🌻Mistletoe Madness Pt 1/4🌻
🌻Before You Read🌻
🌻This story is one that I've been working hard on a week before Christmas, hoping I'd release it by then. That...didn't work, BUT! It'll still be fun to read.
🌻As always, this story isn't canon to any of my stories. If we're talking crossovers, this would've taken place after the Winter Crossover Shelby wrote, but just before the Lovestruck crossovers (yes, plural, as I'll be releasing my own spin come February)
🌻To those who don't know, 4 degrees Celsius is about 40 degrees Fahrenheit, and yes, I did do some research on Japan for weather accuracy, so hopefully, this lines up.
🌻Enjoy
🌻A Matchmaker's Plan🌻
Dark clouds hovered above us as a couple of friends and I walked out of U.A. My hands rubbed together as fast as they could, creating as much friction as I could before covering my mouth to blow warm air into them. As much as I loved living in Musutafu, winter was never the best, but at least it never snowed. We were lucky to even get a dusting of snow, and even so, it'd be a month or two away when that happens.
If that happened.
Still, just because we didn't get snow didn't mean I enjoyed this time of year. The cold air ear nipped my ears and every inch of exposed skin I had. All of this could easily have been solved by wearing some mittens or some earmuffs, but it was so nice this morning to even fathom that thought. Why the weather decided to unexpectedly drop to four degrees celsius was beyond me.
"Here, you need a scarf?" a voice asked.
I turned my head, wishing it was directed towards me, but it wasn't. Walking beside me was none other than Kita Yukimura and Mori. One would think having an animal Quirk would make both of them not bothered by the sudden cold, but that wasn't the case. Kita Yukimura's Quirk was the only one of us three who was protected by this frigid cold. Our friend, Mori, on the other hand, had a Quirk called Bat, and bats don't do well in the cold. It was why they are only seen in the summertime as they hibernate in the winter, or maybe they migrate to warmer places. Honestly, I can't remember which one it was, but I know my moms have told me about it before at some point.
Mori didn't have that luxury of hibernating as he was a person, not a bat. Like me, the poor guy wasn't prepared for the cold air, causing him to stick his hands in the pockets of his pants His wings pressed against his body in attempts to be warm, but sadly, it was not enough as they quivered with each step he took.
Seeing that Kita was the only one prepared made me wonder if she knew this was going to happen, or if she was just lucky. Mori gladly took her pink scarf and wrapped it around his neck and covered his mouth with it as well.
"Thanks, Kita, you're a lifesaver," he claimed as the two started walking a bit closer.
What happened next broke my heart, and before I say why, I need to explain that it wasn't breaking for me. It was breaking for Mori. See, Kita Yukimura didn't see something that was blatantly obvious, and that was the fact that Mori had a huge crush on her. I mean, how could she not see it! Anytime our classes were combined, I could see him staring at her or cheering for her extra loudly.
So, seeing that she wrapped an arm around him to keep him warm made it seem like she, too, liked Mori, toying with his heart. There was nothing I hated more than a girl unknowingly doing that. She could ask him to do anything, and he'd do it in a heartbeat. While he would think he's getting closer to her, she would just see it as being a good friend.
It killed me inside watching it happen.
"So, Kita, are you doing anything this weekend?" Mori asked. "I saw that there was a new movie coming out to theaters. Maybe we could see it together."
It was too painful to watch that I slowed down my pace, giving the two a bit of privacy. Not that it was hard. Both Kita and Mori were giants compared to most students in U.A. Besides, I could hardly keep up with my short legs.
"Oh, I'm so sorry," I overheard Kita say. "Hikaru just invited me to go visit Shirakawa-go for the weekend. Maybe we could see it another night?"
Mori froze at her words, forcing them into a halt. There was nothing I could do but continue walking, so I carefully maneuvered around them, trying to see if there was anyone else around I could walk beside.
"Or maybe Misaki and Sakura would go with you," Kita suggested, causing me to tense up. I should have known she knew I was trailing behind, but still. How could she not get the hint that Mori wanted to spend time with her, not me?
At least I had a solid excuse as I twirled around, pushing my hands into the pockets of my blazer. "As much as I'd love to go and see it, I'm going home for the weekend. My parents need help in their flower shop, especially with the holidays just around the corner."
I didn't dare look at Mori's face when I said that, mainly because he already knew. Besides, it was just Kita who suggested it. Looking into her gold eyes, I realized she had no idea of Mori's true intentions, not when she didn't seem too bothered or anything by it. She just kept her arm around Mori, offering a small smile.
"I hope you have fun visiting your family," Kita said before looking at Mori. "Maybe once we get back, we can go see it."
"Yeah," Mori said with a small smile, but his tone of voice suggested anything but happiness. I froze in my spot as I watched the two walking inside the 1-A dormitories.
Only, when I froze to watch them disappear in those doors, it wasn't because of the frigid cold that filled the air around me. That no longer bothered me, and honestly, I didn't feel my body shivering like it was before. Instead, I just stood there, unable to move, as I felt helpless for once.
How could Kita be so dense not even see that Mori had a major crush on her? He didn't want to spend time with anyone else. Mori always tried to make time for her more than anyone in our friend group.
What would happen if she knew how he felt about her? Would she give Mori a chance or would she just keep moving on as always?
I shook the thoughts out of my head as I turned to head back to the 1-B dormitories. There was nothing I could really do to help my friends, not when it was too cold outside to even think.

"Hello, earth to Sakura," a lower voice snapped me back to reality.
I shook my head, trying to push the thoughts of what happened the other week with Kita and Mori. It was just hard when he always made the effort, and Kita didn't get the hint. Honestly, Mori deserved so much, especially with how much he was willing to help others. Even now, as I looked around my surroundings, I saw him in the corner of the gymnasium, talking to the person adjusting his hero costume, encouraging them with whatever was needed.
Not everyone was like that in the Hero Department. Then again, not everyone got along with their partner from the Support Department. Take my two friends, Raiden and Kaito, for example. Watching them interact, I wondered why they didn't just switch their Support partners with one another as it would make so much more sense.
Raiden was partnered with some dirty blond haired boy who was an exact carbon copy of Kaito. I could tell that it took everything inside of Raiden not to punch him in the face, and someday, that just might happen. This kid just kept talking an ear off my friend, making faces that may have suggested that he was giving Raiden a hard time on love or something. While it was common knowledge to everyone, my friend hated admitting that he even had a crush. Why he would joke or even flirt with him while fixing his suit was just asking for trouble.
While Raiden could at least hold himself together, Kaito's partner didn't. He was paired up with some girl with dark hair that was pulled back in a scarf. First off, I felt bad for anyone that would work with this guy. His costume was a walking disaster as he looked brighter than the sun in it. But even more so, his partner wasn't the type to mess around like Kaito. Whenever he tried cracking a joke or tried teasing her, she'd just take her hand and slap him across the face.
Seeing Kaito holding his face in silence only told me he must've really pissed her off.
Before I could glance at any more of my friends, I felt something slam against the back of my head.
"Hey!" I protested as I turned around to see my Support partner, Dani, standing there with a sketchbook in his hands as he crossed his arms. "What the hell was that for?"
"I don't know, maybe it's for the fact that you didn't listen to me," Dani sassed back before using the sketchbook in his hands to motion up and down at my outfit. "How does it feel with the adjustments?"
I glanced down, noticing what the dark-haired guy was talking about. To say I wasn't thinking when I first designed my costume would be an understatement. My Quirk didn't just work with my elbows; I could use my knees as well. I just never thought of that because I was used to sprouting vines out of my elbows whenever I fought.
The first time I tore my costume because I worked on an Ultimate Move that made my vines sprout from my knees, Dani was livid.
Something still felt off about it, but it was at least better than before. The skin tight suit I was in no longer stretched to my legs. Dani cut it off just above my knees. He also trimmed my coat and hemmed it, so it was the same length.
"What do you think of a total redesign?" I ask. "This will definitely work for now, but I'm thinking something a bit...flashier. Something that would make me stand out even more"
Mummified-looking wraps may have covered the bottom half of Dani's face, but the glint in his eyes suggested that there was probably a slight smile on his face. "Now that I can get behind," he agreed before flipping his sketchbook open. His orange eyes were glued onto the page as the tip of his pencil started to page.
If he thought my costume needed a total makeover, I would have thought he would've said something before. After all, he didn't hold back when slapping me in the back of the head with his sketchbook just now, nor did he hold back in critiquing other people's costumes whenever we would look around at others. My only guess was that he didn't hate the adjustments that he made, but like me, knew it could have been better.
Dani rambled on and on about how he had a few ideas, and how each one would help with my Quirk problem. I trusted him enough that I just took a seat on the gymnasium floor beside him. He must've sat down when he started sketching.
My eyes drifted over towards Kita who was partnered with a girl who also had pink hair, only while Kita's was short, her Support partner's was shaved one one side and long on the other. The two seemed to work together just fine, but that wasn't why I found myself staring at them. That girl from 1-A was the one Mori had a major crush on. Even in the corner of my eye, I could see the boy staring at her for a moment before his partner gave him his leather jacket to try on. He was totally smitten over her. Honestly, I didn't blame him. The girl was one of the strongest in the class, and she was quick on her feet too.
If only she didn't have feelings for someone else, then Mori would be happy. The two were already close to one another. I was certain she could see how he felt if—
Something slammed in the back of my head once again before I could finish my own thought.
"Ow!" I complained as I rubbed the back of my head, snapping my head towards Dani once again, whose orange eyes were sending daggers right into my skull. "Seriously?"
"Obviously, since you're not paying attention, again," Dani retorted. "What has gotten into you today? You're never this spacey, especially if we're talking fashion."
I rolled my eyes, shaking my head. "Nothing against you, I'm just a bit...distracted. That's all."
"I'll say," he quipped.
As much as I wanted to throw another excuse at him, I knew it was going to be worthless. Dani was just too quick in his response that it could take all day. With only five minutes left of our class period, I was certain he wanted us to use that time wisely, so he'd know what kind of costume to make for me. My current one would work for now, but it'd be nice to have a new outfit by the time I work alongside Foxglove.
Fingers crossed, that was, as the competition was stiff just to intern for her.
"So, what do you think of Kita," I whispered, so only Dani would hear. Normally, I wouldn't mind saying things above a whisper, but that was another thing about animal Quirks. Most of them had enhanced hearing. I wasn't going to take my chances with those two.
"What do you mean?" Dani asked.
"Like dating-wise, do you think her and Mori would make a good couple?" I asked.
Dani slapped his hand over his forehead as he shook his head. His dark violet hair moved with him as he did. "It's no secret he likes her, but they're not fit for each other," he explained before scanning the room for another person. I followed his gaze, finding another boy in their class with dark hair and sharp silver eyes that looked bored as his partner adjusted a new tool belt around his waist. Dani didn't have to say more for me to realize why, but he did anyway.
"Now, Yukimura and Akiba on the other hand," he continued, "those two would be a better match. Plus their styles match too, so it's common sense there."
My lips tugged down into a frown. Was there really no hope for Mori? Surely, there had to be something?
"Can we get back to the designs right now?" my partner asked. "I'd really like to get this done before Christmas."
Christmas! That was it! I could feel the ends of my lips creeping upwards.
"That can wait," I told him. "How about we host a Christmas party instead?"
Dani's eyes narrowed down at me, almost as if he was wondering what the hell was wrong with me. Well, not even almost, he most certainly was thinking that. He wasn't wrong in thinking that.
"Let me guess, you're going to use this as a way to push Mori and Yukimura together?" He asked. "Just how do you expect to do that?"
"Easy. A little help from a thing called mistletoe. I picked some up from home when I visited last weekend. All we need to do is spread it around the room and get those two to stand under it," I explained.
Dani didn't seem convinced. "And what about you?"
I tilted my head to the side. "What do you mean, what about me?"
"Don't you like—you know what, never mind. I'll help you. If you're going to pull this thing together to actually get it to work, you're going to need some help. Luckily for you, I know just where to start," he said.
Hearing Dani being willing to help me, I couldn't help but to smile. I threw my arms around him, forcing Dani into a hug he wasn't ready for. Not that I cared.
Together, we were going to make sure Kita Yukimura started falling for Mori. We had to if we were going to give him the best Christmas ever.
