E9 • S1 - Chapter Nine
The young man visibly relaxed, a grateful smile spreading across his face. "Thank you for understanding. I'm Rudra, by the way."
"Shivani," she replied, offering a polite smile. "Nice to meet you, Rudra."
Rudra returned the smile warmly. "Nice to meet you too. I'm actually headed to the fort for some research. I've heard there are some fascinating historical artifacts there."
Shivani's interest was piqued. "Really? I'm here to explore the fort's history as well. I've read a lot about it and have been looking forward to seeing it in person."
Rudra's eyes brightened with enthusiasm. "That's wonderful! Maybe we can share what we discover. I have a few leads that might interest you."
The rikshaw driver, who had been listening, turned his head slightly. "We'll be reaching the fort soon."
As the rikshaw rumbled along the road, Shivani and Rudra engaged in a lively conversation. They shared their reasons for visiting the fort, discussing their interests and the research they were both passionate about. The initial awkwardness gave way to a comfortable rapport.
The sun was setting, casting a warm, golden light over the landscape. The fort's silhouette grew larger as they approached, its ancient walls and towers standing out against the evening sky.
"How much?" She asked the driver for the money but before she could take her purse out, Rudra already gave the money to the driver.
"Why did you pay for that?" she asked, a hint of confusion in her voice. "I noticed you paid the driver for both of us."
Rudra looked at her, a little surprised by the question but then offered a warm smile. "Oh, that. I figured it was the least I could do. I know it must have been a bit unexpected for you to have me join you like that."
Shivani raised an eyebrow. "Well, yes, it was a bit unexpected. But you didn't have to cover the fare for both of us."
Rudra shrugged slightly. "It's just a small gesture. I didn't want you to feel like you were inconvenienced by my presence. Plus, I was genuinely grateful for your understanding and for sharing the ride. It's always nice to meet someone who shares similar interests."
Shivani smiled at him as they both part their ways. As Shivani walked around the fort, she felt a feeling - like she had come here before, it all felt like whatever she was doing has already been done before, by her.
'Why am I getting a Deja Vu of this place? It appeared in my dream, but I have never visited Uttar Pradesh in my life.'
She thought, looking at the detailed architecture of the walls. As she walked through a cave like tunnel, her foot twisted and she fell on her knees hurting herself.
"Ouch!" She whimpered in pain, her hands gripped the walls as she tried to stand up when suddenly a bright green light flashed from the place where her foot was placed.
"What the-" The light blinded her vision as she covered her eyes with her hands. The light kept glowing for five whole minutes before it minimized to the level of brightness a human can tolerate.
Shivani opened her eyes and she could see the tunnel clearly now, the darkness was gone. She tried to stand up and looked at the walls, which now had some drawings - cave paintings, on it.
The painting, were telling a story which Shivani couldn't quite understand. There was a man who had blue skin, he was sitting on what felt like bed of snakes and near his feet was a woman, who wore lots of jewelries.
The next painting had the same blue skinned man, lord Vishnu whom she thought of, but he was sitting on the front of a chariot, and behind him was a guy with bow and arrow in his arms.
Lord Vishnu had the arrow pointed towards the guy, who – well not to be racist but, the guy looked like a asur.
All she could understand was the first painting, the man was Lord Vishnu and his wife, Goddess Laxmi. But she didn't understood was the second painting was about.
She clicked the photo of that painting, planning to search the story behind it later when a shadowed figure appeared next to her making her startled.
Shivani turned around to took who was standing behind her when her eyes widened, "You?!"
