Neighbors

Me and Gabriel talked for a while, I found out he came here all the time, mostly because he knew the owner. Eventually, they had to ask us to leave because the café had closed. I looked at my watch to see it was already 9 pm.

"Crap, I gotta get back to my apartment, sorry Gabe."

"Can I at least walk you home?" He asked me.

"I guess, it's just right up the road though."

"Which way?" I pointed to the right of the café.

"Mine's that way too, let's walk together." We walked along, talking a bit more.

"That's my apartment." I pointed to the building across the street.

"Mine too."

"Really? That's cool." We walked into the building and stepped on the elevator. When we got on we both reached for the button at the same time, our hands brushing together. I pulled back,

"Sorry, apparently we're on the same floor too." He pushed the button and we went up and walked to our rooms, which were also right next to each other.

"Guess we're neighbors then." He smirked.

"Yeah," I smiled, "well see you tomorrow then?"

"Yeah." We walked inside. I got dressed and climbed under the sheets, Gabriel on my mind still. I hoped I really would see him again tomorrow, I needed someone who could help me get around, and maybe know some more people.

The next morning I woke up and got ready for class. Classes were boring as always, but I tried to pay attention. For some reason, my mind kept slipping to Gabe. When would I see him again, would he even want to see me, stuff like that. I was relieved when class was finally over, and headed to the café, to do my homework, and hopefully see Gabe again.

I walked in the café, which was busier than it was yesterday, but the seat I had sat in was free, so I sat there again.

People kept coming in, and every time the bell rang I'd look up, hoping to see Gabe. I sat there for a while, my homework finished already, and lots of the people cleared out. As I was about to give up and go home, the bell rang, and in walked Gabriel.

He looked to be in a bad mood, but when he saw me he looked a little happier.

"Hey Samsquatch." He said as he walked over, and sat at my table.

"What?" He laughed, but didn't answer me.

"How was your day?"

"Fine, I guess a bit boring. What about yours? You looked like you were in a bad mood when you came in." I asked.

"Just not the best day ever, I'll get over it."

"Well what happened?"

"I'd rather not talk about it. What about you? What'd you do today?" He looked at me.

"Nothing really, school, came here to do homework. I was hoping to see you."

"Aw, that's nice, you wanted to see me." He mocked.

"Yeah, well I need to know someone around here."

"Well, I've been here forever, I can show you around, introduce you to some of the people I know."

For the next week or so, me and Gabe met up at the café every day. We talked about different stuff, I found out that he always wanted to own a candy store, I told him I was going to school to be a lawyer. He showed me a few different places around that I could shop at, and a few restaurants that he thought were good. We became great friends.
