you'd treat me as me and not someone who's going to turn. I wanted to die your friend not enemy..." she reasoned.
"You know there's one thing to do now.... I have to leave you..." Jay stuttered.
Alexandria knew she was about to lose herself, so she didn't stop him. She knew this was his decision and that she could respect his choice of leaving her. Jay began to walk out of the subway car, turned back for his last goodbye.
"I'll miss you, I really will" his voice began to shake.
"Take my equipment, you'll have more use for it that I will," she explained as she handed him her guns, knives, ammo, and food.
"I can't," he attempted to resist.
"You have to live on....for me," she whispered.
Jay kissed her and gave her a hug as he was about to leave the subway car.
"Love you..." he whispered, but she didn't hear.
Jay then left to continue his journey alone dependant on himself only....
