Spottedkit looked up, noticing a mottled brown tabby looming over her and her siblings, Willowkit and Redkit.

''This is Adderfang, your father, kits,'' Swiftbreeze, Spottedkit's mother, told her and her siblings. Willowkit and Redkit woke, also noticing our father. It had not been long since Spottedkit and her siblings opened their eyes for the first time. Adderfang. Spottedkit had remembered Swiftbreeze saying that name before.

''They're beautiful,'' Adderfang purred. Swiftbreeze smiled at her mate and then to her kits. A pale silver tom padded into the nursery and over to Adderfang and Swiftbreeze.

''How are they?'' the cat asked. Spottedkit stared at the pale silver cat, wondering who he was.

"They're fine, Featherwhisker,'' Swiftbreeze replied to the tom.

''I see they've opened their eyes already.''

''It wasn't long ago since they did.'' Redkit peered over his back. He noticed his tail was distinctively red and looked back at Featherwhisker and his parents.

''Well, if there's anything wrong with the kits please be sure to let me know,'' Featherwhisker mewed and began to pad out of the nursery.

"Who was that?" a curious Spottedkit asked her parents.

"That was Featherwhisker, the medicine cat," Swiftbreeze mewed down to her kit.

"Medicine cat?'' Spottedkit tilted her head to the side in wonder.

"A medicine cat is a cat that heals any cats that are injured or sick," Adderfang explained to Spottedkit. "Their duty is mainly to serve as a healer of the Clan. They can't be warriors, though.''

"That sounds fun!" Redkit rolled his eyes.

"Being a warrior is the best thing! You get to fight and you may even be leader!"

"There's more to being a warrior instead of battling, Redkit," Adderfang told the kit. "Oh, that reminds me. Sunstar told me that he would like to see the kits, Swiftbreeze." The mottled tom turned to face his mate.

"Well, where is Sunstar?" Swiftbreeze asked, lifting her head to Adderfang. Sunstar? Another new name for Spottedkit to remember. Sunstar.

"He's in his den, I think," Adderfang replied. Swiftbreeze looked down at her kits.

"Kits, our leader, Sunstar, would like to see you. Follow Adderfang and don't stray off, OK?'' Swiftbreeze told her three kits. The kits nodded and padded over to their father. Adderfang began to pad out of the nursery, the three kits following right behind his tail. The kits were looking around, curiously. Adderfang stopped outside a den with a lichen entrance. The kits stared at it in wonder but also nervous and a bit scared.

"Sunstar is in there.'' The kits looked up at their father. ''Don't be scared; go in.'' He beckoned the kits with his tail. The kits slowly padded inside it. A bright ginger tom was sitting inside it, his tail wrapped neatly around his paws.

"Greetings, kits. You're Swiftbreeze's second litter, right?" the tom said. All three kits nodded. "I'm sure you'll all turn out to be great, noble warriors. Anyway, what's your names?" The three kits looked at each other, wondering who would speak first.

"I'm Redkit,'' Redkit mewed to the leader, puffing his chest out proudly. He flicked his tail over to a dappled dark tortoiseshell she-kit. "That's Spottedkit-" his tail then flicked to the other she-kit, a pale grey one "-and that's Willowkit."

"Those are very nice names," Sunstar mewed. "I'm Sunstar, the Clan leader. I'm sure you've probably heard about me already." Redkit nodded. "If you think about it, it won't be long until you three are apprentices." The bright ginger leader gazed at the entrance of his den.

"But it seems like moons and moons away!" Willowkit complained to the leader.

"Don't worry; moons will pass by so quickly you'll be apprentices in no time," Sunstar told the three kits.

"Really? Well, I guess we can wait, then." It was Redkit who had spoken.

"Yes. Trust me, you'll be apprentices in no time," Sunstar meowed.

"And I'll be the best warrior ThunderClan has ever seen! Just you wait until I become one!'' Redkit said excitedly and began bouncing on the spot, full of excitement. Sunstar smiled at the bouncing kit.

"You will make a great warrior," Sunstar said. He looked at Redkit's two sisters. "And I know you two will, just like your brother.''
