A stormy night...

Thunder boomed through the sky. Lightning flashed, illuminating the woods below. Mathias had hid under a small leaf, hoping to shelter himself against the ongoing downpour. Mathias was just a small mouse, no bigger than a few inches, he carried with him a sewing needle and wore a small cap. Mathias was brown in color, with a small scar above his right eye. Mathias was used to rain but this time was different. The sky was darker and the rain was colder. Mathias felt like he was being watched, he couldn't quite pinpoint from where. Carefully, Mathias had removed the leaf that was sheltering him and now used it as a makeshift mobile cover. He quickly moved to higher ground, he had to drop the leaf so he could climb a tree. Mathias had found a small hole in the tree and had decided to shelter up as best as he could. Suddenly, there was a noise; quiet, but noticeable. Mathias drew his sewing needle and backed up against the wall of the tree, he was very alert. The noise had gotten ever so slightly louder and closer, Mathias was ready to defend himself. He had his needle in front of him, aimed towards the opening of the tree, apart from the storm, it was eerily quiet. Mathias felt tension as his back fur started to stick up, he knew something was coming. Suddenly a fast moving shadow darted from the entrance straight at Mathias, he quickly rolled out of the way and saw the shadow slam into the wall. Mathias took this as an opportunity and poked at the shadow with his needle. The creature let out a small yelp as the needle pierced through its skin. The creature then spun quickly and Mathias was thrown against the side of the tree, his little cap had fallen off. Mathias was dazed but he recovered just in time to see the creature leap towards him. Mathias jumped out of the way and pulled his needle out of the creature. Suddenly lightning flashed and the creature was finally revealed. It had been a squirrel that was attacking Mathias! Quickly, Mathias ran at the squirrel and attempted to blind it. The squirrel, unaware of Mathias's current location, didn't see the needle as it went through it's eye. The squirrel squeaked with pain and clawed wildly all around it. One of its nails had connected with the poor mouse, causing him to squeal and clench his now cut chest. The squirrel continued to squirm, only pushing the needle deeper into its head. Mathias moved away and quickly glanced around the tree hole, trying to find cobwebs. Luckily, there was a small spider nest in the corner, Mathias knew he had to get his needle back and then gather some of the web. Mathias ran at the frantically squirming squirrel, moving out of the way of the flailing claws. Mathias got to the squirrels head and attempted to pull the needle out. The squirrel grimaced with pain as Mathias pulled the needle out. The squirrel then tried getting up but fell over again due to the pain. Mathias had hidden himself in the corner with the web, attempting to gather some. The squirrel finally regained its balance and ran out of the tree. Mathias had managed to gather some web. He had a small pouch on his waist in which he carried seeds. He grabbed some of the poppy seeds that he had and ate them while applying pressure to his wound using the web. Mathias had survived this fight, he had claimed this small hole as a shelter for the night. He nestled himself up in the corner, drifting off to sleep.
